I'm a contractor and I do renovations all the time but I enjoy watching this show because it's fun and therapeutic. Chip and Joanna seem like a nice and sincere couple and they do seem to make a great team. I know that this is staged "reality TV" but I think it's better than watching shows where people get in each other's face and milk the melodrama. But I know on some level it isn't real. All these things are edited and no one behaves completely naturally when they know they're being filmed. True reality TV would have to be done with hidden cameras and probably wouldn't be much fun to watch.
The person who made this video is just trying to make money off of Fixer Upper and the Gaines' family business. I have zero respect for that, especially since their form of "reporting" is skewed towards the negative and thus is worthless. As a professional journalist, I find that abhorrent and misleading. I think there are a huge number of great, positive storylines that come from this couple's hard work and entrepreneurship. They've build their brand and they've brought along many other local entrepreneurs and helped to build many other businesses, like Clint Harp and Jimmy Don (who makes the metal signs) and many others. And just think of all the people they now have created jobs for? I don't find anything this show does to be deceptive in the slightest. Chip actually does a lot of the work, and leads the construction teams and Joanna's obviously the designer. Frankly, they outshine the Property Brothers by a huge margin. Those guys could never create a brand since they don't do their own design work for the most part. and what they're doing is just copying whatever design thing HGTV is pushing at the moment. I find their brother bantering exceptionally tiring, and juvenile. I just don't get the sense that they really have an true understanding of family, and marriage and children. Neither one is married or had kids, and you just can't get that until you have experienced it yourself. I love that the joking around that Chip and Joanna do is just typical married couple humor, but they're also very good parents with a firm sense of child rearing and I really respect that aspect of their characters. I watch these shows not just for the design but a lot for the people on it, and that demands that they have good, quality character, and maturity. It's that maturity that seems to be lacking in the PB show. The Gaines' family will be around for a long time. I hope they consider doing a book or books on family, and values and how to live in this modern world with all the challenges we face. I love that their show is so ... calming and strong (and no stupid, fake competitions). It's very relaxing to watch and it focuses a lot on design which is what HGTV seems to do less and less these days.
When you think about it, Most people prefer their own taste in furnishings. They just prefer to have a new open concept to decorate to suit themselves.
These two are the only "renovation" show I can watch. Most other hosts go 100 % modern look, which to me is too sterile. Chip and Joanna manage to make a space cleaner looking while still maintaining a homey feel.
I'm a HGTV junkie, and this is one of my favorite shows. I love Chip and Joanna. Chip is goofy and lovable, but knows what he's doing on the construction side. Joanna is more business-like, and has a great sense of design and style. Their love for each other and their children is one of the reasons that make the show work. I see some commenting are disappointed that the house hunting is fake. Well, i went onto the HGTV.com site to see what the requirements were to get on the show. The eligibility rules state that you must have a home that you want to fix up or be in the process of looking for a fixer upper within 40 miles of Waco, and have a budget of at least $30,000 for the renovation. So the house hunting at the beginning may or may not be fake. Just depends on if the homeowners already found a place before taping the show. But to me, I really don't have an issue with that. It is still a TV show that has to provide entertainment. And viewers want to be part of the house hunting process. What I am surprised about is the fact that the houses are staged. So all of that beautiful furniture and decorations goes back to Magnolia unless the homeowners buys them. I always thought that the budget included the furniture and decor. Now it makes sense to me. On some of these shows (like Fixer Upper and the Property Brothers), when I look at the renovation budget and see all of these high end pieces and high end this and high end that, I wondered how they made that budget work. Now I know. The house is all staged. So the reno budget is just for the repairs/remodeling of the house itself and not the furniture.
What shocked me was that HGTV does not put money into the project. I figured the buyers put their money towards the fixer upper. I am sure people love Chip and Joanna Gaines. They are amazing and the work they do is awesome. They both are very creative and talented. Thanks for sharing.
SO EVERYONE THAT IS CLOSE TO "GOD"...IS GREAT AND GOOD.... HAS ANYONE EVER STAYED WITH THEM TO SEE HOW THEY ARE OFF CAMERA!!!??? I BELIEVE IN GOD!!! LOTS OF PEOPLE BELIEVE IN HIM.....
+Cam D. Relax dude. A lot of people believe in God. Having a relationship and believing are 2 totally different things. Also, following them around?? A little creepy. And no, they're not perfect. Nobody is. Ask them and they would say the same thing.
If any of the furnishings shown during shows 'final' reveal are included in stated up front project/reno cost I would be surprised. ex. rehab addict, income property, mike holmes productions, ....
Lydia Ann Thank you!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 finally somebody said it not to mention they raised the prices on everything especially property taxes in the area 🤦🏻♀️ they’re just doing way to much in 1 place.
I always love watching FIXER UPPER whenever possible. This couple always make me laugh due to the comic Chip and Joanna's interior designing. They are a wonderful couple and so inspiring on how they involve their kids. They find time playing games with their kids. --- From Western Australia.
They're fake on all those house hunting shows. The homebuyers have already chosen a home before the whole process starts. HGTV is just creating a scenario and adding the drama for the benefit of the viewer. Apparently it works. House Hunters is in its 114th season! (I can remember when it first went on the air in the late 90s. I'm getting old. Sigh.)
I am hoping the new season will be less repetitive. Last season, every house looked the same to me. Same light, pastel off white colors; same white kitchen cabinets with marble tops. - AND enough with the shiplap walls that they stopped using in the thirties because wind blows through them- yuk!
Sucks that they renovate it and make it all so totally cute, then when the camera stops, half the cuteness gets moved out. Would love to see how the houses really look when the owners move all their own furnishings in, lol!!!
This is my favorite show right now! Love her style, Chip is hilarious! They seem to be family oriented and living as much of a simple lifestyle as they can while being HGTV stars
I love Chip n Jo! I live in Dallas and really love that tx feel! Also they bring love, light and heart to the show. They're a real family and the kids are so cute! I'll keep binging.
I love Chip & Joanna. You just smile when they come on the screen, and you feel their love for each other. The homes are always so beautiful at the end. I want to go to their B&B. Long live the shiplap!
I would like for this show to be a 1-hour format with much more detail about the remodeling activities. They seem to give short shrift to the actual remodeling efforts and that, to me, is where you can learn the most for those who might want to DIY. Great show, though. Far better formula than, say, Property Brothers.
Well Whitney, what I'm trying to say is if for example a couple has a $70,000 renovation budget - moving walls, taking out walls, plumbing, gutting kitchens and bathrooms, taking out walls moving rooms, painting and landscaping (not to mention hidden defects) is not going to cost $70000. How could you possibly do all that for $70000? For example, the $25000 kitchens they display look more like $50000 kitchens.
Majority of the project cost also goes into appliances and countertops for the kitchen. From what I seen on shows like property brothers they can get deals. I seen this episode of property brothers where Jonathan was working on the kitchens and the homeowners manage get top of line stove and other kitchen appliances for a really good deal. I think it's was free but I can't really remember. I think the homeowners knew the person. Anyway 70,000 can go quick especially with add on. It actually I think it's less because they have to factor in a contiguity plan. My home first floor is being remodeled including the kitchen. We just hit our first snag the plumbing.
I'm guessing Chip and Joanna don't charge for their own labor, which could get pricey in a normal home remodel. I'm also guessing they know where to buy the materials at an excellent price ... maybe buying in bulk for several homes? If the home doesn't look good, they don't look good.
And Waco, is also the home of Baylor University(a christian university), headed by Kenneth Starr, notorious for covering up rapes and assaults on women!
While the school will certainly be embarrassed and suffer repercussions, I cant imagine any future physicians will suffer a whole lot. Academically it is still a top notch school.
That's ridiculous, not famous for any of that, that is just your opinion, no facts to back any of that up at all. Don't let personal politics taint the truth.
Baylor has long been considered one of the better schools...no it is not Harvard or Stanford...but still a solid degree. Harder to get into than most state schools for the average kid.
gotta say it. For a designer who has a television show, her decor is noticeably lacking in TELEVISIONS. The homes make great sets but do not convey the idea at all of real family spaces. And as popular as "open concept" seems to be, the merging of the inevitable clutter of a family room and kitchen stuff with attendant noise is better in concept than in reality.
I live in Waco and know many people who work on the show. I also know a lot of people who've had their houses shown on the series (including my employer). Chip and Joanna are solid people with a solid family, but you can sense how incredibly stressed they are. They've been pushed out of their church because of tourists, they took their kids out of public school, and they rarely ever leave the house except for work. I recently ran into Joanna with the girls at Heritage Creamery (a local ice cream shop) at nearly 11pm. You could see on her face that she was incredibly stressed. It's likely the only time she saw her kids all day. Word of advice: if you ever feel like visiting Waco, please enjoy our city. The whole city wants you to feel welcome and wanted! But if you happen to see Chip&Joanna, please don't bother them. They're just people and they need their privacy.
love this show! I'm happy to hear Waco is now a positive environment because of them. if I didn't have family here in Az. I would go and check Waco out to live. I hope Waco is working on a tiny home community....
Waco is meh. I live near where they do. They had to take down their Magnolia Farms entry arch in front of their house driveway because people kept stopping on the busy highway to take pictures.
Has inspired me in my lowest moments. Dreams can come true I live alone am 70 now and am selling my 3rd fixer upper. Now I just want to find a forever home. My prayer is that it will happen while I am still able enjoy it. A small home in a close community where church and friends are only wish. God bless you and your family.
What I find confusing, is the couple has a budget. Johanna designs the home using every cent- with the exception of saying at the end she has X Amount of money left and gives them a choice of 3 options. The couple chooses one, and without a doubt, Johanna has to go back and Ask for more money due to an " unforeseen" project. Just forgo the 3 options & use that money !,
Because she's a designer! I look at real estate listings everyday and its unbelievable how people live. Most of the homes have ugly, worn out, dated things that to the owners may be sentimental, but the rest of us are gagworthy.
If someone renovates my house I don't expect them to purchase furniture when I already have it. It would be different if it didn't cost more than they are already paying. Being a designer has nothing to do with it. A designer also designs the layout of the house. Actually, someone is working on my house now. They are not going to go buy me furniture. I have furniture.
Mary, just to let you know, the buyers are told this up front so they know to expect that. This is a TV show that is intended to show design ideas. If you want to film your own renovation with your furniture, go ahead and put it on youtube.
Every town in the US has there issues, with respect the Media/ Government (feds) does not help. I believe there is more good people than bad and we as in whole need to see beyond the TV, Media and Federal government blunders. City Of Waco has a good partnership with HGTV in helping with new PR overview of its city. Good luck keep the faith.
So Very True!! I've seen Many properties on this Show that I wouldn't mind renovating and living there. The only reason I would hesitate is due to possible severe weather elements. :-)
I can honestly say not once watching the show have I ever wondered what Joanna's ethnicity is. She's a dark-haired woman married to Chip. both obviously American. What's the deal? How is it even relevant what her ethnicity is? Maybe if it was a show about immigrants to the US..but it's a renovation show...so...duh.
well, I seen some of the stuff is custom made for the home buyer that Joanna uses to stage the house, so I wonder if those things are just gifts from her or the buyer has to buy those things too?
More Americans dumbing down I'm not sure if they are ignorant, or just don't care--probably both. My friend always say's " I should have went." Drives me nuts, but he will never change.
I've been to Waco several times and always liked it. I was saddened that a place I had fond memories of had those horrible things happen. I can look at Waco in a positive light again.
My wife and I watch the show every chance we get. We love how corny Chip is. And we appreciate the magic they produce for the show in the reveal. I'm a bit disapointed about the furniture part of the show. That together with with the remodel is what makes each home stunning. We like the style of Fixer Upper so much that we did a faux shiplap wall around our fireplace for a feature wall. It is alomst complete with the mantel we are having made for it. I will be putting a picture on Face Book soon upon completion. In case anybody is interested.
I had forgotten all about David Koresch and Waco?? What does that have to do with this fun show and this adorable couple?? People just can't be happy unless they're being negative.
Anouncer im this clip talking about David Kuresh but your a fuck'n moron idiot wtf he has nothing to do with The show Fixxer Upper I'm a contractor and I love Chip and Joanna Gaines
*TROY KELLER* Did you miss second grade? It's "...people move beyond THEIR mistakes..." and "DON'T let THEIR past..." (notice the apostrophe in don't) and "... dictate THEIR future." Don't tell me it doesn't matter. I does matter. It makes you look stupid.
Most surprised that the furniture was for camera staging only. Although, we often wondered how it could be included for the stated costs. Especially when those numbers already seem terribly low compared with what we're used to on the west coast.
This show grew old very quickly. The designs are all the same "rustic chic". Even the mid-century modern redo was "countrified". I don't understand the popularity at all. But that's why I quit watching it. He is very annoying to me as well.
If I was getting my house done by the show I'd hate to fall in love with all the furniture & decor then told nope you can't have it fork out another $200 grand and then you can keep it! It's a tease!!
This "untold truth" is not accurate as a title. Joanna's Korean mother has been on the show and that information has been available online for sometime. This is a refreshing show with a nice approach to helping people select a home to remodel. Joanna and Chip bring a very down to earth approach to HGTV. I continue to be amazed at how much extra effort she puts into the final details of getting the home ready for the owners to view.
I love this show have it on T-Vo. I think it's fun and refreshing. They do a great job and I appreciate all the work and effort they put into these makeovers. I have yet to see a make over I didn't like! I can't say enough good about it!! :-)
I love the episode with the Army veteran, whom the footballer requested your help to do over, the end result was just fabulous and making the couple so happy.
...I'm guessing that by being on the show, you might have a better chance of staying on budget and on schedule. The cameras are rolling after all, and that costs money. Besides, it wouldn't look very good for Chip and Joanna if they did a crappy job for all of America to see.
Exactly, +Mega MindyLou! Though my guess is the homeowner gets the use of Chip & "JoJo" at no additional, so you get the design element of your home reno for free? You essentially just pay for materials and the SUB-contractors - maybe... =/
I agree with you. HGTV should be paying the home owners. They are getting the talent, location and expenses for nothing. Does HGTV give the design help at no cost? She is a good designer and he seems to know what he is doing on construction and is she using her store products hoping the home owners will buy her furniture and props after the reveal.. I don't like the fact they are not telling the truth about picking the fixer upper in the first part of the show. Since this is not a game show they are allowed to not tell the truth.
Don't be absurd, why would they pay home owners to fix up their property? They must be hundreds of thousands of people buying/fixing up property and they only do a handful of shows each year. Nobody's house is so special they need to pay someone to fix it.
Why make what's arguably TWO of the *most* stressful events in life - home buying & renovation - even more so by adding public scrutiny; have to accommodate another's agenda; legal encumbrances, etc. if not for some kind of compensation? Idiocy and masochism aside...
I love the video. Most interesting was the fact that many home owners already own the fixer upper that they want remodeled. In addition I did not know that the furniture did not stay. Great video.
And as for the couple, Joanna is smart, charming and talented. Chip, on the other hand, is a middle -aged jock who loves mirrors, is obsessed with his hair and seeming convinced every sophomoric notion that crosses his mind would be of interest to the audience
So true. People who ask about people's ethnicity are racists and will never admit it. They always say 'oh we are just curious'. Dig deeper folks, why are you curious? Its because you want to put someone in a box so you can 'prejudge' them and thus the foundation of prejudice. Oh and I love this, "oh I got Chinese friends too" or "oh I love Jamaican culture' and yet that person might not know a single Chinese person or Jamaican nor speak the language. Its the most shallowest and stupidest question ever 'oh what ethnicity or race are you?" I just respond "the human race' and watch their faces....'No seriously, what are you?". Stupid.
+MooseTactic yes but I get asked that question multiple times every day and they don't even see that I am human, just a color or race or ethnicity. I incorrectly assumed that mankind evolved beyond that. again ask them why they are curious and it gets deeper to an uncomfortable truth about why they really want to know. "I'm curious" is a cop out and automatic response.
sheetonyu You just put your original comment into different words and then added your personal experience. I was pointing out that the behavior you condemn, you also seem to be practicing in a different manner.
I watch HGTV at least 6 hours a day and this is my favorite couple. I second Kurtis Erikson''s comment. I absolutely love Fixer Upper, great entertainment and is so nice to see Joanna and Chip.being so natural and loving. Specially Joanna and her minimal make up, Chip so genuine and his sense of humor. Great Show! Great couple! Go Joanna and Chip...you have tons of fans out here :)
I definitely don't like fixer upper. I hate how they do the same style of house ALL THE DAMN TIME. It's never nothing different. Also when they are on the screen together you could tell that Joanna is irritated by chip on a regular basis. also Joanna and one of the construction workers (the guy that builds things out of wood) seems like they'd be flirting with each other. Chip seems like he loves Joanna more than she loves him. plus chip acts a little...special too. It has to get annoying for Joanna to tolrant all the time. I bet you Joanna is cheating on him on the low
I realize this comment is from a month ago and I'm responding now but, why would you post something like this? With all the crap going on in this world today, why does it make it okay to be negative toward a couple who seem to be doing alright? True, we only see what we're shown on tv, everyone has their "issues", but just because they're on tv does that make it free game for people to spew negative comments in regard to their marriage? The only way they MUST be surviving is that Joanna MUST be cheating on Chip? Step back. Re-assess. Check yo self before you wreck yo self.
Love the show and thank you for the background! I too wondered about the great furnishings that define the space and if that was part of the deal. You didn't mention their adorable kids and the family dynamics but that adds to the appeal of the show.
No one in Texas mentions Chip and Joanna when they think of Waco. And no one outside of Texas does either. It's always David Koresh and the Branch Davidians. Waco is southern version of Detroit. Avoid it.
Nobody in your circles, maybe. But how often do you even think about home decor, or HGTV, or home renovation? I would bet the answer is never. Texas is a huge state and we've got all sorts of folks. Waco's outside religious nuts are long gone and those who dwell on it have other agendas. Texans have moved on. The only people I think about if I ever thought about David Koresh is Janet Reno, the FBI and Bill Clinton, who can count the disaster there among that Administration's many disastrous blunders.
The facts that surprise me is that HGTV throws in money for landscaping and that the furniture inside the house is just for staging and the homeowners may or may not keep it. I thought it was picked ahead of time by the homeowners and just placed in the house for them to see how it looks in the final revealing. I love Chip and Joanna. They have a great relationship and they definitely complement each other! And I love the show! What amazed me is the price of the fixer uppers in Waco. I live in the northeast and cannot fathom that a house can cost under $50K or that you can get a mansion there for $125K!
The clients already having to have chosen the property before even applying to the show? And then viewers presented with other fake properties for entertainment purposes? And then the clients not getting to keep the furniture clearly displayed, without further payment? Is extremely misleading and borders on fraud. I don't care how many shows do this! They're just as misleading if they do it too! Also, I hate the setup of every episodes "Gaines Family Activity" with the kids and then it being conveniently interrupted to go deal with clients. Fake!
Absolutely love the show and Chip and Joanna. Who cares if the furniture doesn't stay you people already spend less on housing than most of the world. Average cost of housing similar to the show cost $275 to $400k where I live and that is before renovations. KEEP THIS SHOW GOING IT IS FUN, ELIGHTENING AND ENTERTAINING.
Here's the untold story: ruclips.net/video/BcxoGzOwjEA/видео.html Per that video, they rip off homeowners, leave them with an empty set of an unfinished house, and the homeowner pays for everything. I hope that family wins their lawsuit.
I love this show and the entire Gaines family. Chip and Joanna interact seamlessly and I love how much they love each other and their kids. Their kids are so darn cute ! I also enjoy when they show up to help momma before she stages...she has the magic touch. luv luv luv her designs! Chip is genuinely funny... not like, ahem, some guys who think they are funny and are not. Keep up the great work - continued much success to you and your family!
These two are such a wonderful example of love, honor, and respect for marriage and family. They are genuinely good hearted people and it is refreshing to see. May God bless them in all they do. ❤
+Angel Greb: I don't agree. My nationality is where I was born and by ethnicity I identify as Vietnamese. So yes a person not born in Japan can surely identify as Japanese.
Every time I hear something about Waco I think about the acronym 'We Ain't Comin' Out'. I used to live not far from Waco and we used to call it that all the time.
This is the worst 'design' show on HGTV . . and that's saying something since they also air 'Flip or Flop' which is almost equally horrible. The designs are always the same; beige and gray, gray and beige, and painted brick. If it wasn't for this show, this 'designer' would be out of work!
I thought so too, but you also have to realize a lot of their clients are acquaintances and are from the area and like a lot of the similar designs. Also if people are moving in, they request those Texas farmhouse designs. There's a few episodes where they don't follow the same format, but most do.
+SkyWardDude Look, if you want to appeal to the masses, you are smart to stick to neutral tones. Do you not know this? Have you ever sold a home? Also, they are clear that their style in "farmhouse". So you either like it or you do not. Do not judge other people's style.
I live in Canada and the only way I would ever consider purchasing a home in the U.S. (no offence) would be getting a home in Waco and letting them do their thing! Grab a $50k home and toss $100k at it to have it look THAT amazing! To do what they do, here, would run in the $450,000 and up range.
Fixer Upper is a great show, but, it is sad that the decor for the homes are just borrowed and not part of the permanent end look. As for Waco and the it's image, it will take a lot more than a cute home improvement show, to erase the memory of the massacre of the Branch Dividians and David Koresh, by the Feds. It is a shame that the whole town has ended up with a bad reputation, but, overall, we all should remember that day, as well as the biker incident, as neither incident should have ended the way they did. If Fixer Upper is helping to heal the image of Waco, then that is all good. Perhaps 3 or 4 other 'feel good' shows, filmed in Waco, might help Waco's image, that much more. =)
hahahha, gotta love it when people show their ignorance!! Waco is supposed to be ashamed because a freak chose to build his freak show there??? If you are so stupid that you think a town or city is tarnished because people commit crimes there, you are too stupid to know how stupid you are!!
+Kevin Lew nope. That's Texas for u!! We don't just have more, we get more here. Seriously, I don't know how people can afford to live in some of those other places. But to each their own!!!
Allenna Rogers I might be ignorant of Waco, Texas, as I have never been there, but, ask most anyone, who has never been there, what comes to mind, when asked their opinion of Waco. Usually, the only thing that they know about this city is what they read in the news. In Waco's case, killings are the only thing that they know of. For such a small city, it sure has had more than it's fair share of being up front and center, for two seriously horrible crime scenes. So, Allenna, my question for you is......Are you from Waco? I hope not. If you are, I now have an impression of some of the people there now, because of you. I am getting a picture of a town of people, who are so full of themselves, so much so, that they can only point fingers at others and call them ignorant and stupid. I always thought that most Texans were raised better than that. I had the impression that Texans have good manners. Please prove me wrong about you! =)
I'm from Waco. It has its flaws, but it's got nice people and some of the area is just breathtakingly beautiful. I think the worst part about our bad publicity is that the two events in question were not perpetrated by people from Waco. The big cult house happened in the country outside of Waco and the media just got sloppy and assigned it to the biggest city nearby. As for the biker gang shooting, the bikers weren't even from Waco. It was their half-way meeting place. It's like Dallas only being remembered for the JFK assassination. Just a nutjob doing his thing in a place he isn't even from and scarring it for the rest of time. Fixer Upper shows Waco how it really is: a good place with good folks that needs a little elbow grease to make it shiny and new again.
I was at a doctors office with my Wife and had no choice but to watch this show. They claim he is a contractor but he can't even swing a sledghammer lmao.
Isn't this the couple who attend the anti-gay church and are caught up in the controversy of gay hate on HGTV which has a great population of gay viewers? The boycott of their TV show is strongly underway and for HGTV to release them from their programming list. If hate is resulting from the aspects of their personal private lives then this couple shouldn't be allowed to promote it with a TV show...even if they never mention the fallout of hate on their show which includes school bullying, physical assaults on adults and children suspect of being gay, suicides and attempted suicides, murders and attempted murders, and the outright destruction of families.
+Joe Stubbernubbensteingenson And you're one of the reasons why this show will be removed from HGTV. With supporters like you being so vocal HGTV will understand how this couple is in fact propagating potential harm to innocent people. Your comment just supported my comment. Thanks for coming out...and letting your "shit hit the fan!"
curt childress and they aren't anti gay they just don't think they should marry and their show isn't nearly as influential as you are painting it out to be
curt childress I honestly don't care if they do cancel it. If so, I'll just stop watching HGTV. Thing is: not everyone agrees with your fanciful accusations of "hate" and melodramatic allegations of "potential harm" [to people's feelings]. As was indicated by the last election, it turns out there's a whole lot of people who favor traditional values, instead of progressive bullshit. You can grab your rainbow flag go protest if you want.
I like to watch this show because they are one of the very few (if not the only shows) that portrays a positive view on TV. Not that big drama that all shows have. These host (hubby & wife) are always smiling, having fun, & enjoying each other's company - even after spending the entire day together. I wish I could see more TV shows like this one.
Nothing surprises me ,,except that I'm always surprised.........I love Joanna's style ,although I live in a condo , I keep wishing I could hire them as anything they do I admire......I could literally walk into most of their design places , bring my two cats and sit down and put my feet up....I just love that homey sofistacated style.....it's me in a nutshell...txs a million....Donna N
I was so scared this video would ruin my ability to watch my new fave show! Thank god Chip & Jo aren't another Tarek & Christina. I love how sweet he is to her and she seems like such a nice lady. Love this show.
I'm a contractor and I do renovations all the time but I enjoy watching this show because it's fun and therapeutic. True reality TV would have to be done with hidden cameras and probably wouldn't be much fun to watch.
And Chip really does work hard on the projects off the camera unlike the twin brothers and the LOLI pair.
So true!! At first I was bummed when I watched this. But then I read ur comment and I feel better. That's a wonderful insight!!
The person who made this video is just trying to make money off of Fixer Upper and the Gaines' family business.
Im a contractor to Kurtis and feel same about Fixxer Upper
Clint and Jimmy do awesome work, don't they? I would love to have some of their pieces in my house. :-)
The thing that suprised me the most was that they don't get to keep the furnishings.
+Monique Jenkins Bryant well they can keep the furniture if they pay for it. They can not expect to get it free.
+TheValvacious really i thought it was includrd in their package ( when they said all in price) but hey nothing is free
+Monique Jenkins Bryant i think property brothers work the same way.
When you think about it, Most people prefer their own taste in furnishings. They just prefer to have a new open concept to decorate to suit themselves.
I loved the program until Chip ate a cockroach and he showed it through his teeth. Way too gross for me. Can't watch it anymore
These two are the only "renovation" show I can watch. Most other hosts go 100 % modern look, which to me is too sterile. Chip and Joanna manage to make a space cleaner looking while still maintaining a homey feel.
Try watching home town !! On HGTV. I almost am starting to enjoy there makeovers and show than fixer upper.
They don’t lol
I was surprised to find out that anybody cared what Joanna's ethnicity was. I never even gave it a thought.
ikr! lol!
ikr! lol!
+Stacey Longshore
Lewis von Feline I must be getting old if nobody says SCHWING! anymore.
I never thought about it either. I just like them as a couple.
What shocked me was that HGTV does not put money into the project. I figured the buyers put their money towards the fixer upper. I am sure people love Chip and Joanna Gaines. They are amazing and the work they do is awesome. They both are very creative and talented. Thanks for sharing.
This video forgot to mention that Chip and Joanna have a strong relationship with the Almighty. Just FYI
+Greg Decker So that is why I like them so much!! I always know how to pick 'em!! :)
SO EVERYONE THAT IS CLOSE TO "GOD"...IS GREAT AND GOOD....
HAS ANYONE EVER STAYED WITH THEM TO SEE HOW THEY ARE OFF CAMERA!!!???
I BELIEVE IN GOD!!!
LOTS OF PEOPLE BELIEVE IN HIM.....
+Karin Dunham Yep! I knew after about 5 minutes.... You can just tell.
+Cam D. Relax dude. A lot of people believe in God. Having a relationship and believing are 2 totally different things.
Also, following them around?? A little creepy. And no, they're not perfect. Nobody is. Ask them and they would say the same thing.
Greg Decker Amen brother!
Shiplap shiplap shiplap.........did I mention shiplap? I'm surprised they don't have a kid named Shiplap. Lol
Or magnolia
Let's see ...... Shiplap Gaines. Poor child would get bullied.
+Gerard Way's Hat Lol listening for either one of those words would make a great drinking game.
Honestly, I had never even heard of shiplap before this show! lol
Maybe they should call it CHIPlap! lol
I was surprised that the furniture was NOT included with the cost of the updated home...Great Show!
No joke!!! Hgtv is making plenty of money from this show. They could pay or work their magic and get that stuff donated.
If you like fiction, it's just fucking fine.
If any of the furnishings shown during shows 'final' reveal are included in stated up front project/reno cost I would be surprised.
ex. rehab addict, income property, mike holmes productions, ....
Furniture might be included on other shows but the cost to be on the show is a lot higher! Some shows have a minimum reno budget of 100k.
But these people probably already have their on furniture. So while the staged stuff looks nice, they probably still prefer their own stuff.
I live here, and I've gotten say, Magnolia is WAY overrated. The Silos are not worth traveling as far as a lot of people do.
Lydia Ann Thank you!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 finally somebody said it not to mention they raised the prices on everything especially property taxes in the area 🤦🏻♀️ they’re just doing way to much in 1 place.
T Alvarado id like to hear from somebody who lives in one of their houses that the Gaines have renoed!
They drove up the housing costs making locals having a harder time finding affordable housing and too many out of state people moving in
I always love watching FIXER UPPER whenever possible. This couple always make me laugh due to the comic Chip and Joanna's interior designing. They are a wonderful couple and so inspiring on how they involve their kids. They find time playing games with their kids. --- From Western Australia.
I like the show....disappointed that the opening house hunt is fake
Me too
ME TOO.......
I didn't know that part was fake. Makes me wonder what else if fake.
Sigh.)
Be glad it's fake as I'd hate to believe that these people are actually giving in by paying "asking price" for a home. :-)
I love home renovation shows, and this is one of my favorites
Theyre so cute. I want a relationship like this.
+Maggie Klein yah, let's give it a try.
+mizzymolly a
they just seem to be a nice couple American family
Maggie Klein me toooo
I love Chip & Joanna. You just smile when they come on the screen, and you feel their love for each other. The homes are always so beautiful at the end. I want to go to their B&B. Long live the shiplap!
Let people believe whatever they want. I applaud Joanna and Chip!
Great couple....so blessed. I hope they live happily ever after.
Iowa p
Amen!
I would like for this show to be a 1-hour format with much more detail about the remodeling activities. They seem to give short shrift to the actual remodeling efforts and that, to me, is where you can learn the most for those who might want to DIY. Great show, though. Far better formula than, say, Property Brothers.
I admire this couple and their love of family. A good sense of humour and hard work goes a long way to success.
I really don't understand how they can do those kind of renovations with the budgets they have.
They have work with the budgets they have. In other words work within their means.
We just hit our first snag the plumbing.
it is a reality tv show
I'm guessing Chip and Joanna don't charge for their own labor, which could get pricey in a normal home remodel.
I am sure he will get a nice severence package..fuck him, but hey , I guess the female students there appreciate his double standard.
He still is working at Baylor just changed jobs and is still collecting checks. That's the Waco way.
So I guess you're the expert in all of this where is your show?
We are big fan from Australia. They are Great ♡
I live in Waco and know many people who work on the show.
Waco Sucks...Always has.......Always will.
Waco is meh. I live near where they do. They had to take down their Magnolia Farms entry arch in front of their house driveway because people kept stopping on the busy highway to take pictures.
Waco is a dump in the middle of a state that is hotter than Hell.
I might have to move there! ...San Diego is draining my income and life!
I just watched one of their shows where the couple was moving from San Diego to Waco. It's probably on demand and it's a show from this season.
Johanna designs the home using every cent- with the exception of saying at the end she has X
Amount of money left and gives them a choice of 3 options. The couple chooses one, and without a doubt, Johanna has to go back and
Ask for more money due to an " unforeseen" project. Just forgo the 3 options & use that money !,
Now, why doesn't she just stage the home with the owners own furniture?
Lol guess YOU have brand spanking new nice looking stuff that you would want to show the world on TV?
Jane, I can have an opinion without putting on a show. Why are you so defensive?
Love it "what is your Nationality", and I like it when people answer "American, JUST LIKE YOU". It is a stupid way to ask "what is your ethnicity".
Jmichael Isbell Ack! Funny question for me, then they are U.S. citzen. So brazil and mexico citzen Americans too!
Every town in the US has there issues, with respect the Media/ Government (feds) does not help. I believe there is more good people than bad and we as in whole need to see beyond the TV, Media and Federal government blunders. City Of Waco has a good partnership with HGTV in helping with new PR overview of its city. Good luck keep the faith.
hmmm! I really liked everything you said and is true!
So Very True!! I've seen Many properties on this Show that I wouldn't mind renovating and living there. The only reason I would hesitate is due to possible severe weather elements. :-)
+San47di
true! and same
+San47di
true! and same
Sal, you're an idiot
I can honestly say not once watching the show have I ever wondered what Joanna's ethnicity is. She's a dark-haired woman married to Chip. both obviously American. What's the deal? How is it even relevant what her ethnicity is? Maybe if it was a show about immigrants to the US..but it's a renovation show...so...duh.
I love ,love these two. I didn't know the furniture wasn't part of the Reno hummm... I often wonder how all that works.
well, I seen some of the stuff is custom made for the home buyer that Joanna uses to stage the house, so I wonder if those things are just gifts from her or the buyer has to buy those things too?
Well, she's in business to make money probably not free especially if they don't purchase the furnishing
I believe the "proper verbiage" is "I SAW."
See, Saw, seesaw... :)
Carol Lynch what happened in Waco?
I love the work of this couple and what a beautiful family!!
the only thing I don't like about their designs, is a theme of painting bricks white. Why have bricks, if you're just gonna paint over them ?
I despise painting brick
That's to give it a pop, because to me a plain old red brick is so ugly but too each it's own.
Well said.
Anouncer im this clip talking about David Kuresh but your a fuck'n moron idiot wtf he has nothing to do with The show Fixxer Upper I'm a contractor and I love Chip and Joanna Gaines
Sometimes people move beyond there mistakes Micheal Hersey , Dont let there past dictate there future,
*TROY KELLER*
Did you miss second grade?
It's "...people move beyond THEIR mistakes..."
and "DON'T let THEIR past..." (notice the apostrophe in don't)
and "... dictate THEIR future."
Don't tell me it doesn't matter. I does matter. It makes you look stupid.
Jacquelyn King he was just talking about how fixer upper is changing Waco? Jesus Christ
I love her designs! She's awesome!
Funny show, they make some good money with that business model. Good for them.
Most surprised that the furniture was for camera staging only. Although, we often wondered how it could be included for the stated costs. Especially when those numbers already seem terribly low compared with what we're used to on the west coast.
im pleasantly surprised that most of this was positive
Subway tile and distressed furniture.... you've seen one show you've seen them all.
lol yup.
+Jorge ship lap....French doors....and some shit that ALWAYS has to be dealt with and will cost the people around 10 grand or less.
And 99% of the kitchens have an island added
***** read above
everyone gets a sliding barn door for their bathroom also...ugh!
This show grew old very quickly. The designs are all the same "rustic chic". Even the mid-century modern redo was "countrified". I don't understand the popularity at all. But that's why I quit watching it. He is very annoying to me as well.
Watch you two whenever I can and learn quite a bit. THANKS.
Love this show.. Love that they are a faith based family !
I love these guys.. 😍
That's right my brother tell him!!!
Surprises me the show doesn't have a budget to spend on the house? Then why be on the show?
...I'm guessing that by being on the show, you might have a better chance of staying on budget and on schedule.
I love the show, but say Waco, and I STILL think of David Koresch first
+Jennifer C Me, too, but I think it may depend on age. Those of us 50+ remember Waco/ Koresch -- those younger have no idea what happened there.
oh my yes! Im 42, but I'm feeling old right about now haha
W-A-C-O We Ain't Coming Out.....that was the joke at the time of Koresch.
It didn't even happen in Waco.
THE WACKO FROM WACO!!!!
And as for the couple, Joanna is smart, charming and talented. Chip, on the other hand, is a middle -aged jock who loves mirrors, is obsessed with his hair and seeming convinced every sophomoric notion that crosses his mind would be of interest to the audience
Who cares about her ethnicity??? That never even passed through my mind......
Stupid.
+Philip Lobrano I definitely know that. I wear my bacon cologne quite proudly. but the people on this show ain't them.
That's a sweeping judgement of millions of people who have asked one question.
Avoid it.
You speak the truth.
I have to agree with you on that!
Fake!
Hands down THE BEST show on HGTV.
Chip is hilariously funny 😂
JoJo is smart and sophisticated!
Love this show.❤️love this couple❤️
I actually love fixer upper
Absolutely love the show and Chip and Joanna. Who cares if the furniture doesn't stay you people already spend less on housing than most of the world. Average cost of housing similar to the show cost $275 to $400k where I live and that is before renovations. KEEP THIS SHOW GOING IT IS FUN, ELIGHTENING AND ENTERTAINING.
love,love fixer upper!!!! cutest couple!!!
Here's the untold story:
ruclips.net/video/BcxoGzOwjEA/видео.html
Per that video, they rip off homeowners, leave them with an empty set of an unfinished house, and the homeowner pays for everything. I hope that family wins their lawsuit.
I wondered about all the furniture and accessories they fill the houses with. Now I understand: For Display Purposes Only!
I LOVE THIS SHOW, THEIR KIDS ARE SO WELL BEHAVED & POLITE. CHIP & JOJO ARE SO FUNNY,
These two are such a wonderful example of love, honor, and respect for marriage and family. They are genuinely good hearted people and it is refreshing to see. May God bless them in all they do. ❤
Love this show !!!
S Hale 50 million dollars
Love the show and we always watch! 💕😊👍🏼
I thought she was native american
I too thought native American, she is pretty
Japanese and Korean are both Asians. Unless you're born in Japan, you aren't Japanese. Unless you're born in Korea, you're not Korean.
And if you are born in America you are American????
+Angel Greb: I don't agree. My nationality is where I was born and by ethnicity I identify as Vietnamese. So yes a person not born in Japan can surely identify as Japanese.
You can identify as a cat, for all you want to. But you are Asian, and not Vietnamese, unless you were born in Vietnam. Sorry. That's law.
Every time I hear something about Waco I think about the acronym 'We Ain't Comin' Out'. I used to live not far from Waco and we used to call it that all the time.
I like that one better than the one for Iowa......Idiots out wandering around.
Why does the wind blow so hard to the south in Iowa?
Because Kansas SUCKS!
Jack Minehart Or perhaps it is because Iowa blows? lol ;)
Right? I agree 100% if u search for 'colorful fixer upper homes' all u see is gray, white, beige, blah and blaaah
yes, because that sells easier and is a safer color
na haha flip or flop is even worse their title is already enough to tell you that they suck bc it's always a flip pretty much -_-
I live in Canada and the only way I would ever consider purchasing a home in the U.S. (no offence) would be getting a home in Waco and letting them do their thing! Grab a $50k home and toss $100k at it to have it look THAT amazing! To do what they do, here, would run in the $450,000 and up range.
I love them,they'r so cuuute!!!
And I live that show, very nice!!!!
I'm not surprised by any of these. HGTV now says their shows are Entertainment TV not Reality TV and I find the honesty kind of refreshing.
Every house they do looks exactly the same. They are a one note song.
Exactly what i think
This is a very educational show too. I learned some good do and don't. And the power couple makes even more fun to watch. Good job :)
I too am completely shocked anyone cares about these two. I gave the video 40 seconds. I'm more interested in the comments
No surprises. Just thrilled that Chip and Joanna are finally getting some much deserved recognition.
Do you suppose thats why the houses are so cheap?
Yeah, that's what I heard... with that in mind, I'll be watching every episode, and buying the t-shirt.

And you're one of the reasons why this show will be removed from HGTV. With supporters like you being so vocal HGTV will understand how this couple is in fact propagating potential harm to innocent people. Your comment just supported my comment. Thanks for coming out...and letting your "shit hit the fan!"
curt childress 1st amendment rights bro
curt childress and they aren't anti gay they just don't think they should marry and their show isn't nearly as influential as you are painting it out to be
curt childress I honestly don't care if they do cancel it.
The show just makes people feel good and the designs are beautiful.
Am I the only one? Joanna reminds me of Lucy Liu which is a very good thing?
I like to watch this show because they are one of the very few (if not the only shows) that portrays a positive view on TV. Not that big drama that all shows have. These host (hubby & wife) are always smiling, having fun, & enjoying each other's company - even after spending the entire day together. I wish I could see more TV shows like this one.
I don't like fixer upper homes but I would love for them to come fix up my house.
Hi everybody!
Jack Minehart For your information asswhole, I would love for them to fix up my house. Go sit your ass down somewhere.
?
+Jack Minehart, trolling much? Leave the woman alone and go find something else to worry your pea brain about!
The Childfree Curly Girl Thank you girl.
Her "industrial farm" style is tired. But I think that she can come up with something else.
I was most surprised to learn the furniture is on loan......but of course what would the buyers do with all their old furniture?! Love this show!
I am so tired of Chip acting so stupid! He acts like a kid and needs to grow up, he isn't funny and he ruins the show! Grow up Chip!!
well for the last time can y'all please leave Chip Gaines alone he just being himself and if it annoys y'all so much just don't watch the show.
@@donnalee3845 people are allowed to have different opinions. Stop attacking people for every negative comment. Wtf
I didn't attack anyone I said what I had to say, it's just my opinion which I'm entitled too.
Whaaat, you don't get to keep the furniture!!!! It figures, and I wondered, but it still is a bummer.
wife likes the show...........I HATE IT!! He's a duff. Hoping HGTV is making him act that bad. If they are? Writers need to be fired.
I was so scared this video would ruin my ability to watch my new fave show! Thank god Chip & Jo aren't another Tarek & Christina. I love how sweet he is to her and she seems like such a nice lady. Love this show.
