    I’m originally from the East Coast and I’ve been living in Oregon for a year and a half and I can truly say it is the most beautiful state I’ve ever been in and it’s just really a nice place to be in general. Good people, beautiful landscapes, great outdoor activities, some of the best camping and fishing I’ve ever done in my life. The Oregon coast really is something else. You could literally do something different in the state, every day of the year.

      I just visited for 3 weeks, went all over the state and oh boy I want to move there so badly. Everyday since that trip has been just slight sadness of not being able to look out my car window and see beautiful trees and mountains. Did you end up getting a job that caused you to move? I am looking into either Intel or Nike due to my background

    I grew up in Oregon and got stationed in Colorado, so I'm just lucky I guess. They are both amazing states. With that said, I think the biggest "pro" for Oregon is how accepting everyone is. I've gotten used to being judged a little bit. That was tough at first, but I think it made me stronger lol. The biggest "con" has to be how much everyone in Oregon is struggling, I mean you had to notice that most towns have few resources, no jobs, and especially for young people it could feel very hopeless. A lot of my high school friends never escaped poverty as adults, even if their parents arrived here 30 years ago with amazing prospects.

Rick and I worked armed security here back in 1998 and the addicts/homeless where a problem back then. Oh the second amendment ha that's a joke now. Multnomah County passed a law some 10-15 years ago that as an armed guard I can only work at FDIC insured banks and that's it oh and I can't carry my duty weapon with me on my hip to and from work I have to lock it up and leave it at the bank. Oh as for the state our current Governor Kate Brown she has made it impossible to get the death sentence. At the time my friend was murdered the killers lawyer waited to make his plea until AFTER Brown changed the law on who can get the death sentence.

I still remember watching every single video I could find about the area, and reading just about everything I could before moving here. Your videos were definitely my favorite, Briggs, and I still pop into your channel to watch your videos every now and then.
    I hate that Portland has a bad reputation with a lot of people, because honestly Portland is a place that restored my faith in humanity. Writing Portland off due to being offended by people rioting and liberal politics is short sighted. I spent my entire life in Alabama, and I love my home state...but there is no denying that Portland has an energy like no other. The people here are diverse and beautiful. You can totally live your life your own way, and you will be welcomed. Even if you're from California. I love meeting people from CA. There are a lot of people from everywhere here. My best friend here is from North Carolina, and I have several close friends here from Alabama. I have met a lot of kind, genuine people in Portland, and I have had a blast.

      @jollygreengiant7190 2 года назад +1

      @@ayeshasiddiqua5651 I'll be honest I am probably not the best source for that information. haha I will speak generally and try to give some tips on researching which is what I would have to do to get the exact numbers for you, especially if you are planning on moving here. I would say the cost of living in say...Portland. Not as expensive as Seattle, NY, LA, or other major cities. Rent is high just generally, higher near downtown. Depending on your field and what kind of work you are doing you may be able to find jobs where you make enough money to offset the cost. Houses are not cheap. They are about 400,000 at least for an average house in the suburbs. Unless you are rolling in dough, you'll be renting if you live near downtown Portland. Washington does not have income tax, Oregon does not have sales tax. Utilities are pretty inexpensive.
      Your main cost honestly is going to be housing. Rent, mortgage, whatever. I would suggest looking at jobs around this area, and apartments. Get a good idea that way of what you would most likely earn based off of what sort of work you will be doing, then make a budget based on your needs and then factor in housing based on maybe like the average cost of the rentals you are looking at.
      Not sure if this helps, I am not very good with this stuff, but there ya go! haha

I worked at the military facility on top of the mountain and had the most beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from our Dispensary. That one year assignment left a lasting impression on me. As an avid outdoor person I was in heaven. From my front door to Ten Mile Lakes it was a few miles of hiking on an old logging road. I would leave early in the morning and be back at lunch with enough trout for the weekend. We had deer and an occasional bear ramble through base housing; never any issues. The entire coastline was a veritable playground and our commander ensured we all enjoyed it. He purchased a fishing boat and a six-wheel drive amphicat for the nearby sand dunes. I hope to return to Oregon after this health plague is over...soon I hope.

Anyway, in Oregon you have access to just about any type of ecosystem - desert, high plains/wheat country, fault block mountains, Rocky Mountain type mountains, volcanic type mountains, major river environment, farm country, coast, rainforest, dry forest, sage habitat, - and all reasonably easy to get to by car. When Briggs spoke in surprise that a liberal state like Oregon would have gun-friendly laws it brought back a memory. I had recently left "the nest" and got a job with the Federal Government in military procurement. I regularly ate with two people, who liked to talk politics. One was a major in the US Army, as one might expect he was conservative. The other, a civilian Federal employee as was I, was liberal. One day the topic of gun control came up. Much to my surprise the conservative Army officer was pro-gun control. The liberal civilian took the NRA's position that he should be able carry his pistol wherever he wanted and the Government should butt out of it. I was surprised. I learned that humans are very complex and unpredictable and cannot be pigeon holed easily.

    Oregon and Colorado are THE American places that whole USA should aspire to be if they ever want to catch up with modern western society with proper laws, safety, education and living standarts. Oregon and Colorado are the closest to European living standarts you can get. For nearly a year I lived in Texas and had to move to Oregon for another 3 years. It was like moving from American hell to American heaven everything happening around. People, laws, even weather, beautiful nature oh my. I'm conservative myself(in civilised world manner..not US two party divided model) but southern America taught me to hate republicans. Well....some people from Portland taught me to hate left too xD But overall. Americans are great people if you left out both extremists far left and right (republicans are much worse in this. We could all see that from behind the sea in recent times. And I can say it objectively out loud even unlike the most born Americans that never went outside their state). Oregon will always be in my heart now watching back from Austria :)

      Oregon's K-12 system is the 6th worst in the nation. No one should aspire to that. And more people move to Texas each year than any other state. In fact the five most desirable states in the country are all red, full of those hated Republicans. Apparently most folks in the US want nothing to do with "European living standarts".

    I took a look at two places. Bend, OR or Silver Summit, UT. Ultimately I went with Silver Summit as it's a bit sunnier year round. Quite close to Salt Lake City and the skiing in and around Park City. Bend was nice though.

    Yep I recently retired here. Goose Hollow. Be yourself ✅ Very friendly people✅ Reasonable cost of living ✅ Good doughnuts ✅ The current situation with Covid /Homeless problem/anarchist/ and so on. Could be temporary Can be overlooked. IF. A quirky weird environment is for you. Hwy 101 is beyond beautiful and the snow stays in the mountains away from Portland. How can we describe that strange rain but not rain stuff.
