  • The UK government is being urged to make a formal apology for alleged war crimes by British troops in historical Palestine nearly a century ago.
The petition, along with 300 pages of evidence, is being brought by an elderly Palestinian - a former politician - who was shot and wounded by UK forces as a boy; in a case set to reopen debate over the UK’s colonial past.
Tom Bateman's report contains some distressing details:

Yeah, don't think that's right Mr. Kim. The first proper use case of concentration camps should be attributed to the Americans as a result of the US Civil War, which killed many times more people than the camps in South Africa; however the term 'concentration camp' did arise from the Anglo-Boer war. The US also used similar camps during the American-Philippine war which occurred roughly the same few years the Second Anglo-Boer War was conducted -- however their camps were more luxurious. That said, American atrocities committed in the Philippines also resulted in many times greater casualties than British exploits in South Africa. Overall, 200,000-250,000 civilians are thought to have died during the American Philippine war, meanwhile 50,000 civilians are thought to have died during the Second Anglo-Boer war. That includes 10,000 persons that are thought to have perished in American concentration camps, and 25,000 persons that are thought to have perished in British concentration camps. Overall, 300,000 Filipinos were relocated into American concentration camps, whilst 100,000 South Africans/Boers were relocated into British concentration camps.
That means the death rate in British camps were many times higher than in most American camps, however civilian deaths overall during the American-Philippine war far exceed civilian deaths during the Second Anglo-Boer war. Anyway, said camps were meant originally to house civilians to help the military differentiate them from insurgents and protect civilians from scorched-earth policies that targeted insurgents.

Somewhere deep in the bowels of the BBC is a top secret document that could explain a great deal about the corporation's decision to boycott the aid appeal for Gaza. It is called the Balen Report and has been seen only by a small number of individuals at the very top of the BBC. They commissioned Malcolm Balen, a senior editorial adviser, to investigate allegations that the BBC's coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was biased.
Balen examined hundreds of hours of broadcast material, television and radio, and analysed the content in minute detail, often scrutinising journalists' individual phrases and choice of words. He then put his conclusions in a 20,000-word report. If BBC executives had hoped for a clean bill of health they were to be disappointed. Balen's findings, given highly restricted circulation at the end of 2004, were frightening.
Although they were kept secret, elements leaked out, including Balen's conclusion that the BBC's Middle East coverage had been biased against Israel.
The enormity of this can hardly be overstated. Apart from the corporation's legal obligation to be impartial, it had struggled for years to counter allegations that its reporting favoured the Palestinians. The claims meshed with attacks on the BBC for being Left-leaning and undermining its own legitimacy by harbouring a secret liberal agenda. Bosses at the corporation ordered Balen's report to be locked away. When an effort was made to make its findings public through Freedom of Information laws, the BBC spent £200,000 on a legal fight to keep it secret.
The timing of it could hardly have been worse. Balen's findings arrived as the BBC was trying to put the turmoil of the Hutton inquiry behind it. The corporation's chairman and director-general Greg Dyke had been forced to resign over what Lord Hutton decided was an issue of flawed reporting, although most journalists, at least, believe Lord Hutton was the one who got it wrong.

like the Copts, Jews and Yazidis who have the misfortune to live amongst you.
Arab govts tossed out 800K Arab Jews who had lived in Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Yemen for 1500+- years, and lived their BEFORE the rise of islam. They got expelled because Jews elsewhere dreamed of a state of our own. They looked like their neighbours and spoke Arabic. This was in the 1940's, LONG BEFORE THE SOI WAS FOUNDED. How dare the Jews dream?
Why don't we speak about THEIR suffering, the camps they're staying in, the generations of Jews stuck there.............Oh wait. They were not allowed to stay near their countries borders, could not do a damn thing about losing their homes, businesses, bank accounts, cars, personal wealth all STRIPPED AWAY FROM
THEM. So they emigrated and started new lives with what they had left.
Better that than to be forced to stay in DP camps because fellow Muslims dont want them around, or refuse them the chance to start again, gain citizenship and safety and build a life. No it's better to live in squalor in a DP camp, become a pawn and a professional refugee and live off UNWRA charity and be able to pass your refugee status to your children and grandchildren.

There is no time limit in the definition of colonialism therefor the British will always be considered colonialists in Australia. And the Palestinian are no exception the Arabs occupied Palestine by force in the seventh century and brought a different language, a different culture and a different genetics. The origin of Arab culture is in the Arabian Peninsula The source of the Arabic language is in the Arabian Peninsula The source of the religion of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula. On the other hand, the Jews' cultural and genetic origin and the language of the Jews were all created in Levant (Palestine). They did not come from outside, but were created in Levant (Palestine). The Hebrew language is the only Canaanite language that survived. The Jews lived in the land continuously before the Arabs before Islam and Christianity. Jews are considered indigenous by definition because the origin of the Hebrew language, The culture and religion of the Jews originated in the Levant.
True, Jews have been a minority among Muslims and Christians most of the years but the fact that they are a minority does not negate their seniority they are the oldest residents. And the fact that the Arabs are a majority does not make them natives they will always be colonialists like the British in Australia.
The palestinian try to change the defenition of colonialism so that because it happened long ago in the seventh century they became natives. There is no time limit to colonialism and they are not considered natives under the definition.!

It shouldn't be laid to rest, it matters because the tactics used by the British authorities and army from 1919 onwards are being used today by the Israeli occupation forces: curfews, restrictions of access and movement *checkpoints), house demolitions, collective punishment, imprisonment without trial, imposition of a military court system (even against children). It's not over. And Britain fails to accept its role and responsibility then and now. We have a PM who says at the recent Conservative Party Conference/CFoI event "I am a huge Zionist...I am a huge supported of Israel" and is even considering relocating the British Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, directly flouting international law. It's a disgrace that these tactics used 106 / 75 years ago are being used today and the British government only expresses "concern" (occasionally) whilst stifling peaceful resistance with its anti-BDS legislation. The Labour Party leadership has done nothing to change the situation either preferring to expel progressive Jews who argue for equal rights and justice for the Palestinians as well as peace. SO YES IT MATTERS because it's STILL RELEVANT!

It's been nearly a month since the Queen died, and although I wasn't part of the crowd who thought it was appropriate to criticize her role and involvement in the British Commonwealth, I couldn't help but notice the sizable minority condemning her. Although she was still very popular around the globe, I think a large part of the world considers her as a head of government like the US President instead of an impartial figurehead.
I'm not giving the UK government, foreign diplomats, or the Royal Family a free pass, but I would think these would be the type of "forgotten atrocities," committed by the UK/British Commonwealth that require official acknowledgement, and if possible, appropriate redress.
I just don't see how a constitutional monarchy in a liberal democracy with parliamentary supremacy is the party ultimately responsible for damages and losses committed at the direction of UK government ministers and private business profiting from imperialism.

Acknowledgment and apology is just a small part of the story.
The main mission of Britain as they occupied Palestine in 1910s was to help establish a Jewish state in Palestine. The Jews was a very small minority in 1917. They turned into a majority in 1948. How this happened in just 30 years. They allowed massive immigration of the Jews, and the same time fought any possibility of the Palestinians to resist. The story of this village is just a one of them. At the same time they supported the Zionists in every possible way. I’m 1947 and 1948, there were no chance for the Palestinians to defend their lands against the Zionist groups, which accelerated their mission to get rid of 85% of Palestinian population in one year, either by committing massacres or by expelling then out of their cities and villages. This is how the Jews became a majority in 1948 and then established their state with the help of the British.
Now what you hear from Western leaders: Israel has the right to defend itself. And any Palestinian trying to defend his stolen land is considered a terrorist.
    The history is upside down.
But generations will not forget, and it will turned around one day.
