I watched this video because I own a pair of NT5, but would love a K184 due to being a Neumann fanboy. I was pleasantly surprised with how close the two sounded. the NT3 sounded much more top-end focused. Thanks for doing the comparison.
as a drummer this is the perfect video!! Thank you!!!.. NT5 is very close to the 184.. except: the transients are way better (faster recovery) on the neumann, but the basic sounc is close to identical for this purpose
I was thinking it was pretty close until you got to the rhythmic section coming up on 2:00 and then it wasn't close-- the KM184 is so much more responsive that it sounds less like a recording and more like being in the room.
Was looking to get KM184 also to replace my current NT5s, but now I'm confident that it's just waste of money! I really couldn't tell the difference between those in blind comparison. NT3 would propably work as ride or hi-hat mic.

Interesting that there was stereo panning in this mix? I was expecting a mono source?

They're surprisingly similar 🤔
I've tried the NT3 on a hat, but it seemed to distort the capsule. Maybe I have a dud. I now have two of them will compare.
Thank You!! Helps a lot :)
To me the NT5’s sounded best.
are those stereo samples?
