Nick made a really good point. He said it’s easy to make songs about your problems but it’s more a struggle to make music that’s positive. He talked about the influence it can have on teenagers which was a huge portion of their fan base. I totally respect them for that.
this interview was actually done in Dec of 1999. i have a bootleg 311 cd called "Vegs Style" that is a double disc live cd of their last concert of "99(12-19-99) and the last track is this interview. cool to see a vid of it after all these years of listening to the audio
Wow, this IS a great interview as it's a reminder to why I love this band so much and for so long. Can't help lol @ some of SA's facial expressions. Nick is very articulate and I didn't know about the no-weed on tour thing back then but I totally appreciate the 'natural high' bit. And yeah I know it's completely irrelevant but damn SA looks fine! (fans self)
How is it that they have such a "relaxed" musical vibe and yet are from Nebraska, their music sounds like it is straight from the California Coast, Like Santa Cruz.
They moved to California early in their careers. Before they were signed to a major label. Influenced by reggae and dancehall and then throw in the Cali vibe. I think a great combination! ✌️
Funny how the comments are “They’re so stoned.” And in the interview they talk about how they’ve been sober the whole tour without alcohol and marijuana. I guess they’re just grounded people no matter what.
I’ve never realized how good 311 was for my formative years, I call bs they weren’t getting down on that tour I just think they were 100% mindful of who was paying attention to them at this time
311 is a rad number how’s your come up with such a perfect band name lol jk k love you guys I listen to beautiful disaster amber and down at least once a day while driving, my playlist in the ride is solid. Lovee you guys
Bro there’s so much 311 songs to bump to on the whip😊 I loved playing Don’t stay home, DOWN, and Beautiful disaster at first then I discovered more songs that pleased my ear palettes. They’re fucking great
They look like their sick of each other's shit in this interview. When one talks, the other is throwing shade looks. Lol. Is it just me seein it or am I trippin? 😂
Shoulda called Hugh back to do universal pulse. It woulda been so much better. With some of the people 311 have worked with, i don't know how they even stomached, let alone chose Bob Rock. Yuck.
They spent a couple minutes during this very interview to talk about how they were not smoking during that particular tour they were on at the time of this interview. So no, they were not stoned.

Ahead of his time for real. That's why their music ages so well.
Thanks Hugh and 311 for making Soundsystem. One of your great albums!
Adam Taylor maybe my favorite album
@@jmoak311 it is my favorite album of all time
That's definitely my "stranded on a desert island and you get one album". So many moods on that record I love it
I'd say transistor is my fav 311 album but soundsystem is the best produced album hands down. Hugh did a great job.
@@Rob_Cary I’m with ya

Great throwback interview! Been a 31 fan 20 years and these guys are LEGIT. TOO MANY good songs to count
First album I ever bought was Grassroots back in 94ish. Still my favorite album ever
I agree with Greg. This is a fantastic interview with (finally) good quality! Thanks for the upload guys.
Great interview, never saw this one before. Love these guys. 311 forever! You guys definitely bring the good vibes to a troubled world.
Younger and probably wanted to be doing anything else besides interviews. Great dudes. Great life. Love 311".
LOVE this band!!!!
Great interview! Tha so for the upload, it is literally impossible to find any 311 interviews from the good old days
+Greg Flowers Thank you! We actually have a ton of other bands coming out for GRT we hope you check out the other videos in the series
311 just rules.........
Can't never get enough of these guys, love them to death.
For rockstars these guys are grounded. Weed probably helped
I know right. They're so well adjusted. Good parenting

And Soundsystem was fucking amazing. Literally my favorite album.
❤They’r fucking great❤ Edit: wrong comment I was replying lol😅
I ate some burritos with ghost peppers with S.A. That's why he looks so serious.
😂😂😂😂
S.A. looks so serious lol
Michael Davis i think he probably had had enough of interviews that day.
He looks hard as fuck almost scary. Was just thinking that
Its " Essay" Has the whole world gone insane?
Huh?
@@420killa He looks to glorious , not scary just too hot
sweet interview!
Glad you liked it!
Great interview
nick didn't want "mr rap rock" so instead he got mr bob rock in 2009. lol
D'Aaawww. They're so young...
So Soundsystem what recorded at The Hive in '98? I thought they didnt buy a Studio til 2000
how does Nick have more hair now than he did back then? the transistor music video days ((:
Had to switch up his style, I guess lol. Glad you enjoyed the video
MartyChills prolly cuz he bleached his hair. when I used to bleach mine it made it look like I had less than what I have.
No he had hair treatments done sometime in around 2001
@@Gammarklar no, bleached hair looks thinner. My hair looked the same when I bleached it. Full head of hair here
Funny how the comments are “They’re so stoned.” And in the interview they talk about how they’ve been sober the whole tour without alcohol and marijuana. I guess they’re just grounded people no matter what.
But Nick looks so stoned haha
Either Nick is stoned or he pulled an all nighter the night before.
SA looks like a cross between Phil Anselmo and Eminem. 🤔
Crazy to think that this is over 20 years ago... 😭
S. A. has resting "Im plotting revenge" face
lmao Nick is soooo high.
FailtimeFig Hahaha, I was thinking the same thing. He really aged gracefully
Blazed
soooo blazed
@@gavinhope2854 😂
Literally thought the same thing watching this despite him saying he wasn't using drugs during this tour😂
I’ve never realized how good 311 was for my formative years, I call bs they weren’t getting down on that tour I just think they were 100% mindful of who was paying attention to them at this time
If I didnt know better I'd think Nick was high in this interview! But what a great interview start to finish!
What album are they talking about? Soundsystem?
311 is a rad number how’s your come up with such a perfect band name lol jk k love you guys I listen to beautiful disaster amber and down at least once a day while driving, my playlist in the ride is solid. Lovee you guys

Wow they looked so much different in 2016!
This was actually recorded in 1999. ✌️
saw them 2022, this is an old video. they’re youngans.
SA went from mean-muggin’ hoodlum to worlds nicest dad
Step 1 . Consume mushrooms before interviewing 😂
Completely agree. Also he looks of his head aha
he wasnt..they spent a few minutes talking about how they were both 100% sober during that tour
I had no idea Eminem's brother is in 311 😆
Funny cause Hexum was rocking the bleach blonde way before Eminem
SA looks like a latin Eminem in this one, look closely.
both Scorpio
Its technology. See him in person . He will probably look like HIMSELF
@@carltonhammonds2330 no shit, you think?
S.A. is such a Scorpio ♏️
Astrology is bullshit 😆
Eminem looks a lot different with black hair.
Eminem looks Mexican here.

*JUST NICK ON THE MIC WAS ENUFF*
Dude these guys look like back in the day Linkin park Chester Bennington and mike shenoda!! RIP Chester.
311 was way before Linkin Fart!
This was 2000
Linkin Park modeled their entire existence after 311.
smokin crach.........cough.
Stoned much, lol
