Fun fact Magikarp has a base flee rate in FRLG of 5%, but the game has a check at the beginning of battle that if the flee rate is below 10%, set it it 10% which only applies to Magikarp Also bait and rocks are purely negative on Magikarp, bait making it harder to catch but still just as likely to flee because it's already at the lowest flee rate. Rocks on the other hand make them more likely to flee but magikarp's catch rate is already 255 making it no easier to catch
Was watching this video while aimlessly shiny hunting in the safari zone in leafgreen. Shiny Chansey popped up, couldn't believe it. Took in the moment and looked at that chart, but sadly it ran after the 2 bait and 1 ball. Now I have that chart for next time though. Maybe someday I'll reclaim it!
Date skip does work for hgss safari zone, you just need to wait for 12:01 instead of just 12:00 for whatever reason, so good luck with your hunts in johto you don't actually need to wait 110 days.
really insightful video! its a shame there isnt a safari zone in later games as its super interesting to see how its been coded and implemented into the games. you wouldnt think something that makes up quite a small part of the game would be so complex. Hopefully pokemon bank might stay online for a while longer as I really enjoy watching people hunt in safari week. Safari Week makes me want to sit down and shiny hunt again after not doing so for a while. Was one of my favorite events shiny hunting. HGSS is my favorite by FAR since the diversity of Pokemon is insane, and I would like to find some rare stuff not easily found in those games compared to FR/LG. I found a Shiny Cacturne there and that was my first like, RARE-rare find. I don't remember the catch or flee rate but I did catch it! I'm assuming its not an easy catch at the very least haha. But great video detailing all the resources, hope people for Safari Week and any other time can use this to optimize their encounters!

I've been trolling around the safari zone recently just to get Pokemon in the safari ball before Bank closes down and so naturally it occurred to me while looking for rare encounters that an even rarer encounter would be to hunt the mythical Safari Zone shiny, so this was a cool vid to see in my recommendations.
An important thing to note about the Great Marsh is that Kecleon, Tropius and Tangela were all Platinum exclusive encounters, so they remain unavailable in the BDSP Great Marsh

important correction for BDSP: you actually can adjust the day. you have to have your time already synced to timezone (if you sync it while it was manually set, you'll get the 1d lockout) and changing your timezone such that it changes the day, reentering the game, and saving while in an "indoor" area and restarting the game. this can be used to reset everything tied to advancing the day, but doesn't affect hour counters (which i think? might just be honey trees? but there's probably something i'm forgetting.)
I cannot wait for Safari Week this year! This video 100% hyped me up for it! The only thing I saw missing from BDSP Great Marsh section was the existence of catching charm in BDSP to increase crit caps in Great Marsh, but aside from that, everything was in there! Norainthefuture created a mod for the gen 1 games that places a shiny indicator on the battle screen. They also have a mod that fixes the RNG so that anything in gen 1 can be shiny. You can choose to use the indicator mod separately from the RNG mod. This means RBY can be easily used for safari week.
Its 3/2/24 If anyone is planning on doing Gible or Riolu in hgss, since they are ridiculously hard to get shiny in gen 4, I suggest setting it up soon. As of now you will have Riolu set up a month before safari week and Gible will be available right around safari week!
This sounds really cool, but I'm definitely not participating; I found a shiny Nidoran in fire red's safari as a kid, and I'm still salty that it ran away. I couldn't handle another one.
@@CannedWolfMeat So, I just found out that the BDSP shiny charm only affects eggs... So tecnically, it has to be full odds, cause there's no other option

There's no exact date yet as far as I'm aware, but like I said in the vid it's usually held around the start of June
