So glad you guys finally dived into the Young Rascals! "A Beautiful Morning" , "Good Lovin", " I've Been Lonely Too Long" , "How Can I Be Sure" and "People Got To Be Free" are some of their really good songs.
All great, and "Good Lovin" is more of a rocker than their others.
Yea! About time for The Rascals.
There is not one song on this list that I don't love! I had all of this of course on vinyl. ✌️♥️
So many great hits and memories as a teenager in West Palm Beach FL. 🇨🇦🥰🔥💖
They started out as the Young Rascals and even wore attire that looked like the original Little Rascals, but they dropped the outfits and the name Young and just became known as the Rascals. Might have been due to trademark concerns.
Many radio stations in the way back would start your day with their "It's a Beautiful Morning."
Felix Cavaliere, the songwriter and usually lead singer of this group, had toured in Europe in 1963 as the organ player for another group and guess who else was on the bill? The Beatles! Felix took one look at that and headed back to the States and put this band together. Lots of great songs in the mid-to-late Sixties: "I've Been Lonely Too Long," "A Girl Like You," and "People Got To Be Free," among others.
People Got To Be Free has an epic horn chart
Yep, Joey Dee and the Starliters.
Jay *& Amber, you'll love their "Good Lovin' ", "A Beautiful Morning" and "People Got To Be Free"!!
All these are amazing! Yes!
Amber people got to be free is going to knock your socks off
" A girl like you"
3o
3 of their best
One of the iconic songs of the sixties was the Rascal's "People Got to Be Free" from 1968. 1967's "How Can I Be Sure?" was also a big hit for them. A big hit song with kind of a similar message and feel as this one was Simon and Garfunkel's "Feelin' Groovy" from 1967, and another sixties song with the word groovy in it is the Mamas and the Papas' "Somebody Groovy" from 1965.
The Harper's Bizarre version of Feelin Groovy was better in my opinion since it became a hit and was longer than the Simon and Garfunkel version. Of course kudos to Simon and Garfunkel for writing such a great song.
@@bobbyd968 I prefer that version as well.
This song will never get old ❤💓💞
Nice perfect song 😍😉💘
Another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group with a lot of hit songs to discover.
This was the east coast white soul/rock music. This was in sharp contrast to the rock groups coming from the west coast during the late 60’s.
Keep enjoying your exploration into the foundation of today’s music - although a difference is that we still hear these songs 60 years later and they are just as good, if not better, than today’s music.
This song really sets a laid back mood. We need music like this today.
Definitely a vibe. “Good Lovin’” and “Beautiful Morning” are great too!😊❤
Always loved this song. But I especially love how raspy and soulful the singer’s voice is. He has a beautiful tone as well.
Felix Cavaliere. One of the best ever.
@@catmanpc9166 As a kid, I fell in love with his voice, and the sweet, sweet harmonies.
@@jackiecarson859 yes…pure bliss to my ears
Saw him a few years ago on an oldies tour and he still sounds the same. Great voice
@@mkenific Yea, Felix still got that soulful groove goin' on!
Thanks for the reaction. The Rascals were some of the dukes of 60’s “blue-eyed soul”. They were first The Young Rascals, and then they dropped the “Young”, and just were “The Rascals”. And as so many have commented, they have so many gems in their catalog. Enjoy!
It's about time!!!!!
Oh yes, Rascals baby! This is Blue Eyed Soul peeps! They were dudes from Jersey, 3 out of 4 were Italians!👍🏻😃 If you can catch the live performance of them on The Ed Sullivan Show doing, "Mickey's Monkey" and "Lonely Too Long" you would really see how they were one of the greatest live acts of that era!✌🏼🙂
Oh yeah, saw their live performances on Ed Sullivan. What high energy w/ just 3 instruments! Sounded better singing live & they set the bar quite high. Luv'd Felix's rockin' soulful vocals, Eddie & Gene's harmonies, & of course Dino's dynamic drumming!
@@jo-annkawakami3373 My thoughts exactly!👍🏻😃
“How Can I Be Sure” is really special - they have many great songs as many have mentioned.
One of my favorite Rascals songs of all time (BTW, by the time Groovin' came out, the band had dropped the "young" from their name and became simply The Rascals) is "How Can I Be Sure?", as well as their biggest overall hit, "Good Lovin'".
"It's a beautiful morning", great song, great Sunday morning drive song
Loved this song ever since it came out. What a great feeling I get everytime I hear it !! 💗👍
“Groovin’ was one of my favorite songs! When Sundays roll around I always think of this song! Definitely a soulful groove to chill on! “Life will be ecstasy you and me endlessly!”
@@sheilameyers152 Summer Breeze is another one that moves me !! 👍
“Never My Love” by The Association is a very nice one from 1967 that you might enjoy.
@@R.POWELL Summer Breeze is fire!
My first year as a teenager.....
I'm smiling so big. Loved the Young Rascals and such good memories! Thanks 😎😎😎😎
One of my favorite groups of the 60’s. This was a chart topper! What positive memories 😊😊
ditto. brings back a ton of memories.
One of the smoothest tunes and sweetest ones of that era!❤
Yes, that's Gene Cornish on the harmonica. This song came out in the Spring of '67. Graduated high school and entered college that year. Whenever I hear it I think of those carefree days. Did lots of groovin.......not just on Sundays.
The Band was first called the Young Rascals, then they dropped the Young and just called themselves the Rascals. that IS a harmonica.
This and 'How Can I Be Sure" are my Favorite Rascal's Songs
"Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out Anymore".
When I hear "A Beautiful Morning " I'm transported to my mom's kitchen. NYC, mid-summer 1968. She had a small table radio there and that song was in heavy rotation. We didn't have A/C, the windows are open and the air was warm with it's own early morning smell. It was going to be a hot day, I was on vacation from school, and the day held many possibilities.
The Young Rascals are among a number of recording artists that John Mellencamp name dropped in his song "R-O-C-K In The USA"
Finally!!! I’ve been begging for this group!!!
The Young Rascals, later known as The Rascals where a fantastic group from the 60's both incarnations of the band deserve to be explored!
Their best hit ever was the astonishing "How Can I be Sure." Totally different sound, European vibe. Eddie Brigati's vocals will recall Freddie Mercury's - he even resembled him a bit.
"
The Young Rascals (later, The Rascals) was one of the great groups of the 60s. How Can I Be Sure is their most beautiful song. When their first hit, Good Lovin', was released in early 1966, I was in 6th grade & the group has been well-played on the soundtrack of my life. Another great song, People Got To Be Free, was The Rascals' entry on the long list of protest songs of the late 60s. Great group to hear again. And again.
Yeah its like laying in the grass looking up at the clouds ⛅️ relaxing
Rascals are a forever group...Once you've heard them, you never forget!
A beautiful morning, your next pick with this band.
“How Can I Be Sure?” is my favorite Young Rascals song with Eddie Brigati on lead vocal.
This song reminds me of those lazy hazy dog days of summer, the weather would be just right in the 70s, sunny skies with just a smattering of clouds., chilling out in the yard with easy groovin' music playing and grilling, enjoying good company! That's what this song brings to my mind whenever I hear it. I am so very glad you enjoyed this song too! Enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕👍👏
Me too!! Exactly!!
San Diego....summer of 1964 &65. Perfection. I was young, d\free, and unencumbered.
Yes!!! Blue skies..no chemtrails good times
Even The Beatles' Penny Lane and The Monkees' Pleasant Valley Sunday evoke these great days!
This is what came to mind for me too. Good times.
These guys ruled the charts in the late 60's . The band boasted 2 fine singers , and could handle different kinds of moods . Bar bands still sing their first hit , GOOD LOVIN .
One of my favorite tunes ever!!
"How Can I Be Sure" by The Young Rascals will blow your minds with their vocals..
My hippie soul is smiling 😊
What a great "Classic Rock" song from the 60s. These guys (Felix Cavaleri) had so much soul in their music.
Amen!
Wife here...Soooooo Awesome..!! Love Love this song!!...Positive bright side..The Bird and the Pace...Perfect Description!🥰
HIGH SCHOOL DAYS ... YEP, IM 73! BEEN THERE DONE THAT AND HAVE THE WAR WOUNDS TO PROVE IT ... GREAT VOCALS!
My favorite morning song of all time. "A Beautiful Morning" I know you guys will want to play it a lot
They were HUGE in the 60's
I Love the Rascals ! Groovin is a timeless Classic that will never go out of style !
The vibe to this is amazing! Smiling!
Finally! The Young Rascals and later just The Rascals. Please try A Beautiful Morning. It always put me in a great mood. Love it. Love them.
Amber is the definition of GROOVIN'
🤗 🤗 🤗
"Beautiful Morning" and "How Can I Be Sure" are other songs by them that I recommend.
An Uplifting True Smooth Soul Groove,,
The Blackbyrds "Walking In Rhythm"
The Young Rascals who became the Rascals were a hugely talented group who had numerous hits. You might want to check out: "Good Lovin'", "How Can I Be Sure", "See" and "Love is a Beautiful Thing". Absolute perfection!
I love this song.
They also went by the name 'The Rascals.' I think you'd like their song 'People Got toBe Free,' not only because of the lyrics, but there's a great horn section in it too.
this song is great to listen to when ya`ll take the kids out to the lake-picnicing- watching the kids playing- that`s living
Drummer Dino Danelli is playing the bongos. When you listen to their next song, Good Lovin’, you will see Dino Danelli in action playing the drums. One of the greatest drummers, period!
"It's a Beautiful Morning", "People Got To Be Free", "You Better Run" (covered by Pat Benatar) "It's Wonderful", "How Can I Be sure", "I've Been Lonely Too Long". All are classics worth checking out by the Young Rascals AKA the Rascals.
I’m almost 70 years old, and still have all my albums . My first one was The Beatles of course. But I LOVED my Young Rascals the best! Love Grandma Debbie
Oh what a great song this is The Young Rascals have some great songs. People Gotta be Free, A Beautiful Morning. ❤
The Rascals - A Beautiful Morning, also gives the same vibe.
I love that song A Beautiful Morning it’s such a relaxing song
Another song from the 60's by Jay and the techniques. "Apples peaches pumpkin pie." You will love it
People Got to Be Free, How Can I Be Sure, A Beautiful Morning, Good Lovin, so many great songs from this band!
Their rockin' numbers are also great - You Better Run, Good Lovin', See, Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Any More, Come On Up, Love Is a Beautiful Thing
If, during your song travels, you come across a group called The Rascals, don't worry -- it's still them. They got older! Excellent group!
This is my teen years of the 60's,
Takes me back. Beautiful memories 💓☺️🤗
" Groovin " is one of my favorite songs by The Young Rascals, along with " "A Beautiful Morning "
If you wanna get a similar vibe check out John Sebastian & The loving spoonful doing “what a day for a daydream”. You will want to “fall on your face on someone’s new mowed lawn”😃
Simon & Garfunkel "The 59th Street Bridge Song". Thanks.
The (Young) Rascals are one of those eclectic groups that don't sound the same every time. I love all their stuff.
The Rascal did some great songs. They should do a Jersey Boys 2 about this and Strongly Suggest "Good Lovin'" "Beautiful Mornin'"
As far as more Blue-Eyed Soul music from the 60's, you should try another Jersey band The Soul Survivors and "Expressway to Your Heart".
I'm from the NYC/NJ area and the Rascals came up in the clubs and were a highly polished act by the time they started recording and only got better. "Good Lovin'" is a hard edged rock feel, "A Beautiful Morning" is closer to Groovin'. You called it with the soulful feeling. They also were concerned with events in the news with "People Got To Be Free". Their last two albums "Peaceful World" & "The Island Of Real" are actually very soulful/funky/jazz fusion, I don't think they sold as well because their audience was more rock oriented but I really like these albums. Their earlier albums though did have the strongest material.
Love the '60's groooooove! Brings me back to the beach as a kid.
Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize
Great reaction J&A! Just gotta check out The Rascals' -> It's A Beautiful Morning! Also, don't forget to hit some more of The Grass Roots -> Midnight Confessions, Sooner or Later, Temptation Eyes, and Two Divided by Love.
One of the coolest vibe songs ever written.
This song was the Rascals' second US # 1 hit out of a total of three. Groovin' spent four nonconsecutive weeks at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (two weeks beginning May 20th 1967 and two weeks beginning June 17th 1967).
One of the best American Groups of the 60's.
Rascals had "blue eyed soul".
Meaningful songs:
People Got To Be Free came out Summer '68 as Russian tanks were used to repress hope of freedom in Czechoslovakia.
Groovin', such a mellow, peaceful, feel good song that could be so enjoyed when Sundays were still a relaxful day for just about everyone.
How Can I Be Sure, is still very relevant today to any relationship.
A Beautiful Morning, is such an inspiring, feel good song to start the day off with.
This is one of the songs I sang along to for my late husband the morning he passed away. The Rascals are such a good band that doesn’t the recognition like they deserve.
Oh I love this song!! Was really groovy!!! Groovin’!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ It’s a Beautiful Morning is another positive good vibe song!!
"Beautiful Morning" "Good Lovin" cannot go wrong with these guys.
I suggested this a long time ago - one of my favorite songs of all time - glad you got around to reacting to it - I thought you would love it...this song has a definite latin beat and the singers voice sounds latino to me. Its a great song
My feelings for this song are colored by two things: 1) hearing it when it came out in 1967 as a child of 8, with the extra magic that comes from hearing with a child's ears, and 2) hearing it in the musical and social context of the times.
Great tune!
There's nothing better than peace & love.
This was played at the first dance I went to in the fall of 1968. I was just starting high school. Great memories! That smile of yours Amber is exactly how I feel when I listen to this group.
They are a blue eyed soul group. They are a deep dive. Need to hit Good Lovin’
One of my all time favorites. There is not one particle of this song could be perfected upon. Takes you back to a time
when the world seemed perfect, complete with birds. How wonderful.
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Just found out a fun fact The Beatles opened for the Rascals when the Beatles were starting out in Germany. "Beautiful Morning", "People Got To Be Free", and "Good Loving" are favorites of mine.
LOVED this reaction!
This song came out on 7/31/67, "The summer of love". I had just turned 12 two days earlier and was getting ready for the 8th grade not far from you. Bell Jr High in Tulsa. And I had this on vinyl, albeit a 45 because they were about 50 cents and that's all a paperboy could afford! 33s were out of my price range. lol
And yes, that is a harmonica. (I've played for 59 years)
Every time I hear their songs I go right back to my teens. Now you have to dive in to their other songs they are all so good, A Beautiful Morning is a must hear!
You guys will love “Beautiful Morning “ same vibe
" A Beautiful Morning " is a classic song by them that you both will enjoy.
"Groovin'" (1967) reminds me of "Cruisin'" (1979) by Smokey Robinson.
Smokey was inspired to write Cruisin after he heard Groovin.
One of the best groups from the sixties
"People Got to Be Free" is THE song you need to hear ...and the story behind it. It is ICONIC.
Always loved this song! Great to start off a weekend. BTW, that whole album is GREAT! Actually very soulful group. "I've Been Lonely too Long," & "Good Lovin'" are other great hits. They had quite a few hits.
This band is what people think of when they say "blue eyed soul." The Righteous Brothers are the other one. Other great songs by the Young Rascals are "I've Been Lonely Too Long" and especially "People Got To Be Free" (by this time they were weren't Young anymore.....they were just The Rascals).
Let's be honest. Any rock tune with a harmonica in it... goes right to the Top !!!
Felix Cavaliere is the vocalist, and Hammond B3 organ. Amazing vocalist, very soulful.
I remember being really, really little and hearing this playing from my older sisters' bedroom... music is always connected to memories for me...good, bad, and everything in between. LOVE IT!
Rarely was the word grooven or groovy used back in the sixties. It wasn't really popular with everyday life. However this song was popular.
As a kid around 10 y o i always loved this song ! Raised by my grandparents , had an aunt and uncle around playing some of the best music ever !
Yep, harmonica. They come in different keys... check out videos by Blues Traveler...John Popper has a vest made just to hold all his different harmonicas. Oh and in Neil Young's live version of "Heart of Gold" he's actually talking about having to find the harmonica with the proper key for the song.
One of my top 10 favorite songs. It is so chill! Great pick!
My favorite song from these guys is "A Girl Like You" - great!
