I made the huge mistake of not giving Laura’s music a chance. I listened to this album for the first time yesterday and I’m so annoyed at myself that I could have had it in my life for an extra 7 years! ❤️ stunning!
I've been following Laura since the start, more or less. This was the album that made the biggest impression, but she actually lost me a bit with the couple of albums after the album after this one (but I also listened to other types of music, I guess); I loved her last album ~
@@RayasNegroOvejas same but I loved her latest song for my daughter. Sounds like her earlier albums like Alas, I speak because I can and a creature I don’t know
For fuck's sake, my eyes've never been so glued to the screen (or moist at the end of a 14 minute journey)...raw, gorgeous, genuine, present. In love with 'er soul....
Yes, it is like a mini album of its own. Though it's not like there is any drop off in standard with tracks 5 & 6!! And the last four tracks are just as epic (and the final track returns to some of the tone of these first four songs).
Okay, I suspect that Laura a little too quirky to be a superstar like Joan Baez, but she is such a unique talent that she may nonetheless be the best female voice out there in our time. Wow, just wow. She is like a Shakespeare of music. I cannot take my eyes and ears off this video. Complex and compelling.
Take a look at her older live stuff. I think that it is much better than some of the new stuff. She seems like she has lost something. Not sure what. She is so melancholy now though. I still think that she is great She has talent. Real talent. No autotune needed with her.
And yet modern music will not allow such talent to be big. We prefer the pop slop [yes, you can use the line] that is called American music to any real talent. Laura is a real talent, not some manufactured talent, like almost all pop music.
Ron Mimnaugh It's all opinion but, apart from one or two songs, the old stuff is positively shallow compared to this. Real emotion and catharsis here, plus the music is so well constructed and complex. This album is on another level from previous stuff. Amazing!
+Victor Edwards Not to worry, five HUGE albums before 25, she is a great gift to this generation as Joni Mitchell to hers... Laura M is a musical force...One day people will wake up and recognize this incredible talent and start throwing Katy Perry and Kadashian craps out the window...
I sometimes think I'm hearing a female Lou Reed, especially in the deadpan spoken sections, then its Joni Mitchell, then Joan Baez, and then, most times, it can only be Laura Marling. As an aspirant guitar player and songwriter, I am taking lessons every time I hear one of her songs. :-)
cannot cannot get enough of Laura... its scary..to watch this kind of intensity... god I love this record.. HAVENT LOVED A RECORD LIKE THIS IN YEARS.....
I was never really into Joni Mitchell, for some reason or other. I just did not like her voice very much, and found it difficult to get beyond that fact, even though she wrote very many, really great songs. Timeless classics, I suppose some would say. She always sounded so miserable to me! Really dreary! Very musical, 'tho. Like, some people always moan on about how awful they find Bob Dylans voice. I always really liked it. Love Bob Dylan! Anyways, Laura Marling is just something else. So talented. Brilliant. So emotive, evocative, meaningful, deep. One of the greatest singer/musician/songwriters ever. Without a doubt. I fucking love her, man! xxx.
Such a captivating performance from the most hauntingly talented musician I've ever heard. Her genuine smile after beginning the same verse again in "You Know" is one of my favorite parts.
+ConfusingWarbler She's amazing, and you truly must check out her earlier albums! 'A Creature I Don't Know', 'Alas I Cannot Swim', and 'I Speak Because I Can' are all truly mind blowing.
You're in for a real treat, then. Over the past 6 years, I've been consistently floored by this woman. Check out her other albums. She is, quite simply, a genius.
Wow! Absolutely gobsmacked! Lost for words, humbled and awed. I can't stop listening to your voice. Thanks so much Laura. What an inspiring and beautiful individual you are. I hope you can feel the ocean of love all around you.
She was 23 then and with absolute confident and honesty gracing the performance. Laura Marling is stunning in many ways- look, lyrics, confidence, and she is only 23 !!!! She is a musical force for this generation.Don't show this to Cyrus and Perry and Gaga, they will slit their own throats!!!!
lisasfanno1 Led Zeppelin. One of the most highly influential musical acts in western music. I don't know if you're playing around with me, but you should check out some of their music like Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir.
Yes, I have listened to and have been in awe of Zep and they have been one of my favorite rock bands since their debut in 1969, i fortunately saw them in 1970 (although very under the influence at the show) and still play their music on both my guitar and stereo to this day....Pagey is a GREAT guitarist and has commented favorable on Laura Marling's playing as well (she has covered his music on record)! Speaking of excellent female players, check out "Aya Guitar" on Facebook, a 15 yr. old Canadian guitarist who can play Jimmy Page's complex solo's note for note!

Such a wonderful live version of the opening of her latest (and best?) album. I think she just keeps better as a writer, singer, instrumentalist. The segues are so subtle. I'm so glad I discovered her near the very beginning singing "Your Only Doll (Dora)" on "From the Basement" singing lyrics a woman of vast experience would and looking like a shy 17 year old.
Compare what she was doing at this age compared to all the shit nominated for Grammy's. It's a disgrace to our intelligence what passes as music these days. Almost everything nominated for a Grammy is here today, gone tomorrow trendy simplistic immature junk. Laura is wise beyond her year with a great mature voice and powerful lyrics. And it sounds great!
Okay that's weird even by my standards. I looked her up on Facebook and was about to follow her, but just as my cursor was hovering on follow, she sang, over and over, "don't follow me." Outstanding performance, but wow.

This album is pure and sincere.. i love it!
She just makes it LOOK natural. Vocalists can tell how careful and calculated she is in her performance. Masterful.
This song is the past 4 months of my life.
The sound of that guitar is insane
When your paying £2000 + it ought to sound decent :D
Looks likes a D28. I want a Martin so badly ahhhh
She's so chill and contemplative. Her mind is like an infinite galaxy and her soul is as deep as the ocean.
It's so amazing to watch her play live. She does it so naturally.
I remember a record "Semper Femina" that I lost but it was so good. I am so glad I find her back.
For fuck's sake, my eyes've never been so glued to the screen (or moist at the end of a 14 minute journey)...raw, gorgeous, genuine, present. In love with 'er soul....
I love the first four songs on Once I Was an Eagle. There is a sense of continuity and changes of emotions. Just perfect.
Yes, it is like a mini album of its own. Though it's not like there is any drop off in standard with tracks 5 & 6!! And the last four tracks are just as epic (and the final track returns to some of the tone of these first four songs).
Totally effortless and perfect
Honestly cannot get tired of the music, the lyrics, the voice, thank you for the music.

Victor Edwards is say she's one of the best voices of our time regardless of gender.
she is the stars by which I navigate
I sometimes think I'm hearing a female Lou Reed, especially in the deadpan spoken sections, then its Joni Mitchell, then Joan Baez, and then, most times, it can only be Laura Marling. As an aspirant guitar player and songwriter, I am taking lessons every time I hear one of her songs. :-)
WNYC has the very best live recordings of Laura Marling. Thanks for posting!
cannot cannot get enough of Laura... its scary..to watch this kind of intensity... god I love this record.. HAVENT LOVED A RECORD LIKE THIS IN YEARS.....
How is she so perfect
I did not live until i watched this video.......WOW!!!! I love this girl
I was never really into Joni Mitchell, for some reason or other. Laura Marling is good... no words can explain her other then good.
NOT EVEN EXCELLENT ?
Such a captivating performance from the most hauntingly talented musician I've ever heard. Her genuine smile after beginning the same verse again in "You Know" is one of my favorite parts.
Wow. Just what we need. Hope to hear many more hours of this.
Love this. Why have I not heard of this person until tonight?
+ConfusingWarbler She's amazing, and you truly must check out her earlier albums! 'A Creature I Don't Know', 'Alas I Cannot Swim', and 'I Speak Because I Can' are all truly mind blowing.
Because you created it .
was playing the air bongos half way through Take the Night Off
Actually love this suite! Saw her live and it was unbelievable!
I listen to this at least once a week. Obsessed. Laura is such an underrated artist
There is such a strong emotional background to the story of this song and you can see that when she plays
Good lord. This is simply stunning.
Laura is unique & captivating...just marvelous!
wow. This woman is amazing.
Excellent, wonderful and beautiful! Every time I see this it makes be happy
Oh Laura, you beautiful, poetic soul
You're in for a real treat, then. Over the past 6 years, I've been consistently floored by this woman. Check out her other albums. She is, quite simply, a genius.

Superb! Britains best singer-songwriter - well done Laura.
outstanding...just brought me to tears with such beauty.
almost can't cope with how incredible she is. Saw her play a solo show last night and was completely transfixed by every note and word.
Beautiful as always
I saw her play these songs about 3 feet from me. It was awesome.
My god, this is a good video.
She was 23 then and with absolute confident and honesty gracing the performance. Laura Marling is stunning in many ways- look, lyrics, confidence, and she is only 23 !!!! She is a musical force for this generation.Don't show this to Cyrus and Perry and Gaga, they will slit their own throats!!!!
she only just turned 21 in february of 2016, darling.
TRY 26 DUDE ! LOOK IT UP !
Actually, she was born in 1990, so she is 26 :)
Don't forget about Beyoncé even worse than the 3 you mentioned.
she makes me sane
Kinda Joni meets Zep....world weary beyond her years, this talented bird's singing/playing blows me away and back!
Alan Zieben Joni meets Zep. That's accurate.
+Alan Zieben jimmy page rates her ,say no more ,she covers bert jansch , kinda get to know her influences
+Brine~Breath ok, what's Zep. I need to know!

album once i was an eagle is a bit special
+jim hutchison more than just a bit ;)
With a lump in my throat I declare that she cannot ever reach these eagle heights again. But I would be happy to be proved wrong :)
I loved that album and still do. A lot of people didn't like it as much as her other ones.
it's my favorite
My favorite poem 💜
Very cool. Beautifully performed
It's so quietly beautiful
Incredible.
Masterpiece.
sultry deep and captivating voice and a damn excellent guitar player. Love her music!
Kill bill with the kindness of your sweet voice Uma.
most beautiful
You should be gone beast
Be gone from me
Be gone from my mind at least
Let a little lady be
I don't want you to want me
Wouldn't want you to know
I don't care where you've gone beast
I care where you go
Take the night off
And be bad for me
Take it right off
And be bad for me
You're a night bird
Early riser
You have a kind of wing
To take her and surprise her
I didn't understand where you had gone
Didn't know you'd be right back
I didn't hear the night song
Calling for you into the black
Take the night off
And be bad for me
Didn't ask you to save me
Not when you knew me well
Wouldn't ask you even to behave for me
I know there's no help in hell
Take the night off
And be bad for me
Take it right off
And be bad for me
....
So your grandmother sounds to me
A woman I would be proud to be
And you say she reminds you of me
Every little boy is so naive, oh
I will not be a victim of romance
I will not be a victim of circumstance
Chance or circumstance or romance, or any man
Who could get his dirty little hands on me
So your grandfather sounds like me
Head up, shoulders back and proud to be
Every little girl is so naive
Falling in love with the first man that she sees
I will not be a victim of romance
I will not be a victim of circumstance
Chance or circumstance or romance, or any man
Who could get his dirty little hands on me
When we were in love, if we were
When we were in love
I was an eagle
And you were a dove
Today I will feel something other than regret
Pass me a glass and a half-smoked cigarette
I've damn near got no dignity left
I've damn near got no dignity left, oh
I will not be a victim of romance
I will not be a victim of circumstance
Chance or circumstance or romance, or any man
Who could get his dirty little hands on me
When we were in love, if we were
When we were in love
I was an eagle
And you were a dove
When we were in love, if we were
When we were in love
You were a dove
And I rose above you and preyed
......
Damn all those people who don't lose control
Who will never take a foot out of life
You might not think that I care
But you don't know what I know
And damn all those hippies
Who stomp empty footed
Upon all what's good
All what's pure of the world
You might not think that I care
But you don't know what I know
And bless all those mothers
Who do all they can
Just to take their thoughts out of the line
I might not know what it's like
But I'm glad that you know
Give me a minute there
Just a minute now
It'll come back to me
I was so sure but you,
Freewheelin' troubadour
You took my mind off the scene
And you know when I know then I know
I know that you know
You asked me blind once
If I was a child once
And I said I'm really not sure
How can you know, how can you know
What it is, you don't know
We were a pair once
Of oh such despair oh
We were a child then I'm sure
If we were a child then
We are children no more
Give me a minute there
Just a minute now
It'll come back to me
I was so sure but you
Freewheelin' troubadour
You took my mind off the scene
And you know when I know when I know
I know that you know
You know you know you know when I know
I know that you know
...
You came here to tell me something
I already know
The dark before the dawn
Is the darkest I can go
The calm before the storm
Is what leaves me here to breathe
So breathe
Us of constant banging
Throwing fists against the wall
Screaming at the earth for what
It's done to one and all
I came here to tell you something
You already know
Just breathe
Breathe
How cruel I am to you
Cruel things I do
How cruel you were to me
How cruel time can be
I wrote you a book
But I left it out in the rain
Left it there to dry
But it got rained on once again
Us of constant banging
Throwing fists against the wall
Breathe
Breathe
How cruel you are to me
How cruel time can be
How cruel I was to you
How cruel the things I do
When you wake you'll know I'm gone
And where I'm going there's no one
So don't follow me
Whatever you may hear or see
Don't follow me
Whatever you may hear or see
When you wake you'll know I'm gone
And where I'm going there's no one
So don't follow me
Whatever you may hear or see
Don't follow me
Whatever you may hear or see
SOULJAH
LAURA MARLING DARLING !
Awesome , love this
What a pleasure...no one better :D

GOOD SHIT !
truly good shit!!!!!!
somebody keep handing laura more half-smoked cigarettes. i like where it's taking her voice
hahaha, that won't help her to Breathe though!
brilliant
Man, she's really loving that D-28 lately
A Master.
Laura is the ultimate babe and I love her
love is a 4 lettered word
This is prime.
Pour déjeuner en paix
В самое сердце 🏹 🖤
Huge talent, voice not dissimilar to Annette Peacock.
EVERYTIME I LOOK AT HER I THINK ................ JOAN OF ARC
She sounds very very much like Joni Mitchell and that is a good thing in 2014, because music should be made by the young.
Wow
does anyone know what guitar she's using?
He's no ordinary 'fella' matey. :)
Its not unusual to know what guitar the lead singer of your favourite band uses, especially if you play guitar yourself. x
just a kiss on the cheek
It looks like she's re-living each memory as she sings the lyrics. Makes the lyrical depth of most music just seem embarrassing.
doubtful, she'd love that D28 more than some old fella! But like your thinking ;) X
She reminds me of Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell, only better. :-)
This cameraman 😂
i wish i could put in so little effort and be so good at something.
If i'm not mistaken, I believe that was the guitar of choice for her ex boyfriend Marcus Mumford. Perhaps she's feeling nostalgic.
Jodie Mitchel?
Joni Mitchell?
