If you just want to play only genesis games then not really. The one thing you would be missing is stereo sound as the genesis 3 is a mono only machine.
that ^ plus it's incompatible with the Sega CD and the 32x. You can get stereo sound using the 3BP mod. Can probs get around the the Sega CD and 32x bit with a flash cart. I don't have a model 3 yet so can't confirm.
