I'm from Cape Breton lived not far from where Angus was born actually his brother was a teacher of mine .I don't know how many of his original records exist but I'm sure its very few for a few reasons one being when he recorded very few in CB could afford a record it was in the early 30s and second any one that did have one I'm sure it would be well used or wore out .Anyway to get to the point I was living in Kamloops BC on the other side of the country you could say I couldn't get much farther from CB .Well I used to go to this one thrift store to buy bags of used towels to use for everything from cleaning my dogs feet after a hike to cleaning up spills in the garage .One day I went in and sitting there was a box of about 20 old records still not priced I said to the lady can I look threw them she said sure well the first one I found I for sure wanted was by AA Gillis on a celtic Music company record Antigonish NS well that got me digging and the heart pumping a few records later there it was Angus Chisholm Decca in mint shape recorded around 1935 record number 14004-A and B Ellzabeth Mellett [ its spelled ] on piano .I kept looking hoping to find another but no luck but did find a record another one on Decca Alick Gillis [ its spelled ] and his Inverness serenaders .I still have them 14 years later I keep them well protected I don't know how many more you would find especially in this shape in all Canada its amazing that I actually found them so far from home some 5500 + kilometres and in mint shape I wish i knew the story behind their voyage and it was the best money I ever spent she sold me all 3 for $3 and what was so funny was after I bought them and picked up my bag of towels and paid for it I told her about the records and the story behind them she told me she was never there but her family came from NS also years before from Antigonish the very place AA Gillis's record was recorded .My A .Chisholm record has on Side A ; Moonlight Clog and Hennessey's Hornpipe and Side B ; Rothermurches Rant , Braes of Auchertyre , Braes of Glencoe .
Look closely at the record label...Celtic Music Co. Ltd. Antigonish, Nova Scotia. That is where I am from...And damn proud of the Scottish heritage from here !!!
Thank you for sharing. My grandfather, Jack Chisholm, was Angus (and Archie Neil’s) eldest brother. I would love to get my hands on this recording. I think Angus was the first (with Decca I thought) to do a recording of that distinctive Cape Breton fiddling.
I was glad to visit Cameron Chisholm and play for him - all the way from Scotland. His mother made a fish dinner. It was a cloudy day and I asked if she had a Gaelic word for that. She said “gruamach” which was pretty right.
Angus Chisholm is my uncle. He was born and raised in Margaree Forks, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. His ancestry is Scottish.
Some say he was the best - unarguably ONE of the best.

My favorite Scottish fiddler, and he wasn't even Scottish!
2300 skiddoo yes.i agree.
Oh but he was! As Scottish as if he’d been born in Scotland .
I don't know if even the great neo-classical band Deine Lakaien can match this work in terms of sheer, authentic-classical hauntingness.
Weird ass reference. I looked em up and that pretentious pseudo-deep shit doesn't hold a candle to Angus period
Was this Fella Archie Neil s brother from Margaree?
@@iluvcanmore22 Yup.
