I picked up the new Macbook Pro 16 inch on my way to a video shoot. I decided to vlog my weekend with it and see how it handled a weekend of travel and work!
Finally someone with the same thought process as me what’s the point of buying something you don’t need I agree with you with the base model good job on the video keep it up
Awesome video, while I was in Salt Lake I picked up my 16 inch M1 Max and used it throughout the flight back to Amsterdam. Absolutely love the machine so far!
The Max version with 32GB or 64GB would have been a reasonable upgrade as the additional GPU power and faster memory would speed editing and render. I wouldn't go with the 8TB storage option as the price Apple charges is out of line. The 16 inch makes more sense for editing video or images over the 14 inch -- my desktop monitor is 32 inches. Getting a bunch of 2TB or 4TB NVME external drives for redundant storage would be the next step -- when you're being paid to shoot you need more than one copy just in case.
Totally agree. I have never gone for a beefy internal hard drive! How most of my productions operate is we create a master and backup, and those two drives travel separately the entire time (even as simple as two people who are traveling in separate cars). Simple insurance on shoots.
Do you carry tripods in the long case? How do you check it? Do you use some kind of media pass? Do you have any tips or videos of traveling with all your gear? I love your channel!!

@@JordanPulmano Thanks so much for the reply! I'm still on the fence, though currently typing on the base model 14 inch while waiting for a 14 inch with 10/16 and 1 TB to arrive. My 2017 16 inch had a really tragic event and the only machine available was the base model 14 inch. I like a lot about it, but rendering out 580 plus images for a time lapse is still pretty time consuming. Not sure if the Max is the way to go, or if 32gb is the answer.
First time i've seen someone unbox a mac in a car! haha Great video though! Your so busy that i feel very lazy compared to you😅😶.. And i feel guilty having a much higher specced model than you and not being nearly as busy😥 You mentioned always running out of storage, (i find carrying external drives everywhere is messy and frustrating), so its a pity you couldn't atleast get your hands on a 1 or 2tb ssd model without ordering and waiting. Even the base M1-Pro with specced up 32gb Ram has significant improvement on performance times. You look like someone who could use as much free time as possible, so faster processing/rendering/exporting etc the better! haha🙃 Maybe order a slightly upgraded Pro model (SSD and RAM upgrades), and return this base one in the 90-day window? Of anyone, i definitely think you deserve a better prepared model :)
I appreciate the kind words man! Don’t ever feel guilty about that. You got a laptop spec that fit your needs or you plan to fit your needs in the near future and there’s nothing wrong with that! For the hard drive situation, I always carry a master and backup hard drive so that there are two copies of the footage when on a shoot. Typically one copy goes with me, and the backup goes with someone else for safety. So internals are basically just reserved for software for me. My plan is to snag a 14in pro max eventually. I don’t need anything beefy because my main editing station is a custom built PC, but it will be nice to have similar power while working mobile. Thanks again for watching!

Overall it’s a different experience. iPad is great but still very much a tablet / mobile UI so if anything, switching to MacBook would just give you more options overall!
