    It's so easy honestly. Ive had full house tradfri for years and it's very simple.
    Glad you got there in the end. It does work. Its a great system and great value

    The reason it makes a sound when you turn it on/off is to shut off/turn on the flow of electricity very fast, so it will not have this "beam of energy" flowing in the air, if you know what I mean. It does this by slamming the connections together very fast. Same as turning it off, it quickly shoves it away to cancel the connection.

    I had the same issues when discovering the plug. I found you had to ask Alexa to do it and not use the Alexa app.

      You see- that’s what worked for me too! How strange!

    I paired this with a Samsung Smart Hub. If you read the instructions it is easy to pair. It is a bit large but the price beats the competition.

    If you have the Alexa plus you can add these plugs by searching for new devices whist the plugs are in pairing mode. It took me about 5 minutes to set up three without the tradfri hub.

    Hi Stu, I don’t think you enabled the ikea tradfri skill in your Alexa app? , then you don’t need to do any of that fiddly bit, I’m sure, try again, Paul

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Paul, definitely had the skill enabled - The rest of my house is ikea TRÅDFRI, so have had Alexa support and skill installed since day 1... I’m afraid it’s just fiddly full stop! 👍.

    • @paulmaine
      @paulmaine 5 лет назад

      Stu’s Reviews oh right, I must say they are fiddly , I used a different method of adding the plug through the app and that worked ok, but that blooming steering device does my head in lol 🥴, especially the dimmer one every time I move it the lights come on, otherwise overall I like my set up now, 20 devices including the 3 steering devices, I would have used all home kit but the expense, with an echo dot in every room and home pods in the lounge it’s a nice set up 👍😁

      @@StusReviewsUK Hi Stu, what Echo do you use in your video to setup the plug ? This Ikea is a Zigbee plug so you must be using an Echo with a *hub* (Echo Plus, Echo Show 2 , Echo 4...), right ?

    great video however am i being stupid. you plugged the stag head in and asked alexa to change brightness and it did so it clearly works with alexa. you then go on to see if it works with alexa. why ?.im new rto this so im sorry if i sound stupid

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  3 года назад +1

      The bulb is different to the socket. The socket doesn’t control the brightness, it just controls the on/off.

  • @justinholmes5614

    Pairing my first Tradfri gadget was infuriating, a good 2 hours of shouting and swearing at the little round thing.
    It’s been good as gold ever since and I’ve added 4 more bulbs to the system.

    • @Balquo_
      @Balquo_ 4 года назад

      Round thing meaning the controller? If so, how did you get it paired in the end? I'm still having trouble....

    BUT: in Denmark, the plug IKEA sells doesn't work with our national standard! They market the international Schügo plug, but we actually use a different one in DK. So - they actually cut the plastic of the plug from an IKEA lamp with a knife to make it fit into the IKEA smart plug in the warehouse!! Very unsafe and absolutely not recommendable! Try again, IKEA!!

  • @tomholton235

    Would have been good to see the switch designed to go with it. Mercifully TRÅDFRI is easier to set up with HomeKit than Alexa so I’ll probably be picking up a few of these when they enable HomeKit on the plugs. I’ve always bought a steering device per bulb but if you use the steering device to set up multiple devices is that steering device stuck turning them all on and off at the same time? Cheers

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  5 лет назад +1

      Nope, you can drag it from group to group in the TRÅDFRI app, which then controls just that grouping of lights! I’d say you only need one steering device per room (as an ideal setup).

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  5 лет назад

      As instead of the 3/2 prong? Could you not just use a 3/2 pin USB adapter that comes with most devices, or does it have to be direct?

    • @TankEnMate
      @TankEnMate 5 лет назад

      @@StusReviewsUK sorry, i wasn't clear, as in i can control the socket with a wired usb connection rather than relying on wi-fi or bluetooth, preferably controllable from my computer by my own code.

      @@TankEnMate you can just use an Arduino (or some sort of microcontroller) and a relay, those are really easy to code and use usb, you can even connect multiple relays to one board

    First of all, please do NOT insert sharp metallic objects into mains powered devices. Life's too short... Second, we use the Hive mains plug which seem incredibly reliable.
