    Prescribed Works (Set A)
    Gerald Barry's Piano Quartet No.1
“The quartet is a typical example of Barry's multi-sectional structures, each section being clearly defined by an abrupt agogic, dynamic or instrumental change or by the use of different material"
Gareth Cox, "The Music of Gerald Barry"
    Section E1
At bar 357, we have a canon in four parts, played at the octave and a quaver distance apart. The music of E1 is based on the retrograde of D2, but sounds very much like new material. It is as if in the middle of bar 357 a principal part of the music begins to rewind immediately.
