This is the best performance that I have heard on RUclips or anywhere else for that matter. The tempo and phrasing are perfect. Sharon Isbin is No. one in my opinion.
Don't argue over this beautiful piece and this beautiful Woman-it is very beautiful Guitar-Thank God you can hear such beauty and see such beauty-there is always somebody better and somebody not as good-wish I could play as good as Her.
Sharon plays this with so much feeling. Great tremolo and rasquedo style. Her execution is so relaxed and flawless., especially the softer passage in the middle.
I am learning this piece now and notice she is relaxed and lets her notes ring so nicely, has very disciplined left and right hands. In the pizzicato part that leads up to the harmonic on the 19th fret she plays what is a series of what I see as eighth notes as a series of two sixteenth notes. I like her version better. I like the way she effectively stretches and tightens the tempo for feeling and sometimes pauses between sections. It flows beautifully and it is like flamenco which is always passionate. I began taking lessons 5 years ago at age 58 and no doubt would like to take a few lessons from her, but I doubt my wife would allow it (the 'she's too good looking ' rule - LOL). Classical guitar was always on my bucket list, inspired by the vinyl records my parents played when I was young. I now put in 2 hours a day and look forward to retiring when I can put in more time. Sharon is a real talent and truly gives something to aspire to!

Although I recognized the piece, I didn't know it is basically the most famous piece ever written for classical guitar. I was blown away by her entire performance. Insanely good. Perfection. I LIKE the dramatic staging, fuzzy camera lenses. What I really appreciate, beyond the technical accomplishment she achieves with the tremolos, is how her intimate interpretation of the middle segments of the piece are brought out to become incredibly interesting instead of 'filler' between the arpeggiated portions. She challenges me, as an amateur guitarist, to try and bring out those as well. Thank you, Sharon!
Oh yes very good! I have just heard 10 different artists. Maybe your interpretation is one of the best. I have you always loved. (Your music) since I was young. One can see (hear), why you won the ARD Musikwettbewerb long ago. ! Great!
Sharon is my all time favorite classical guitarist. Her artistry makes me laugh, weep, rejoice. So much passion and grace in her playing. Like watching a swan float on a lake, just stunningly graceful.
Magical... Spectacularly intimate! There is a hidden magical realm in musics of all kinds that are completely glossed over with speed, technique, and virtuosity. It is a shame because these intimate treasures are the most emotional and empathetic music has to offer.
When does the beauty stop...... we need beauty to swamp the greed and exploitation. I could listen and watch all day.... wonderful and mesmerising. My blood pressure has dropped 30 points, I'm sure. So peaceful.
As past-guitarist, I love this piece, and I've listened to dozens of different musicians playing it... YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. Your interpretation is miles far away from the others. And the only one that gave me great emotions. My congratulations. The video is also very good.
Her artistry is evocatively nuanced with attention to the diminishing string sound, clarity and wonderful tempo. It would be a treat to know who crafted her guitar.
Sharon Isbin was a pupil of Andrea Segovia (the greatest guitar player, perfect, A METRONOMO, but metronomes have no heart .... !!). That's why the pupil has passed the teacher ..... !!!!! Some "perfectionists" will comment "too fast" is not true ... Sharon plays Asturias passionately and accurately, note by note, without jumping or making any mistakes .... It's the best performance ever listened ..... !! !!!!
I don't see how anyone can criticize this, it is played perfectly and the video itself it very tastefully and professionally done, personally, I really appreciate this video.
Iron Feliks I guess there are many different levels of accomplish guitarists . …. and this girl has certainly accomplished this piece ! I think if anyone one has anything negative to say …. it would probably be her manner in which she over does the drama in her movements . In other words she's not as good as she thinks she is ! Although this is just a video . I'd prefer just to watch her play without the ego !
jionnie I'm thinking that you might not know who she is. She really is as good as she thinks she is. In fact, to get to her level of perfectionism, she's probably more critical of her own playing than any of her critics are. I think that she's earned the right to display a bit of a stage persona, especially considering that she's one of those performance-crazy instructors at Juilliard who make it their life's ambition to foster similar passion in their students. She's inspired my kids, who started classical guitar at ages 7 and 9 respectively. They love her playing and classical guitar in general so much that they refuse even to pick up their electrics. They even play Metallica on their classical guitars. I don't know. If this woman can inspire two little kids to practice so much at such a young age (just as Messi and Ronaldo have inspired them in football), I say more power to her!
Iron Feliks I'll tell you how. She starts playing with mysterious arpeggio, making, let's say, me, wondering what is this going to be, creating ominous atmosphere, full of ambiguity. Adding bass strings make it even better. Then she puts some flamenco chords, breaking the feeling with more cheerful spice and then I think " oh, great another flamenco player, but maybe this time it'll be different" . But it turns out it isn't. Mandatory slowdown, mandatory fast bass addition to slow part. And feeling, that you're hearing something, you've already heard. After this wonderful prelude, my hopes were really high. Too bad for me, I guess.
Nothing mysterious about it, it was published in 1892 by a Spanish pianist and played by Flamenco guitarists ever since, it is the perfection of her form that is amazing, it is kind of like American blues guitar, invented down south and responsible for Rock and Roll, lots of people can play it but few really capture the gritty essence of a Keith Richards and these days, very few new Blues guys bring anything new to the style, this Flamenco lady pumps life into a style that many butcher.
For all dislikers: This is 15 times harder to play than the crap you are listening to.If you don't play guitar, then you don't know how difficult this is to play. Only extremely skillful people can play this, and Sharon is one of them.
I listened to concerto Aranjuez in my cargo van and liked the guitarist at every moment. I couldn't get step out of my driveway. I had to hear this master all the way. She played w/ the NewYork Philharmonic. She was not only a master guitarist but a profound musician. I couldn't believe I was hearing perfection in every aspect. She has to be Spanish.
since im a sound engeneer, and a classical guitarist i am almost certain the video and the audio were not recorded at the same time so i doubt that neither she or anyone else could play this good while lying on the sofa.
I was fortunate to see her in concert with my city's orchestra a few years ago. My mother and I had balcony seats, and this was during a time when my glasses were lost, so I couldn't make out Ms. Isbin's face very well. After a lovely performance mom and I left, and on the way out of the auditorium I saw a lady with a big guitar case walking up behind us, so I held the door open for her. When I was halfway to the car...
There are 3 types of people... One, who can play music... Two, those who can't play but understand and appreciate music... Rest, can't even appreciate a brilliant performance such as this
I very much love how 90% of you critics don't play guitar and yet critique her technique and playing capabilities. This was a perfect rendition of the song Asturias and Sharon Isbin ranks among the top classical guitar players in existence. I am certain that not one single person in the comment section can play to anywhere near her level, considering getting to this level requires decades of study and practice.
This is a great piece and she played it beautifully And I've been playing guitar for at least 4 years and this a difficult piece but when you get the hang of it, the shit people say doesn't even matter and I don't think she would care but good on you 😎😎😎
Really, there is no "perfect" version of this piece, I've heard lots of other versions, And a lot of them are played beautifully. Artists add their own personal touch to make it theirs own. Bars 63 through 79, she plays very softly and slowly. Where as in other versions the artist will play it at a kind of a medium speed. Also she emphasizes on accenting the low E in bars 17 through 25. I love it when artists add their own personal touch and I love it even more when it works so beautifully with the song. Music played "perfectly" is just sounds, when we add our own touch it becomes music. As a guitar player I flock to songs like this and listen to the different versions to draw inspiration and help me discover different ways I can play.
Carlo Croccolo SHARON ISBIN TKE BEST GUITAR PLATER IN THE WORLD....PLAYS ASTURIAS .....I did not even heard better played this MUSIC THANK YOU.......!!!!!!!
I've seen this song played by so many Guitarist from different cultures and races. From Segovia and John Williams to unknown musicians. Your technique, delivery and color of sound is very impressive I definitely can say the hours of practice definitely show. Congrats on such an amazing job.
JOAQUINMI101.
You play beautifully WITH SOUL AND PASSION of a woman - the gentleness you offer I have never heard applied in such a way to this piece - the contrast is Asturias past and present ... The sea, the mountains, the lakes, the small towns, the history, the suddenness of being in an unchanged place. The little things ...you have honored them.
Beautiful, I am trying to learn this song. I love way it sounds a little different each time a different musician preforms it. So far yours is my favorite. ;)
I have seen many renditions of this all over RUclips and in my opinion this is downright the best version out there, it encapsulates all of the delicate moments so perfectly that i'm not sure it can really be matched by any other version (and yes including John Williams as good as his is). To me, this is the definitive version.
At this level of expertise, it all becomes a matter of whose interpretation you prefer at any given time. Sharon, Ana, John, Andres...it doesn't matter to me. Each one's rendition is breathtaking to me. And I've been playing well over 50 years.
@@AlexandrosIoannides Vidovic is close in my opinion, when it comes to overall "Wow" factor. There are at least two videos of her on youtube playing leyenda. The newer one is the better one I feel. There seem to be some minute hick-ups in Isbin's version. No such thing in Vidovic's. However, the overall interpretation of Isbin, especially, how she explores the different dynamics, makes me, personally "feel" the music a little bit more than Vidovic's versions. Vidovic seems to combine John Williams' technical perfection (which, to me, completely lacks soul) with a good dose of emotional expression. Isbin is just a tiny bit less perfect, but I think (or rather feel), that she captures the emotion a little bit better. But it is down to personal taste, really. Speaking of personal taste, I like Virginia Luque's very aggressive, very Flamanco like version extremely well. ruclips.net/video/AZGwZeZGY2I/видео.html However, what is true for all three women in my view, is that they all play this piece considerably better than the much acclaimed John Williams. Did he play it technically perfectly and as fast as it can be played? Yes, but that's about it.
Asturias - Kingdom The Principality of Asturias, in northwest Spain, is known for its rugged coastline, mountain landscapes, religious sites and medieval architecture. Mountaineers, cavers, kayakers and walkers are drawn to the peaks of the Picos de Europa National Park, set above green fields and stone villages. The Covadonga Sanctuary to the Virgin Mary, patron of Asturias, sits in a cave above a waterfall. I was there to visit family August for 20 days in Gijon. I visited those places and fell in love with Asturias. I will return to the fatherland of my family and ancestors.
Amazing- googled her after looking at an ad in winter ‘17 Classical Guitar mag and pressed play... had to listen to the whole thing in Barnes and Nobles... well you have a new fan Ms. Isbin. Well played.
John William's version is wonderful. Full power, very steady, a tour de force. But this version is just as beautiful. Wonderful musicality, with a gentle rubato and great tone. Very dynamic performance.
Matt Sheeres John williams version is far more masterful than this and true to the original, it was completely flawless. This was still fantastic and top level though, but John Williams is something else.
very well played, although this looks like a pop mtv videoclip young folk dig, just chilling in my couch playing some albeniz in my flat downtown with some chairs piled up know what im sayum sup with all those lamps god damn
This is probably the best version I've found on RUclips. I can never master that transition from the seat to the couch though, so tricky.. Maybe one day!
Mistakes? Who are you? What kind of mistakes? It is a perfect performance. There was no mistakes at all. She hasn't destroyed the music with the technique as many others have.

Speaking of personal taste, I like Virginia Luque's very aggressive, very Flamanco like version extremely well.

However, what is true for all three women in my view, is that they all play this piece considerably better than the much acclaimed John Williams. Did he play it technically perfectly and as fast as it can be played? Yes, but that's about it.
@@AlexandrosIoannides Definitely !! She is unbelivable!
Great thought this is, I like Julian Bream's version best. So stop throwing around the word "definitive", you don't know what it means.
Asturias - Kingdom
The Principality of Asturias, in northwest Spain, is known for its rugged coastline, mountain landscapes, religious sites and medieval architecture. Mountaineers, cavers, kayakers and walkers are drawn to the peaks of the Picos de Europa National Park, set above green fields and stone villages. The Covadonga Sanctuary to the Virgin Mary, patron of Asturias, sits in a cave above a waterfall.
Area: 4,094 mi²
Capital: Oviedo
Population: 1.062 million (2014) Instituto Nacional de Estadística
University: University of Oviedo
I was there to visit family August for 20 days in Gijon. I visited those places and fell in love with Asturias. I will return to the fatherland of my family and ancestors.
Spain is unique in all aspects...

I don't know of anyone who plays (played) this piece as finely nuanced as Sharon.
WAOW!!! Brilliant!!! 💎💎💎👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰🥰
I couldn`t see her friends on the video. These must probably be the angels...
she has been one of my favortist guitar layers over many many yrs..God bless..rock on Sharon.
She has a bit of a rock and blues feel added to it. Great.
Wow! To Sharon Isbin's performance, and to Isaac Albeniz's composition!
Brilliant.
mam u gave me goosebumps...
The music seems a beautiful dream.
Amazing- googled her after looking at an ad in winter ‘17 Classical Guitar mag and pressed play... had to listen to the whole thing in Barnes and Nobles... well you have a new fan Ms. Isbin. Well played.
🎶 magnifique 🎶
Oh carry me caravan take me away .Take me to Portugal take me to Spain.
Andalusia, with fields full of grain.
@@giugnotorvo except that Asturias is on the opposite side of Spain than Andalucia

ThAnks dear Sharon Isbin ! Top performance! God blessings today and ever !
Mesmerizing, my brain is suddenly and completley out of body...
Just try Ana Vidovic for once
hermoso, magico de escuchar y ver!!! idola!!
Holy smokes !! Perfect and loaded with passion. Love.
this is the best interpretation i have ever heard she took this piece and made it her own and i love it !
Flamenco shakes the soul.
This NOT Flamenco! It is CLASSICAL !
Flamenco uses techniques like golpe that's not applied in classical guitar.
I am amazed and belive that you can’t play this music more beautiful. She gives the guitar such a rich sound with so beautiful colors.
Classical guitarists not only so-called classical. They play classical music, great music.
very well played, although this looks like a pop mtv videoclip young folk dig,
just chilling in my couch playing some albeniz in my flat downtown with some chairs piled up know what im sayum sup with all those lamps god damn
Angelo Amorim "Ah cool, someone left a guitar in this abandoned lamp storage facility!"
Adam Bice oh good , its a eleven thousant dollars guitar , perfectly tuned. might as well play some spanish music
Angelo Amorim hai ragione...Scusami..

Very some dream .I like you ! So much ! 😘
OHH I was just here 7 years later thinking the EXACT SAME THING, and then I saw my own comment LMAOOO this is too funny
An astonishing interpretation of this wonderful piece of music! Strong, accurate, quite masculine by some way but with so much feeling! I like it!
I was going to say aggressive but I think masculine is a better description, fantastic piece.

I've only discovered Sharon a short time back ,but I love her!! Looks and talent,it's a no brainer!!
Such Levitical musical beauty and technicality. Shabbot Shalom.
She played this at my school today. I got her autograph. I was the best thing ever.
This is probably the best version I've found on RUclips. I can never master that transition from the seat to the couch though, so tricky.. Maybe one day!
Decades of study my friend. I hear that some of the greats could go seat to couch to shower.
Mistakes? Who are you? What kind of mistakes? It is a perfect performance. There was no mistakes at all. She hasn't destroyed the music with the technique as many others have.
Just beautiful acoustics and flawless execution of this famous Spanish classical piece.
Bravo Sharon..you are a classical guitar god!
