I moved to Mexico one year ago and live in the state of Oaxaca. I recently became an IMSS member. The premiums increase substantially every year, but it is still much more affordable than private health insurance. It also includes prescribed meds and basic (non-cosmetic) dental services. Despite not knowing much Spanish, the folks at the IMSS administration office were kind enough to work with me to get me signed up.
I have already used the IMSS services numerous times and found it to be adequate as long as you have the attitude that you may have to wait to be seen by a doctor unless you are someone in need of immediate critical care. If your visit is for something relatively minor, be prepared for a long wait in the waiting area.

Hi Jerry!!! I recently moved to Ajijic! Best decision ever. I really want to thank you for recommending Cruz! He is the absolute best. I have come to refer to him as my ‘personal assistant and emotional support’ cab driver! Kidding aside, he is really wonderful, as are all the locals. This is truly a magical place (Dental Express is awesome too!!!)

Thanks Jerry. I love it when you take us for a ride and point out things like the spot that's called the "marriage of the trees". I guess it was the last video when you pondered getting an electric trike for your home in Mexico, too, but thought it might not be very comfortable riding over uneven roads to the Carreterra. Maybe you could just drive to one of the bike rental shops and rent one to ride on the bicycle path just for fun and have a more comfortable ride. Always looking for alternatives.☺

Jerry Brown was just crying because his subscriber numbers didn't keep up with other growing channels in Mexico.
Hey, it's reality. We get old and surprisingly the younger audiences (even in their 50s) don't really follow channels detailing Medicare benefits , itemized household budgets of the old and sedentary, etc.
And if you want more subscribers, you'll have to post more Mexico videos too.
I've been following Ed's video's on the construction in Chapala resulting in less parking. Not good...
I liked your ride-along video today.

Yes I can understand the great feeling of paying less once established. It's the established part that is the kicker. The year 2000 established is different than trying to be established in the year 2023 where you live, that's the kicker. Not criticism just an observation. Steve. Hopefully our beloved JC will answer you. If you are or have that residente status, you can live in Mexico till you die. And if you are living in Mexico as a tourist ok, then it is up to those so very nice officers who have control over if you get that 180 day tourist status visa or not. You better leave the country after you whatever days you get if so. So, if you get 20 days being in Mexico ok, enjoy but leave a day before so you can stay safe and have good papers, so you can come back. End of my story. Hopefully our beloved JC will get back to you also.

A question for your next video: I'm an 82 year old geezer who is on some meds that make drinking alcohol ill-advised. I still like the conviviality of bars and the taste of beer. From your experience, do most bars stock one of the many non-alcoholic beers? I know I can buy them in stores but I prefer the social setting of bars, etc. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

Yes … the dollar drop from 21 to 17 is a 19% increase in the USD cost of living in Mexico. That added to inflation come to between 25 and 30% for those of us earning dollars. We retirees are mostly ok, but I feel bad for those Mexican Americans sending money back home to families here.

You make a good point. Many in a very loving and very polite answers here is that the upper class expats no, they don't stop and eat that street tacos or dogs or even tamales. They stop at the the restaurante and eat their whatever. And nothing wrong with that, everybody is different. It's like this even with the native local Mexicans who are a little bit more up there to speak of. They don't stop and eat that street foods. Different class different tastes. Like people who lives in the Americana Colonia area in that high class area in Guadalajara, they don't go over to that ok that grande so grande where you can find everything to buy no, they stop at Liverpool or those high class stores. They don't even go to Walmart and Costco to buy so here you got that point. Even in the US, rich people don't go to the Walmart and Costco to shop they go to all the fancy stores to buy so in many way's no different. Good luck !

I keep hearing about how the drug cartels actually run the government in Mexico and how it's not generally regarded as safe to live there. I watch your videos and you seem to portray something very contrary to what I thought I knew. You have a beautiful home. What keeps others non-lawful people from taking it away from you? I defend my small farm with small arms and I'm willing to use them in defense of my home. Does the government allow you to keep arms like an AR-15 rifle or any other rifle for that matter? You have worked hard for what you have, as have I. Why do you feel safe and secure where you live?
