  • Today in The Sims 4, we renovate a Maxis home from Windenberg that originated as a starter home. I really enjoyed the rustic, industrial farm house look we created. What do you think?

    I've renovated this house a couple times before and my favourite was when I embraced the windenberg style of the original structure with a bit of modern enhancement and I added a completely modern addition that created some nice juxtaposition.

      this reminds me of the one build James did in Windenbrug where he added a modern sunroom to the same house deli now does and it didn't completely broke the Windenburg aesthetic!

      I did too! My extension was one big square room on both levels, stretching from the front left of the lot to about 10 squares from the back, keeping that clump of bushes by the front. Then extended the bottom storey out a few squares with a glass roof for the kitchen.

      I work in a shop that located in a building from the 1600s, and it’s class a protected. Which means renovating is a NIGHTMARE. We had to paint last year, and it was such a hassle, because you had to use the original materials

    I know that this is the sims, so it doesn't matter like in real life, but what if you did a build where the outside was like a heritage house and you have to keep it same(ish) or perhaps add a modern extension to an older style house :)

      @@Collins789 That would have been so much nicer on this house. Find a way to bring in the light she wanted but maintain the "historical" integrity. So much harder than just redoing it too, so many not the thing for a video at the end of a busy day, but I'd love to see it.

    When I visited the countryside of England, some of the houses still had those beams on the outside. I think the build did turn out really cute, but I do wish the outside of the home had been embraced. If it were irl, it'd be like its history had been taken away. But I guess that's the good thing about the Sims. It IS just a game. 😅

    • @TMcCarrick
      @TMcCarrick 2 года назад +4

      The house initially is a Tudor House and most if not all are protected (most are 500years old). I would have loved to have seen it with a thatched roof since a lot of them do have thatched roofs. I will admit it's cool to see it renovated since in real-life renovations to a Tudor house like this would be very hard to do, even if permission is allowed.

    I love myself an open plan house however I have to admit that my little European heart breaks everytime a simmer renovates one of the Windenburg houses and doesn't keep the closed floor plan and just makes everything into one big room. It's so common around where I live that you don't have a whole floor open but separate rooms and I liked that about Windenburg and Henford on Bagley as the open plan makes them so American each time..

    Edited to add: I lived in a house where the kitchen was on the main level. Not crazy in itself obviously, but the dining and living room were upstairs a level and the bedrooms downstairs a level. We had frequent dinner and house parties back then and it was such a PITA to lug all the food upstairs after cooking it and all the dishes down to get washed after dinner. I never understood why they decided to build it like that.

      US here - growing up, I did not normally see bathrooms near seating areas. This has changed a bit since open concept is such a big thing in houses these days. IRL - I would prefer the bathroom in a hallway or further from company but in sims, it’s just where it fits 😅
