An option for sign making is to use paint pens instead of sharpies to get real paint for a shiny paint finish. This works much better on porous unfinished or stained wood than sharpies. Another inexpensive signboard is melamine shelf board. If you waterproof (paint) the edges, it will last a long time outside. (One rain will ruin it if edges are not waterproofed.) You can use dry erase markers to color melamine and it will last years.
Nice! I've been doing this for awhile now drawing my carvings in actual size so I can see where to locate them on a large material, such as big flag or plaque. I made my own pen holder out of plywood and and thin strips of wood with doughnuts on the end of the thin strips and wing screws to hold the pen. The thin strips of wood lets the pen float over uneven surface flexing up and down, don't need much for a few thousands variations. Works great! And I can put any size pen or pencil or marker in the doughnuts.
@@rbwoodwork1890 my address is jakshaatmac.com I couldn't wait and made my own version yesterday out of 1/8" lexan diy angles. (couldn't figure out how to make the angle springs out of wood.) Super simple/Works great. Will send a pic when I hear from you.
@@boughttheticket that doesn’t work as an email address. Needs an @ sign and something like Gmail or live or something as a mail carrier at the end. Sorry.
Paw Paw is getting an obligatory engagement comment for the Algorithm. Just now finishing up my mostly 3D printed CNC machine, and my first teeth-cutting project is some parking signs for my moms nonprofit!
Nifty idea, silent printing, do it at night and no-one knows !! I hope you take this the good way, you remind me so much of Norm Abrams, the hair, shirt & style of intro ....the only thing missing is "...don't forget these .. Safety Glasses!!"
Thank you. When you are carving a project, the box to increase the feed rate appears next to the carve button and above the material type and size box. You can both increase and decrease the speed.
The penholder file was provided to me by designsbyphil.com Check out his site. He has a great deal of information and files that you can purchase. My son printed the holder for me.
I'm sorry, I do not have the file any longer. I gave the file to my son to print the holder for me. I deleted it off my computer since I do not have a printer. My son did not keep it either. If you email Phil he may sent it to you.
I mention this in the video. The file was given to me by a friend. You can go to www.designsbyphil.com He is the one who designed the sharpie holder. In the video I give him all the credit for the design.

Yes, the paint pens are awesome. I have not tried melamine outside however. Thanks for the tip.

Awesome! That sounds like an excellent idea.

No, actually, I do not have a 3d printer. My son printed this for me at his school. He used it in one of his classes.
How did you set up your Toolpath using a pen? How did you create the tool for a pen?
Just set the depth of cut to about one mm
Does the cap screw on?
Yes it does
