I'd like to thank each and every one of you who take the time to watch DtC, and am very grateful to everyone who takes even more time out of their day to comment. In a perfect world Tom or Ob would be able to engage with everyone in the comment section, but alas the world is far from perfect. Tom doesn't know how (and refuses to learn) and Ob is something of a Luddite.

Q: I have a burning question about something in the video! What should I do?!
A: An email sent directly to Tom is the best way to get your question answered, because while he most definitely reads each and every one of your comments, he hasn't quite gotten the hang of replying to them in the comment section, and is not likely to in the foreseeable future. Or ever. Seriously, he still calls RUclips "the U-TOOBZ".

The veteran's gorget has me confused, in regards to the woman's name. The German Army ("Heer") used female auxiliaries in the First World War just as they did in the Second. But it's still odd, though, because if it were given to a woman who had been in the auxiliary service in the First World War, that would not be "50" years of service (or 50 years since her "Dienstzeit" or service time). I was wondering if "Charlotte Nordmann" was actually a place name (or district name, etc.) but since you know more about these than I do, I assume you are certain this was the actual veteran's name engraved in that spot. In any case, very interesting.
It also had the second engraving "Geb. Hill" (geboren Hill = Born Hill) which would be her birth name, and Nordmann would be her married name.
What is triple etching? Both sides of the blade and spine are etched? I’ve heard the term but never thought anything of it 😮
That’s correct, I’d say that most imperial period (fewer TR) etched swords are triple etched but like everything it was up to the pocketbook of the purchaser.
