Can you do the same house through the decades? Like how the same house would look in the 70s, 80s, 90, 2000s, 2010s and now. I think it can be a really fun series.

This was a very creative idea that worked really well! It's a bit like a shell challenge for yourself, but with the rooms and furniture already laid out. I love how you chose very basic, completely white furniture for the base build. It really looks like a template! And if anyone trying their hand at this decides to add bumpouts, a second level, move the furniture around or divide everything up into more rooms or things like that, it's totally possible with this as well. This is the kind of content that is creative, interesting, and helpful to many people at the same time!

I don’t have a reference picture but I got an idea for a build! So my grandparents neighbors have the strangest looking house, the best I can describe it is a concrete dome. They also have a bunch of farmland around it, but not that much grass because where they live they can’t use that much water (tropical desert kind of place).

I live in a Midcentury house, in a neighborhood with a lot of model homes from the 50s (so there are basically copies of my house all around the neighborhood, along with 4-5 different styles of home repeated).
It's so interesting to see how these houses have evolved differently from each other over time. Like, you could see a house in my neighborhood that is the same model as mine, but the garage was turned into a sunroom, or a second story addition was put on, and obviously many people have renovated the exteriors of their homes different. One version of the same house can look like it's still stuck in the 70s, while another looks cottagey, and yet another is completely modern. Basically: the same thing this video is doing, but in real life.
My house clearly got renovated in the 80s and has only had small, utilitarian upgrades since that time, like newer carpet and some new windows. I'm definitely trying to take it back toward some of its Midcentury roots, but you know, that brighter, cleaner Midcentury Modern look because I don't want to live in a dark home. There are some gorgeous hardwood floors under this carpet!

In the neighborhood I grew up in, the houses were all built by the developer with the same floor plan. While the outside of each house looked different due to architecture and landscaping, and the interiors felt different due to decor, I remember that as a kid going over to friends houses or they coming over to mine and just knowing the layout of each others’ homes. All of them were 3 bedroom and everyone’s parents took the master bedroom, of course, which meant the other two rooms were going to be a kids room. In my house my sister got the southeast bedroom while I had the south-central bedroom. My friend that had four other siblings the room that was my sisters was the girls room and the room in the layout that was mine was the boys room. A friend of mine that was an only child had the room that was in the layout mine and the room that in the layout was my sisters was the play room with all their toys. One house the folks took out the connected garage and converted into a bedroom so that they had a four bedroom house so that their teen son could have his own room while another one converted their garage into a family room. Basically when watching you build these it reminded me of how the outside and inside of the houses had differences even though the layout was literally the same. Each family put their own unique spin on the exact same layout of a house in the neighborhood. It wasn’t until I moved out and into an older neighborhood that I realized that neighborhoods could be built in multiple styles with multiple layouts. Then again, the neighborhood I grew up in the houses were all constructed in the late 1970s to early 1980s whereas the neighborhood where I live now, my house and a couple around me were built in the early 1940s, the houses further down one way of the street were built between the late 1910s to the late 1920s and the houses built towards the highway were built in the 1960s. So lots of different layouts based on what was popular with whichever developer was building it at the time (because it basically got built in stages with multiple different developers taking over at different times). So when you finished building I was thinking about downloading all four and placing them in a neighborhood together and making different families for each house and having a neighborhood like I grew up in. The mid-century home reminds me of the house the only child lived in. The parents had lots of furniture like that and the house was really colorful. They even dressed in colorful clothing. The cottage house made me think of this older lady who lived on the corner whose granddaughter lived with her. Her house had lots if floral print wallpapers and she liked plants and had flower patterns on a lot of furniture. She wore a lot of flower print clothing, but her granddaughter tended to just wear t-shirts with cartoon characters and jeans and she hand posters of cartoon characters hung on her wall over floral print wallpaper. The modern minimalist home reminds me of my friends whose parents were in the military. They didn’t own a lot because they had already moved three or four times prior to being stationed here. And because this wasn’t a permanent stationing, they definitely tried to keep as few things owned as possible so they had less to pack when they moved. But they definitely had a lot of the latest gadgets and fancy things with what they did own (first kids on the block to get the Nintendo when it first came out in the US). The suburban home definitely feels like my home and several other friends in that toys around the house and a variety of styles decorating the rooms because parents were basically just buying the furniture as they could find it regardless of the style or had inherited furniture pieces or been given furniture pieces from their friends and family. It wasn’t about having a set style, it was just about living life. The only difference between your build and those in the neighborhood I grew up in is that the houses were classified as “ranch homes”. They were basically rectangular boxes. There was a door that entered into a small entry way. To the left of the front door when you entered was a small coat closet, in front a wall, and to your right was the living room. The wall that ran from the front entry way extended throughout the living room and ended at the dining room. Turning the corner into the living room if you stopped then you could see directly into the dining room. Each house had two windows on the far wall in the dining room and a light that hung down where the table and chairs was expected to go. Looking to your left the room opened up. There was two windows that looked out onto the front porch and then the wall extended a bit further and came to another wall which ran up to a doorway that led into the hallway. There was then another wall from the doorway that ran up to the large opening that framed the dining room. The dining room and kitchen were one room so if you stood in the center or far wall of the living room you could see completely into the kitchen and dining room unobstructed (unless you put furniture that would cause an obstruction). The kitchen extended back from the dining room and had one window where the sink was. There was two upper cabinets and two lower cabinets before the sink then the sink and a cabinet below it followed by two more cabinets (one being a corner cabinet). Then from the corner cabinet was another cabinet and then the range (stove/oven) with a microwave built in above it. Then another cabinet and a corner cabinet followed by the refrigerator. There was a small pantry next to that and the door that went into the garage. Entering the garage to your left was where the washer and dryer were as well as the door to the backyard and in front of you was the garage. Between the door into the garage and the washer and dryer was a bare wall that is where you could pull down the ladder to get into the attic. Most people that lived there just used the attic for storage because it was only as high as the roof, but those who had higher roofs did sometimes have a sorta room up there. For example the friend with four other siblings (3 sisters and a brother), his mom had a small craft area up there. Back inside the house and going through the doorway into the hall. Standing in the doorway looking straight ahead was a type pf closet thing where the hot water tank and heater were stored (the heater connected outside to the central A/C unit). Right next to it was the bathroom (a small room that upon entering there was part of the wall from the storage closet and then right behind that was the counter and sink with mirror 🪞 n the wall followed by the toilet and then the bath/shower combo that had a small window next to it. Towel racks or shelves were usually on the other wall (if built in the sims it’d literally be probably 4 tiles long by 2 tiles wide...really small). At the end of the hallway on your left was the master bedroom. You walk into its door and on the wall facing the front is two windows and on the wall facing the side is one. The closet forms the final wall of the front porch (so the front porch is the front door area, the two windows in the living room, the closet of the master bedroom). Back in the hallway from the doorway to your right is two doors to bedrooms and a small storage area of drawers and a cabinet. In the family with 5 kids they stored board games, etc in it. My family used it to store extra blankets, extra towels, and stuff like that. The door that leads into the corner bedroom if you go through there’s a window to the side of the house (same side as the bathroom window and single master bedroom window). The closet’s back wall connects to the bathroom. The other door to the center room if you enter the far wall in front of you the other side is the dining room, the wall to your right is the living room, and the wall to your left has twi windows that look out into the backyard (same wall the two windows in the dining room and singular window in the kitchen and singular window in the corner bedroom all are on). *By two windows I mean double windows (as in no space between them: living room, dining room, master bedroom, and center bedroom all had double windows...a few of the houses had the double windows in the dining room removed and replaced with a patio glass door, but most did not). The back wall of closet in the center room connected to the corner bedroom. The garage was built so that there was a place for a closet in it that would be connected behind the closet at the front entry. Several of the earliest built houses had that closet there while the later ones did not. The house I grew up was built in 1978 (year I was born) and did not have that closet, only an open space there which my family used for storage. A friend of mine their parents built shelves and so it was like a book nook. During the summer they’d keep the garage door open and put out a little picnic table in the garage and kids could come and read. Their mom would make us snacks like Rice Krispie treats and have lemonade for us, too. The house that had converted the garage into a family room put a small round metal fireplace in that space.
Great builds! Love each of them! If I was to choose the ones I most like to live in I’d choose either the mid-century or minimalist modern. I’ve always liked the looks of both of those styles. Great video! Thanks for making it!

The mid-century home was my favorite 😍🤤 I was surprised because I definitely embrace the cottage core life. You got me hooked on The Cottage Fairy in like 2020-21! I adore Paola! 🥰🥹 She recently got married and it has been fun to see her make a home in her new cottage. Just pre-ordered her book as well! You and Paola are the only RUclipsrs I immediately stop what I’m doing (when possible) to go watch a new upload when I get a notification.

Your creativity never ceases to amaze me! I am one of those people who struggle so badly building/furnishing and you do it with such ease! Having all these diff inspo’s will definitely help so many out that are like me!

I LOVE THIS VIDEO CONCEPT! New to building, Ive always been good at redecorating but Im pretty new to building and this concept helps a lot. Ive builds lots like a bowling ally and a bar before but somehow homes are difficult for me. The different styles allows you to use content you wouldn't have thought of using.

I love the Mid-Century and the Brutalist builds the best. I would love to see your take on a Funkis (funktionalistisk) build.
I tend to struggle with the floor plan the most in builds, so a video on this would also be really helpful.

After watching the whole video, I looked back to compare so that I could give you my verdict on which house I would buy. But it's IMPOSSIBLE! They all look great in their own way. The upkeep of the blue suburban would give me nightmares though. Those are the things I am now fully aware of as a former semi-detached house owner. I went back to renting and chose an apartment. Being a perfectionist and not having to take care of the structure with my non-existent building skills was the main reason.

This is my favorite kind of Deli video! I would adore a series of these - maybe next one two stories? I am very interested in residential architecture, but if categories like Dutch Colonial, Cape Cod, Bungalow, etc are too specific, I'd watch you create homes in Cottage, Post Modern, Modern Minimal Suburban over and over and over!

The midcentury house gave me an idea. I think I'm going to, as accurately as possible, recreate the original Parr house from The Incredibles. I love the films and have The Incredibles 1 & 2 on DVD as well as the LEGO game on Switch. They show a lot of the interior in the movie, so there are a lot of visual references to work from. I'm not sure the big curvy mansion from the beginning of 2 can be done, but if I can figure it out, I might try eventually.
