  • Former French Hillclimb Championship Winners, Pierre Courroye and his powerful McLaren Mp4-12C GT3, returned to action on a couple events during this difficult 2020 year, including Turckheim where we were able to catch them in action, while they beat the All Time Touring Car record of the event.
    With around 600Hp from the 3.8L Twin turbo V8, and featuring all the upgrades available for the model, this is arguably the fastest GT3 model in European Hillclimb Racing (the other one will be featured soon on our Channel...) beating many other purspose built machines and always right at the Top of the Overall standings. It is also quite the interesting machine to watch from inside as it really shows how a "state-of-the-art" race car from the Modern Era operates. Between all commands availabe on the steering wheel (and its strange format...) and the "racing-grade" Traction control, it makes for quite the unique viewing experience when compared to some of the more analogue machines we´ve shown on the Channel...

    That looked good! Without any crazy aero, this thing seems to have loads of mechanical grip. And I don't know if it is the car, the driver or both but the nimble way it darted into the corners and drew razor-sharp racing lines was satisfying to watch. No drama, very balanced. As they say, looking slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

      Asundramatic as it looks, this is one of the fastest Cars in European Hillclimb Racing outright. The clock doesn´t lie ;)

    You can definitely hear the tractional control working hard around the tight chicanes at end there.

      Also near the end he had this slide which may have been quite scary...the square wheel isn´t made for counter-steering, we´ll tell you that much....

      @@HillClimbMonsters always was wondering what was pros and against in circle vs square wheel. Why are there no square wheels in slower groups?

      @@divanosoba9658 my guess would be the slower steering rack ratio requires hand movement beyond the max 270ish degree range allowed when keeping both hands on at all times.

    Seems like the traction control knob could be better placed for "thumb jog" action instead of taking the entire hand off the wheel

    The onboard view looks almost comically fast compared to other videos. Is he going that fast or is it the fisheye nature of the camera? Or maybe a bit of both? Also, this car looks and sounds so understated from the outside compared to a lot of the more custom builds.

    • @HillClimbMonsters
      @HillClimbMonsters  3 года назад +2

      The combination of fish eye lens and the fact it was captured originally at 60fps (many of the onboard clips the teams let us use are normally captured at 30fps or 50fps). Also it truly is a mega fast car ;) Remember the run we show here is the fastest ever done by a Touring Car on Turckheim...

    I wonder if, for this application, there would be any benefit in using a more modern McLaren chassis and engine as a baseline to build your car.

    • @HillClimbMonsters
      @HillClimbMonsters  3 года назад +14

      Hard to say. Modern Supercars have so much electronics that when fully stripped out and given the "race-car" treatment they become unbelievably hard (AKA too expensive) to set up and tune. It´s a strange thing where they are built to be super fast on streetable tires, while being manageable to drivers who may not be racing drivers but what we come to find out is that such a formula doesn´t normally produce great bases for racing cars...
