Oh my goodness this is my uncle Mick who I havent seen for 35 years. He hasnt changed a bit and it is so good to see him play fiddle still. Mick sent this CD to my sister for christmas. Mick it is so good to see you play and looking so well. My son also plays fiddle and banjo and would be so interested in hearing from you. Bernie Bermingham Hall Moate Westmeath.
Sorry I haven't reposted/updated the site...life happens. You can still find it by searching for "the Donegal Fiddle Pages" I believe--somebody has saved a copy. Yes, Mickey Doherty can be heard on a double-cassette set called "The Gravel Walks." I don't know if it's still in production though. There's also some archival stuff floating about, I have several more items myself.
What?? Mickey Doherty has a living fiddle-playing grandson? Any albums? Anything else online? Mickey Doherty is my favorite fiddler... Great performance here of "Wheels of the World"!
@LarrySanger Hi Larry - yes, Mick Doherty is still playing, now in his late 80s. He was at the side of his grandfather when he died. Mick has been recorded in the last few years and the first CD is in process now and should be available in the first half of 2012 (from what I've heard). I'll put that in the video notes when it happens. Mick's never mentioned a recording of his grandfather - do you know of any? That would be amazing! BTW - is there a new version of your Donegal Fiddle site?
+Figserello I haven't seen that interview, but the timing sounds right. Mick's grandfather was the famous Mickey Doherty of the aristocratic Donegal traveller family.
Bit of a treat for you here then Martin. Check out extended recordings of Mickey Doherty in Convoy, co Donegal, in 1951 here. research.culturalequity.org/get-audio-ix.do?ix=session&id=IR51&idType=abbrev&sortBy=abc
Still the best version I’ve ever heard

Any idea where one might look to find these recordings?
Is this the grandson of the Mickey Doherty that was interviewed by Alan Lomax in Convoy in 1951?
