  • I'm getting the hang of shopping at our on base commissary. This is a typical grocery haul for our family of 7. They don't carry all the brands we enjoyed back in the states, but they do have a decent selection of items available. It's nice to have these American options here to make it feel a bit more like home. Hopefully I can try one of the local Japanese grocery stores soon as well!

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 89:1
“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

We’re a gf family of 7 in Arizona and I spend $300-$400 a week. I try to do mostly organic produce and grass fed/ pasture raised meats and eggs.

Same! I miss not having grass fed meet here, but I haven’t been to Costco yet so maybe they’ll have some. 😉 I’m thankful for what we do have access to.

I was guessing around $300! I love you can get well know brands still. We have tried a lot gluten free pancakes our favorite brand is Kodiak. I'd say Bob's Mill comes in 2nd. Many blessings to your family and you! ❤

Thanks Ashley! I’ll have to see if we can have the Kodiak mix sent to us from the states. 😉 Vitacost has a nice selection of food items and they ship to APO/FPO addresses! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I am surprised that you paid in USD but not Japanese yen.

Most of the places on base you can pay in dollars. But off base it’s yen. 😉

We’re doing pretty well. We’re enjoying getting to know both of our neighbors. One of them has four kids right around our kids ages! My two oldest started swimming lessons, which they are loving. We’re back into a school routine, which helps give our days some needed structure. Overall I think we’re doing well for where we’re at in this process. 🤗👏🏻

Is the commissary as big as a regular market? My son is GF/CF and loves, loves only the Bob Mills pancake mix. He is 18 and a picky eater.

It’s fairly similar to a regular grocery store. Maybe more like a country store. It has some options, but not as wide of a selection as a chain grocery store like Publix or even Walmart. Bob’s Red Mill makes some great products that we really enjoy as well. 🤗
