I'm not worried about her age. One of my parent's WW2 friends piloted Wellington bombers on night raids over Germany when he was just 19 years old. The oldest person in the 5 man crew was only 23. They were the bravest of the brave.

ATPL Licence exams and the two flight tests are hard. When passed then it's onto the type rating , equally hard. So to become a captain so young shows great ability.
I was denied a chance to have flight formation with TAP based on the fact that the age limit to undergo their training was 25, I was almost 27 but decided to apply anyway, but there you go, younger and younger seems to be the norm!

We want a captain with a good technical understanding of the aircraft, good flying skills, good decision making skills, and who functions well under pressure. It's far from clear that you get any of that as a consequence of supervising an autopilot for thousands of hours. She's apparently demonstrated that she has what it takes to be a captain, so what has her age got to do with it?
The ages of 19 and 25 aren’t the issue for me, it’s the experience. Nothing beats life experience no matter how talented and educated you are. I think both 19 and 25 together is a bit too young in the cockpit. However , respect to them and congrats on what they have accomplished.
with modified seats¿ so that s/he can reach the foot pedals? i think they might have to change the cockpit door lock rules, unless the can accommodate a min (porta) potty in there. [at that age (or above 60) it isn't easy to always hold on till they get to the toilet!]

And the minimum age requirement isn't something specified by the dgca (directorate general of civil aviation) as you can an spl when you're 16, but the minimum age requirement that many flying schools (by many i mean, the ones that provide quality training and are really famous in my country) have is 18.

yeah my thoughts _exactly_ it's not the day to day regular normal uneventful flying I have an issue with its if the plane gets into serious trouble and they don't have the necessary expertise, flying hours and experience to be able to rectify it and I think a 26 and 19 year old should be flying together if they're going to have someone that young flying the plane the other person should be older with more flying hours under their belt
It's not her sex, it's her experience that's my issue. And her first officer is even younger. Give me an experienced commercial pilot who's also had a lengthy military career any day.
She's flown for over 1500 hours and 6 years to be where she is. I think she's experienced enough by now, her age isn't the problem as long as she knows how to properly fly an aircraft, plus the aircraft is in autopilot mode most of the time and there are many features that can stop her from crashing the airplane even if she wants to.

Why is everyone being so rude and offensive to young Pilots? IN the Uk rules are different for a reason. Because we know. You can train people to become much better at an ealier age. My main concern with such young pilots is lack of "unplanned" events experience... i.e. a young pilot will only have had 3/4 winters on line flying experience before taking command, you could have a flight deck with both pilots put in a situation way out of their comfort zones and with no previous knowledge to call upon. Sadly pilots now days are more computer operators than aviators ...
Those 2 years, on the other hand, are very intense. I've heard of some who only got a week of holiday at christmas and easter during training (compare that to 3, ~9 week semesters at University). Whilst yes it's not 12,000 hours, you can only expect to have accumulated that many hours half way through your career (which coincides with the time when most pilots become captains anyway).
You obviously know nothing about checklists in any industry. They are there to ensure you don't miss anything 100% of the time. One small memory lapse could have disastrous results. You use the list to methodically go through everything without fail

I am sure they are much more focused and motivated than 99% of the rest of the miserable people. I don't know about EasyJet but you do the captain and the first officer have the same license and rating to fly that equipment. In airlines, the employee seniority number determines your career, equipment, routes, position, and if or when you get furloughed. If Easyjet, and if a normal airline, hired a highly experience ex airline captain off the street that new experienced captain would start off as a junior co-pilot.
8-10 years ago there were already CPTs who were her age flying for various airlines in the UK/Europe (on Jets/Props). So this isn't really new news. However for the guys/girls commenting they're too young... that's just rubbish. With the correct training and attitude, age isn't an issue. The older they are doesn't automatically make them better... in plenty of cases they are actually worse than their younger counterparts.
Back in the 1970s, a qualified female pilot applied for a job with Ansett, an airline that flew throughout Australia and also to Asian international destinations. She was rejected at every stage because she was female. "She won't be able to eject from the cockpit because her earrings will get in the way" was typical. So good on you, Kate. And, phew, 26 is very young to be a Captain. She must be brilliant.
Pilots for regional airlines, tend to make much lower salaries than pilots for major airlines. For most airline pilots, working at regional airlines is usually a stepping stone to their next job. She should try to go to BA as soon as possible.

Not exactly her job, because you can only start training when you're 18 and it takes a MINIMUM of 18 months just to become a copilot, so if you're a copilot by nearly 20, you can't be captain by 21. She's made an absolutely incredible achievement. Don't knock it.

I've just made a short video about the anticipated shortage of commercial pilots in the next 20 years so if you're thinking of learning to fly then there's never been a better time, and as this story shows there is no barrier according to age or gender for those aspiring to be part of the air crew.
Great credit to her but what everyone fails to mention is that that lack of age restriction applies to budget airlines only. You need less hours hence why she's made it this soon at this age. It's a total impossibility to be a captain male or female at 26 for a major airline. Nearly all captains start around 40 at the very earliest in this case but most I would say start around 50+ and there are some who never even make it.
That is very true!Austrian Airlines,Lufthansa etc,do not have any Captains in their twenties!The salaries are less in budget airlines also!Also what is not mentioned is that budget airlines lay off pilots from time to time.That first officer at 19 is probably a partly sponsored cadet.Which means his parents give him half and EasyJet give the other half!Then bond you for at least 5 years and you can be layed off then taken on again then layed off!You can't go and fly elsewhere in between.

See my comments, she would have enough experience to be a A320 captain. IN the U.S. most 737 captain have at least 10 years/10,000 hrs.

Great credit to her but what everyone fails to mention is that that lack of age restriction applies to budget airlines only. You need less hours hence why she's made it this soon at this age. It's a total impossibility to be a captain male or female at 26 for a major airline. Nearly all captains start around 40 at the very earliest in this case but most I would say start around 50+ and there are some who never even make it.
That is very true!Austrian Airlines,Lufthansa etc,do not have any Captains in their twenties!The salaries are less in budget airlines also!Also what is not mentioned is that budget airlines lay off pilots from time to time.That first officer at 19 is probably a partly sponsored cadet.Which means his parents give him half and EasyJet give the other half!Then bond you for at least 5 years and you can be layed off then taken on again then layed off!You can't go and fly elsewhere in between.
