    I hate to be "that guy" but it looks like you used the spike on your crimp tool rather than the oval jaws at the back of your tool to crimp an insulated terminal. The spike can be used on an uninsulated terminal opposite the split in the tube(better terminals have a solid tube without split so you don't have to worry about spike location)
    Many youtubers make the same mistake. It seems like it defies common sense. I did the same thing for a decade or so until I learned different from terminal manufacturers and crimp tool experts. The best crimp resembles the factory crimp where the terminal has open wings that are gathered by the crimp die and folded into the center of the stranded wires. It also has a secondary crimp to grip the insulation. When these factory terminals fail it's usually due to the factory worker not setting up the automated terminal machinery correctly or they are using low quality thin metal terminals that don't keep the crimp tight which allows for eventual corrosion (leading to a high resistance that heats up and melts the connection) That same factory type crimp tool can be used on bare non-insulated terminals to make an almost gas-tight crimp if you use the right size die and a high quality terminal.
    Last tip....always buy the best quality terminals from a high quality manufacturer(like 3M). They are twice or three times the cost but worth it. Stay away from the cheap chinese terminals. If you want to find the best methods, tools and materials google some marine forums on how-tos on terminal crimping.

      Well, I hate to be that guy as well. But you're an ass! This good guy is making a video to help folks out, and you want to throw your two cents into it. Why don't you do a video on your own? I'm guessing you were the kid who got his ass beat everyday in elementary school, and then ran home to mommy. Enough bro! Don't be a "Hater" on this guys work!

      @@lelandspencer2726 yeah but he is correct. Using the wrong part of the crimper literally puts a hole in the insulation. And his comment wasn't rude or condescending like yours.

    The one thing most don't explain is which wire goes where! By that I mean mine was so rusted I could not determine which was which. I knew the brown was the fan but red and yellow I did not. Watching your video you mentioned the red was common but also said it was connected to the contactor that made it possible for us to have HVAC tonight. Mine was further complicated by the fact that all the connections on the Capisator were made with 4 contacts the one I replaced had 2 3 and 4 to connect to. Also, my wires were different colors than some of the other videos showed. Your explaining that the red went to common from the contactor made it work for me. Maybe you could make a video going through it with more than a 3 wire system like mine and how to tell from where the wires come from. I had watched 4 videos before I ran across yours and none of them made it clear as they all showed nonrusted Capisators. Thank you you saved our night 09/14/2020. I am good at getting things done as long as I can see it first and go back to it as a guide.

      That’s great HANKZZZZZ!! I’m glad I could help. Sure I will do a video soon about the wires and where they go at the outdoor unit. Just FYI, if there is a spot on the capacitor that has more then one wire going to it, it is the common. The germ and fan will always just have one

    What type of (red) wire are you using (from that spool) and where can I get some? What gauge? Please

    The most important thing to tell would be, is why the wire melted in the first place

    What’s the size of the wire???

  • @SirZzz
    @SirZzz 2 года назад +2

    For a 45/5, the replacement wire gauge seems undersized, shouldn't it be 10 AWG?

      Your suppose to break the vacuum through the liquid line. So I’m your terms, open the “small”line first until you have filled the unit to manufacture specs. Then once running, charge though the suction or “big line”.

    Could a loose wire on the common terminal of the capacitor cause a breaker to trip somehow?

    • @HVACTechTips

      Yes it can. I’ve seen it before

    I hope u can help. I notice the yellow wire on the capacitor in my AC, the plastic over the connector was burned. Can I cut that part and just replace the spade connector? If not, where can I purchase the yellow wire from? Thanks for any response.

    • @HVACTechTips
      @HVACTechTips  3 года назад

      Yes you can as long as the wire is not damaged by being burnt.

    Why does this wire burn like this?

    • @HVACTechTips
      @HVACTechTips  4 года назад +1

      It burns because of a loose connection to the capacitor

    • @HVACTechTips

      Always make sure your wire connections at the cap fit tight
