"King of New York" - my favorite gangster movie of all time. So underrated. In my opinion the best one Chris Walken ever did after "Deer Hunter". He's great in it. ❤
I love his insights about how discovery and characters are more important than commercial design; like the slickness in "King" was his way to prove he could make that kind of film. Love it when he says: "Yeah 'dey never shut up about it, but I'm not making money on it. The fact that they rented the same VHS tape 500 times doesn't help me."
a prequel to the king of new york about a crew in Canarsie that actually existed - he's talking about the Demeo crew at the Gemini lounge - muder inc of the 70's/80's ... sad he's probably not gonna make it - could be amazing if Abel did it
@@nikitamcconnell8027 Werner Herzog directed a movie with Nicholas Cage. The studio made him call it Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orelans and the director of the original Bad Lieutenant, Abel Fererra, got upset for not being asked about it or included and had some angry words about Herzog. But they were able to talk and 'bury the hatchet' ie settle their differences.
@@MelancoliaIAccording to Herzog it was all a big joke to begin with, they were putting on a "play fight" for the media. The media is always in such a rush to get their clicks and views that they always take everything at face value, so they're easy to manipulate. Even when Herzog claimed that he'd never heard of Abel Ferrera, people never stopped to think "okay, that's bullshit". In fact Herzog asked the producers to change the title, and when they wouldn't, he insisted on the "Port Of Call New Orleans" subtitle.
Great director but I felt ashamed the interviewer's lack of common knowledge, they don't know who Gotti or Gallo is haha and the topic is King of New York
About interviewer not knowing who John Gotti was - americans will find that rest of the world is not fascinated with criminals or murderers/serial killers. It’s exclusively american thing👍
Abel is a cool dude and he makes cool movies

Everyone thinks of Chris Walken as a gangster actor but this is the movie that cemented him as one of the best.
Facts!

Basically it's a movie with all bad guys, from the perspective of a bad guy with a goal.

I love Christopher Walken stories. "I know what you want and I can give it to you. " Then leaves. That's classic. Great movie, and director.
If she doesn't know John Gotti, she definitely doesn't know about crazy goat joe!!
Wow this interview is 1000 times better than his interview he did with Conan back in 1996😂.
