  • One of Rambler's best selling points was that the buyer got much more luxury than they were actually paying for. This presentation pounded that belief home to the salesman, who could later recount these points to prospective buyers.
These presentations were delivered on a filmstrip, which the display person would advance manually every time the accompanying 16 inch transcription disc beeped. There were a small number that had embedded FSK signals to advance a system automatically, but those were short-lived, because they weren't as reliable as the manual way.

I bought a 59 from my grandfather's estate. It was a pretty decent car for what it was, but I still liked my Studebaker better. The push button transmission selector on the dash did throw me. Took a bit to find the start butter the first time. FWIW, I think Edsel had the same thing but never drove one so not sure about that.
The biggest thing I didn't like was the automatic transmission. I preferred, and still do for that matter, a manual shift.

"...the new, wide, distinguished-appearing grille.." Not really distinguished, but distinguished-appearing.

The new steering wheel and dash looked safer...only trouble being the lack of standard seat belts and a steering box placed at the FRONT at the end of a solid column!

Film strips are cool. Beep. We used to see these in school all the time, but not Rambler film strips. My Mom drove a Ramblers for a couple of years, but not one of these really cool ones. Hers was a 65 Rambler American.

Being broke-down on the side of the road is not elegant. Rambler..lol
