Wow, what a day of planting such big beautiful trees, Does anyone else see an elegant Victorian lady in the weeping white spruce? 23:43 You seen her head with big fancy hair upswept as she is looking down at her hand touching in front of her. Her tiny waist and then her really full skirt. I think I might have to call this one Lady Victoria! Great job as always! Loved the slow motion of the soil coming off the auger! Always informative, fun ( to see Benjamin helping to fill the soil in and place flags) and beautifully artistic! Thank you for the inspiration every day to make my corner of the world a better place! It really is! My garden is very small and I'm finding it really hard to add vertical interest without having things that grow really wide and take over. It's a bit paralysing trying to figure out what to put where when you have narrow flower beds and can't plant large shrubs or trees (but really want to!). I'm hoping to fit two dwarf fruit trees in and a couple of very narrow evergreens at the back for winter interest.

    • @coolwiz7994

Better to plant smaller. They grow faster, the root systems are still stretching their legs which makes the tree more prolific in the future and you get to shape it to your liking. I got a couple 24 inch box chinese elms last year and they would be sold as 36 to 48 inch box trees today. They have put on 4 feet of height and 6 feet of width and that is with pruning the triple d's off as well as for shape. Wait it out, it will be more worth it!

Thanks to your recommendation I just bought 3 autumn brilliance service berries. Trying to make my yard bird and pollinator friendly with mostly native plants and trees. I love the size they get, not too big, not too small. We have an ugly above ground pool that our neighbor put in the back corner of her yard with a big pool deck that she and her sister sit on and look out at my yard and house. It’s currently the focal point when we sit on our patio or when I look out my kitchen window. We are in the process of getting a 10x20 shed to help block out the pool and pool deck. While we’d like a fence, it’s not high enough to block the pool deck where they sit. My lot is only .33 acres and we are in zone 5b here in Upstate New York. We are hoping the shed positioned with the 20’ length with a service berry on either end will give us 30 feet of privacy. The service berries were $120 each and are already about 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The shed will be about 20 feet from the back of the property line. In the back 20 (75 feet wide) feet from left to right I have a small white pine I planted last spring (in the corner to block the pool deck when it grows) with two red twig dogwood in front of it, then 5 green giant arborvitae, and then 3 Norway spruce with 2 multi stem river birch in front of them. I’m hoping with all of the layering it will give privacy and a nice view from my patio and kitchen window. We also planted about 30 Dark American arborvitae on the left side of the property line leaving a gap for the white pine in the back left corner. I think my neighbors think I’m crazy, but I want my backyard and especially patio to be my private oasis. We are also planning to add a privacy fence along the right side of the backyard down the road. Thanks for all of the inspiration you give.

The centering is off, for sure. If you’ve seen an up-tick in dislikes, it’s probably others like myself having to re-select. So frustrating when you’re trying to show appreciation with a thumbs up.

Just watched a video again from back when house was new to you and you wanted a horse or sheep in this area but you had to persuade Aaron. You needed more animals in your life. Hope you get your sheep/
horse/another dog soon - the dog at the start suited you and matched your orang animal theme.

We have not had luck with Vanderwolfs. They die quickly. Our neighbors Vanderwolfs all died within ten years of planting.

You have a love for those daffodils like I do. I’m from a small town in East Texas called Gladewater. We have an 89 acre daffodil garden planted during the Depression by a lady name Miss Lee. Please look at Miss Lee’s daffodils in Gladewater Texas.

Benjamin in the hole--so cute! Every year when you bring in the big auger, you should dig a whole the same depth & put Benjamin in it to document his growth--Samantha Grace, too. It would be so much more fun & interesting than the standard wall measurements.

I am so excited to see the back garden being developed! Love all the changes, as you make it yours. I need a t-shirt that says, "Laura made be do it", as I hoard plants, and make new projects. That way when my husband asks, I can point to my shirt. :)

I’m hoping to get some evergreen trees planted on our property this year, sure would be easier if I had help with a big auger like that! Happy to see Benjamin show a bit of fear though, don’t want him to get hurt. He sure is a chip off the old block, your little gardener in training 😍 it made me smile when you put him in the hole😊 I sure am excited to see all of those beautiful trees in a couple of years, it’s going to be gorgeous! I hope you’ll still be making videos then!
