When your essay is REALLY BAD at Oxford University... SAD

- Just a chat about how I felt after getting heavily critiqued in a tutorial with an essay on Spanish Medieval Literature at Oxford University. I genuinely felt that it was not worth carrying on with y studies for a while but I took action to change that and I now feel so much better.

Points to take home:
1 - you are not infallible (how refreshing this must be to acknowledge that you do not have to always be great at what you do);
2 - it is ok to feel sad, when we sit with that sadness it can tell us things that are quite invaluable, such as "it is really tough to always have your s... together";
3 - it is not about making the sad part go away, it is about acknowledging it, sitting with and feeling into it; then moving forward together. We cannot think or act our emotions away;
4 - it was not the feedback that was really bad; it is the way it made you feel. I wonder if you could extend any gratitude for the learning that not connecting with 'your voice' in this essay has brought you;
5 - your mum can be a pain in the neck ;-)
6 - agency comes from connecting with yourself, friends and the wider world, feeling a sense of validation even from the bad weather while coxing.
Thanks Arthur for this upload. My daughter is a first yr at Worcester as well (lives in GH next to the Sultan Nazrin) and is 4 weeks in. She is currently finding her feet with it all, experiencing the good and the bad of Oxford study and life. Listening to your honesty and clarity is really helpful and to hear you turn it around so positively in your mind is brilliant. I've shared your vid with her to remind her that you Oxford lot can't always be the rock star scholars you all are.

It’s all part of learning young man. You will be fine. No one is borned knowing everything. Your tutor is there to make you better. Don’t feel it personal.
Kudos for moving forward so constructively. Learning to take criticism is a hard thing, but an essential lesson if you're to continue to thrive and learn. If you ever fancy a chat, I can tell you how I moved from feeling like a hard critique was the end of the world, to finding it my favourite part of the writing process...
You are so cool the fact that you are learning languages is amazing enough. I feel like no one can be 100% perfect all the time, but the fact that you’re actively trying to do better is such an inspiration. I come to your college library from Magdalen college every Sunday literally hoping I bump into you! You’re so cool and so smart. I’ll always believe in you 😊

do you have to write the answer to the essay in english or spanish? also could you share the title, or the title of another essay you've done, just interested to see what the questions are like at oxford.
We answer literature essays in English. The essay title for this assignment was: Discuss the historical narrative of Poema de Fernan González in relation to its ideological and propagandistic goals.
