❗️🏔 My Final Munro - The time has finally come, I have set a date for my final Munro.. it will be Sunday 8th September.. If you would like to join and support me on my final Munro then send me an email (scottishmunrojourney@hotmail.com) or find my email in the description 🏔 For those of you that cant make it, there will be a video of the day uploaded a few weeks after 😁 Cheers, James 🏔
Unfortunately I can't, I'm now going to be off the next two weeks and i return to work on that date.. What if the weather crap? As you said in this video , time to return to fair weather hiking 😂 Which Munro will be your last , you didn't say ? I would guess the cmd
Now you know what it’s like to be an English Munro bagger, hee hee! Use holiday to travel to Scotland and it’s tipping it down but it’s our only chance so we go anyway. As a result, I’ve had several memorable, foul weather experiences on Challum, including a genuine white out when the mist was thick enough to be indistinguishable from the snow. Also, crossing Lairig an Lochan when everything was ankle deep in water. But, these conditions make memorable experiences and, as you have shown, good videos. Seriously, those two Munros in those conditions - impressive. I’ll bet you remember this day when you are old and grey.
I had a similar day on Beinn Chabhair but swapped the rain for Snow. Makes for some “character” to the day. All the expensive waterproofs we buy sometimes struggle with our weather in conditions like this. Well done, your films have been superb. This “summer” has been the worst I can remember by a distance.
Character is a good word for it 😂 I suppose it makes for a memorable day! This summer has been rubbish, I have forced myself out some days.. can always redo them in good conditions I suppose 😁
This summer has been disastrous weather-wise, so well done, James, for doing these two in such horrendous conditions. The bogs have been almost impassable the last two times I've been up at Loch Tay and Beinn a Ghlo. You're almost there. Keep going!✊
Jesus, this doesn‘t look like much fun, in deed. Thank you for filming under these conditions and let us witness this real adventure. Wish you more luck for your upcoming hikes, James, especially when you will climb the Saddle and An Teallach!
Great effort. Sometimes it's really rewarding to do big hills in rough weather. Tests all you have learned so far. Remember doing Challum as part of a multi day expedition over several munros on a course. Really enjoyed your video. Don't stop doing them in tough conditions, it makes a better story. Well done
Thank you - I think you are right, this was a very memorable trip, plenty of bad weather hikes coming on the channel.. it was unavoidable with this summers weather 😂
That looked like a really challenging day in the Scottish mountains. The fog and mist must have made it tough, but you handled it well. Appreciate you sharing the experience - looking forward to seeing what’s next!
Enjoyed the video as usual James. Definitely a bit of a hike to do them both. It's a shame that the clag and rain were persistent and you didn't get any view's. Catch you on the next one.
Great hike. Thank you for sharing. Take care. Should try Norway, been raining in Aalesund since June (or at least it feels like it) Thank you for sharing 🙂
Well done for going out and climbing these 2 Munros. I would have stayed in. It is amazing what pushes you when you have a deadline for your final Munro. When I was collecting the final few I also had some grim days and long drives. Thanks for getting out for the video.
What an effort James! To this day I maintain that Ben Challum was my most miserable Munro. It was wet, boggy and I couldn’t see a thing from start to finish. I was soaked to the bone 😂 I really do enjoy your videos pal :)
What i remember about ben challum is Ben More towering over everything around , great memories of people i met and some of them doing the WHW , cheers for the vid as it shows what hillwalking in Scotland has been like all year
Ooft James, you chose 2 of the boggiest Munros on a very boggy day.. 😂 Fantastic that you enjoyed them in a mad kinda way tho. They are both stunning on cold crisp winter days when the bog is all frozen. Excuse to return tho. 👌
Hi James, your great video reminds me how much I love that weather, both the wilder conditions of Chabhair and the sunshine and showers and teasing views of Challuim. My last visit to Chabhair was on a stunning clear day when I was joined on top by someone trying to see how to get to Beinn a' Chroin. When I pointed it out he couldn't understand why it looked so far away, until I realised that he thought we were on An Caisteal!!!!. I'd love to join you on your last Munro but there is no chance as I have had major eye surgery and was told today that I must not raise my pulse rate before mid September. Interesting to see what this summer's weather throws at you - a bonnie sunny day would be great for your video collection.
Good luck and best wishes on you final Munro, fingers crossed for good views , that was a great video thank you for sticking with it through all the bog . Look forward to watching you on your last Munro 🤗🤗🏴
Never mind James, it'll make that long hot bath back home, all the more pleasurable...! Good planning, by the way - the new set of clothes made the second hill a whole lot more doable.
Great vid james 👍 i was in scotland beginning of August weather and midges that awful went home after 2 days ,what a waste of diesel ⛽️ ha .off to north wales next month mines ,mountains and beaches ⛱️ cant wait for your final munro journeys 😊
You picked two tough hills to do in a day. But good on you I did them separately but climbed Challum twice as I did not summit the first time due to mist and two worried lady’s with me. Climbed it a year later. Won’t rush to do it again though.
It wouldn't be a true Munro Journey if you didn't get some tough days with rather dreary boggy conditions and nil viz. - and there's plenty of that down that way alright! I also feel less guilty of zipping by car between mountains - on the same day - in order to make best use of being in a particular area, nothing wrong in that! Well done - not long to go now James! It's a big moment when you get into single figures - be ready!
Great video as usual James. Glad to see you got soaked at long last😂. Joking aside, shame about the clag and no views, but it's gonna happen sometime. Well done chap, keep going. Cheers,Ozzy.
Well done James. You really missed out on the views from Challum. Great perspective on BenLui and Ben Mor, Stob Binean. Definitely one to do again next if you’re down again. But well done for seeing through a brutal ordeal of 2 Munros in a (miserable) day!! Hat off to you sir.
That was soul sucking to watch haha... Great challenge though and now they're done and dusted. As much as I love a good view, I often treat my walks as an exorcism where it's all about the journey and not the destination. I would've loved this one... Maybe not so much mid way but, once done and when I'm shattered from it. Feels like your adding 3 days to your life haha
Haha this was pure Munro Bagging.. I had a few weeks holiday so had to get out 😂 glad I did now as its a rewarding feeling getting them ticked off.. now I have the bonus of going back when the weather is amazing 😁
I wonder how many hours and days have been spent up in the hills in the hope of “it might clear soon”. An enjoyable video even if the weather was tough going. 👍
Ben Challum is something else when there is snow on it. Great Munro to hike when there is a covering of snow. You did miss some good summit views as well. Hope you get a chance to return to Ben Challum again.
Dreadful weather this year. I've got a week in Kintail coming up which I already have low hopes for. Was there 2 weeks ago with 70 mph gusts (at the minimum... MWIS was a little less conservative with their estimates) and just barely got two munros. You made the best of it though!
You have to go over the Arête and finish up on the UKs highest mountain what a way to finish James you cannot come back down after CMD 😢 The Arête is very special you’d love it mate good luck on your final day whatever you decide to do 👍
That's a shame about the clagg. I did Chabair from the other side, cycled in, much dryer, but its find your own way so to speak. Was looking forward to you doing Chalum; some cracking views from the top. It was boggy even after some fine summer weather when I did it. Good luck 🍀
Sometimes the walk is just about conquering the mountain with zero hope of views. Nearly all of my hiking is in the Lake District but I have had days where the winds on the mountain tops were 60-70mph, I walked through a mini-blizzard on the top of St Sunday Crag where the ground was frozen solid and shards of ice/snow were hitting me hard, and on one day there was a sharp downpour where the rain fell so heavily it bounced from the ground a meter upwards and formed a kind of thin ground fog.
In Torridon at the beginning of September and it looks like we're getting more settled weather. The rest of the summer has been atrocious here in the borders.
Hi James. Blimey mate, that’s not like you to go out in the hills in those conditions. Mind you, with the weather we’ve had this year if we waited for good weather we’d never get out. 🤣 All the best mate 😃⛰🥾🏴
I don't like either of these hills James. Boggy and boring to me. I did do Ben Challum from the north. A long walk down glen Lochay, but it was a much more interesting route than the normal one. Beinn Chabhair is just awful! Lol. Take care, Tom
nah... I decided this year that I'm done with munrobagging. No more suffering for the sake of marking off another line in a spreadsheet. I go there to enjoy myself and return home with some nice photos. Only had 5 hiking days this year.
What a great attitude bit like mine i decided very early not to waste my time and money hiking up a munro in miserable weather just to say iv done it now hand pick my days up on the hills any size of hill but has to be decent weather for a view ⛰️🥾👍
@@davidcalder8210 well... had two very close calls last year, took me a while but finally understood the lesson. This year, I tried Ben Lawers route 3 times. The first time, did Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers, but it was so unbearably cold that I just turned around. Came back two weeks later - clouds all over the summits. Turned around and went home :). Third time the charm - did all 5 (An Stuc descent was something else, but didn't feel like I was about to become a statistic) on that route, got some nice photos from the trip :) And that's how I want to do it. I have nothing to prove to anyone, so I only go North when I have 80% chance of actually seeing where I'm going :)

I so wish could walk with you on this day but alas its not going happen. Have a great time and have a dram when you top out.
Email sent to you.
All the best for your final Munro. Would love to have joined you but i'm rota'd on for work and unable to swap it. Look forward to the video.
Unfortunately I'm working dayshift on that day.
Would have loved to meet yourself James and got a new munro done.
Unfortunately I can't, I'm now going to be off the next two weeks and i return to work on that date..

Very well done and Cheers from Northern Ireland.
Well done James
i just come back from North West of Scotland and on 3 days we had awful weather but still did it. well done :)
This summer has been disastrous weather-wise, so well done, James, for doing these two in such horrendous conditions. The bogs have been almost impassable the last two times I've been up at Loch Tay and Beinn a Ghlo. You're almost there. Keep going!✊

I have now done An Teallach and The Saddle, videos coming soon 😁 Can confirm I got good weather for them!
@@ScottishMunroJourney That is really great to hear, James. Looking forward to watch!
Well done James! 🏴
That's proper Munrobagging! Two single Munros in a day... You're a lot fitter and more determined than I've ever been
Great stuff again mate, getting closer 👏🏻

Dome this in January, deep snow, the view onto ben more is superb
Great video and scenes!!
Was planning to walk Bein Chabhair this week so your trip was most entertaining. Thx for posting JMO
Enjoyed the video as usual James.
Definitely a bit of a hike to do them both.

Catch you on the next one.
Great hike. Thank you for sharing. Take care. Should try Norway, been raining in Aalesund since June (or at least it feels like it) Thank you for sharing 🙂
There are some really fantastic mountains on your final shortlist, some real gems, hope you enjoy them

Well done - shame about the weather, the very thing which has demotivated me from any hill-walking these past few months.
Thank you - it has been a terrible summer!
Well done James, tough day in that weather mate 👍
What an effort James! To this day I maintain that Ben Challum was my most miserable Munro. It was wet, boggy and I couldn’t see a thing from start to finish. I was soaked to the bone 😂 I really do enjoy your videos pal :)

Thats true, I will have a fair few to revisit with this summers weather 😂
Did these a few years ago and the conditions underfoot were worse than this! Came back and did them in the snow which was far easier.
Yes I reckon frozen bog would make these much easier 😁

😅😅😅😅

The bog doesn't seem to clear though.😮
That's a shame about the clagg.

Was looking forward to you doing Chalum; some cracking views from the top. It was boggy even after some fine summer weather when I did it.

One for a freezing cold winters day I reckon 😁

Have you done all 282 ? Love your vidoes 😊
Are you going to do the CMD Arête up to Ben Nevis after Carn Mon Dearg? It looks amazing!
I don't like either of these hills James. Boggy and boring to me. I did do Ben Challum from the north. A long walk down glen Lochay, but it was a much more interesting route than the normal one. Beinn Chabhair is just awful! Lol. Take care, Tom

What you planning for your final one? Carn mor dearg?
oof man i did ben challum in the rain and sleet and lying snow - on top of bog! was not nice
nah... I decided this year that I'm done with munrobagging. No more suffering for the sake of marking off another line in a spreadsheet. I go there to enjoy myself and return home with some nice photos. Only had 5 hiking days this year.
