  • This client we serviced for the 1st time about 2 months ago, if you recall, bought his own R410A on eBay. We are back, this time for a compressor not turning on. Upon startup you can hear the compressor briefly humming.
    To crimp the new connector on the wire I used the Klein ratcheting crimping tool. Available here:

    Great repair as always, just a small thing for next time. Those terminal connectors are designed to be crimped in one way, basically parallel to the terminal not sideways. Great job as always!

    Mike...Mike, the terminal crimpers are designer to work only in one direction, parallel to the spade terminal (preferably center pin in spade seam) center. not perpendicular. See 06:02 of video. A little tug test would be good also. :)

    Be sure to check the crimping adjustment. When I got mine, had to increase two notches to get a real good bite on the connector. Wonderful tool. I love that the ratchet allows loading the connector just right, and then introduce the wire, and crimp.

    The problem with the outdoor fan motor not coming on that one time had to do with a small molex plug. They had issues with those, usually the yellow wire in the corner of the plug. When you wiggled it around a little looking at the "alien spider nest" it probably lost connection between the two pins. I've repaired several of those by pushing the wire back in and then adding a drop of super glue into the hole of the molex so the wire can't move. Either that or just eliminating the molex plug entirely and splicing the wires together. You can usually see a small blackened or burnt spot inside the molex where the bad connection has been getting hot. 😎👍

      Interesting. I looks like the motor kicks back on the last start up before starting up in the opposite direction. That could happen if a winding had the resistance from a bad connection in series with it so it created the magnetic field late compared to the others, I'd think.

      @@jkbrown5496 those ECM style motors usually go in the opposite direction just briefly for a second before they start up in the correct direction.

  • @ryanbrady5968
    @ryanbrady5968 3 года назад

    those ratcheting crimpers are great -- the only problem i've seen is some of the connectors don't like the wide crimp that the crimper gives -- either you need to use both arms for enough force to get it to crimp, or it will squeeze the metal connector right out of the insulated/plastic "boot". guess what i'm saying is i keep both the ratcheting crimper and the narrow "traditional" crimper. same thing with the automatic wire stripper -- great except for when you dont have enough wire slack to grab on to it.

    Mikey pipes how u doin ? Lol anyway the Klein crimper when you crimp hold it ratchet handle facing down and put the connector flat the way the spade crimp is flat then crimp much easier and crimp is flat like the connector not sure if I said that clear enough but hopefully anyway keep up the good work
