I have conducted this piece for 30 years and this is a total revelation, an epiphany. Cannot possibly thank you enough. Can hardly catch my breath for the tears that started flowing at "E'en the sprit of Truth'" Simply glorious! Thank you so much.
I, too, have both sung and conducted this exquisitely beautiful anthem Innumerable times. But this rendition vastly surpasses them all, and any others that I have heard -- so typical of the interpretations of this great ensemble.
As a low bass I appreciate this comment. We often get ignored! This wonderful group always inspires with it's fine balance and sensitive interpretation.
With Renaissance polyphony, it's not enough just to sing the notes and rhythms; there has to be a focus on the thematic material. The Gesualdo Six does this superbly here. Each entrance of the little motifs in each voice is accented so perfectly. It really makes this short piece come alive. Wonderful work, gentlemen.
It's my first time hearing their rendition of this classic Tallis piece of music. I'm lost for words, there aren't enough to really describe just how simply perfect this is! ❤
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing the Gesualdo Six a few days ago performing this wonderful piece alongside many others whilst promoting their English Motets CD..... Sublime...a slice of paradise...mind blowing 😍
There is no way to properly thank you for this lovely rendition, and superb sound recording!! This replaces all of my other favorite versions! From now on, I will look to you first.
A truly sublime and masterful chorus from Thomas Tallis, but yet done with exquisite harmony, especially with the counter tenor addition. Thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous. Just absolutely gorgeous. The lower tonal setting just adds to the conveying the true meaning of the words. Superb. TT would undoubtedly love this.
Please correct your printed text above: "he will" => "he shall". This is the most moving of the dozens of RUclips recordings of this work! The low pitch plus the slower tempo are absolutely mind-boggling!
Just got done recording this with my glee club yesterday. Wonderful piece, and absolutely wonderful finally having the chance to sing with my brothers in song again.
Heard them with it yesterday at Berlin Philharmonie chamber music hall ... Touching and overwhelming, as many other pieces of the concert. And all just perfect.
Gorgeous tenderness and warmth as your passion makes this perfromance stunning. Listening to this many times over again, thanks. Owain you rock on the bass line like an organ pedal.
Just beautiful. Unlike others, I liked the tempo - slower than often but this makes the words so clear and full of meaning. Listen again to the "forever" for example.
I am in awe of how well these singers shape and phrase the individual lines while maintaining such a beautiful group sound, especially in the low key. I would have preferred it just a hair faster to lend some more flow to the music (it is usually notated in cut time), but to each their own. Perhaps you wanted to have us savour the beautiful voices at the slow tempo!!
The depth of emotion and warmth through pure, port wine voices, is a Devine achievement. A constant level of smooth tenderness. I wish to see the other two singers..Why can I not? The workshop environment is pleasing.. but I miss two of the whole !!!! Why?
Ok, let's return back some 500 years and try again. We clearly lost our way.
Uhm 🌚
The risk of the slow tempo was so worth it. Plus gorgeous tuning. Aaaah
I had the pleasure of hearing the ensemble sing this last night in the Cathedral of St. James here in Seattle. It stopped time.
Yes. I was at that as well. Several times I was moved to tears... such sublime beauty.
I have conducted this piece for 30 years and this is a total revelation, an epiphany. Cannot possibly thank you enough. Can hardly catch my breath for the tears that started flowing at "E'en the sprit of Truth'" Simply glorious! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, Paul. It's one of our favourite pieces :)
I, too, have both sung and conducted this exquisitely beautiful anthem Innumerable times. But this rendition vastly surpasses them all, and any others that I have heard -- so typical of the interpretations of this great ensemble.
The bass has such a rich and full tone, it covers the chord in almost a blanket of warmth. So beautiful
As a low bass I appreciate this comment. We often get ignored! This wonderful group always inspires with it's fine balance and sensitive interpretation.
@@garywait3231 No good director ignores the bass!
who is the bass voice please ?
@@williamlewis8741 If im not mistaken it is Owain Park himself who directs The Gesualdo Six.
@@micahblauer777 you're quite right. i'm quite keen to hear some of his previous recordings with his bass voice
That velvety bass really makes this special.
I have sung this piece as an alto but this pitch and pacing are perfectly glorious, so rich, so Tallis. Thank you for keeping Early Music alive today.
It is amazing to me that this doesn't have over 1,000,000 views.
Too true--only 29,000 blessed. But what a blessing!

Well said. And well-chosen point. Renaissance choirs I sang in could sometimes use to hear this advice repeated.
not even those statues could resist to stop and listen
It's my first time hearing their rendition of this classic Tallis piece of music. I'm lost for words, there aren't enough to really describe just how simply perfect this is! ❤
That bass, like a foundation of solid rock! Though, all the other voices, magnificent, too!
Lower, darker, more thoughtful than usual. Luminous sound. This is perhaps my favourite version of one of my favourite hymns. Love you guys
I walked in to this at my wedding and this version was so beautiful.
Wow what a GREAT choice....
They sang it at the First Unitarian Church in Providence this afternoon, with the same haunting beauty. Glorious singing of glorious music.
This is too beautiful.. i just cant....
I've listened to a lot of versions of this recently and I have to say I've not heard one to beat it. Just exquisite!
Thank you so much, Lynda!
Easily the best performance of this piece.
This is what I call, absolute perfect intonation! Hats off, gentlemen!
Obviously corrected by computer.
Басы!! Можно с ума сойти от вашей красоты.

Sublime...a slice of paradise...mind blowing 😍
The same, not long ago, in Ljubljana, Slovenia!
There is no way to properly thank you for this lovely rendition, and superb sound recording!! This replaces all of my other favorite versions! From now on, I will look to you first.
One of the greatest compositions of its age - music that is for all time. And by far the greatest performance of this piece that I've heard.
Das war einfach schön

A wonderful version. Full credit to each part, when done as a quartet.
This is the most beautiful version I've heard. Beautiful
I am utterly knocked off my feet. Thank you so much.
Gorgeous. Just absolutely gorgeous. The lower tonal setting just adds to the conveying the true meaning of the words. Superb. TT would undoubtedly love this.
This group has become my favorite...Voices as smooth as buttuh :)
Truly divine. Voices blend so beautifully.
"May all beings be happy, be peaceful..................""
just love this song. can't get enough of it..........
Cuando la belleza detiene al tiempo.
This has that lovely resonant quality like when strings play A 415. Just beautiful
Why aren't they on Spotify
They are
