Absolutelly clean singing, absolutelly clean contrapunctus!!! ❤❤❤ Who is able to compose such musical beauty? I am proud to our European culture.❤❤❤
Oh my, this music is heavenly. It brought tears to my eyes. I hope to find more holy music like this.
An epiphany. It is a gentle rain of heavenly solace, sadness and perfection.
This beautiful piece of music is the perfect frame to the amazingly comforting promise of Our Lord to Saint John. That promise, often forgot by listeners, is what realy matter.
So wird wohl im Himmel gesungen!!! Ich kenne kaum ein schöneres Stück von T. Tallis, vielen Dank, das geht direkt ins Herz :-)
If ye love me
Keep my commandments
And I will pray the Father
And he shall give you another comforter
That he may 'bide with you forever
E’en the spirit of truth
By Thomas Tallis & Taken from John 14:15-17
Hard to believe that this was written in the 1540's
Yeah, it's so modern.......
Toujours magique, le soir, casque sur les oreilles, un étage, puis deux, puis une sorte d'extase.
I remember studying this piece as part of my A-Level music course which pivoted me to go onto studying music at uni. Just a marvelous work of music.
Just magnificent! Very well done … the sound texture blend is astonishing. bravo..❤️ from Arizona USA
One of my favourite pieces of choral music, here beautifully sung. The glances between members of the scholars is about communicating between the members.
Beautiful performance! The same seamless lines, flawless blend, perfect pitch and balance as the original! Bravo to the VOCES8 Scholars AND to your teachers!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Beautiful performance, don't mind the comments 😂
Thanks for posting this, I thoroughly enjoyed it; two minutes of quiet joy.
This is incredibly moving and beautiful.
It is beyond my understanding how anyone could give this divine music a thumbs down.
A depth and simplicity of beauty never surpassed.
Depth?! Except by every other song ever composed in a minor key.
Totally astonishing. Some of the most beautiful singing I have heard. Reveals in all its splendour this famous piece by Tallis .
Beyond beautiful, as always!
ps: the men are very handsome, they deserve more screentime! 😄
Agreed!
beautiful! very helpful to me! we are singing it at church 9 am Sunday morning!
fabulous interpretation and perfornance of a truly outstanding gem from the Tallis-Byrd gang.
I like their voices.
Beautiful performance; well done everyone.
Simply and utterly beautiful music and voices!
Unutterably beautiful and perfect. God hears this, and blesses us all.
Beautiful one of my faves they are doing so well what a future holds for each one of them praying 🙏🏼 blessings on them and you people on here Mary Great Britain 🇬🇧💕🎉
Beautiful 💝
Thanks. A lovely rendition. 'Twas a trip down memory lane. We sang this at the christenings of both our sons, now 34 and 38...
Who doesn’t like this? For crying out loud! It’s beautiful.
Incredibly bland straight tone singing
I've done this one with a madrigal group ten years, before COVID put us on hold. Am hoping to revive the group with this high on the list of things to perfect. Seamless; well done.
Very pretty rendition.
Beautiful x you always had a wonderful voice Lilly x
Perfection
absolutely wonderful!
S is so delicate!
Insanely beautiful 👏
Beautiful blend!
Fantastici meravigliosi.
Thank you 👏👏🙏
Luxurious!
Beautiful performance, this is one of my absolut favourite hymns by T. Tallis. The first time I actually heard this piece of music was with The Tallis Scholars. Later when I was searching for other records and the other one I found was acually with Voces 8. They sang in a Brittish program and I think it was about temptation. This was the time when Paul and Emelie was a part of the group so long time ago. But you guys (scholars) you sing also beautiful and I hope you never stop singing, I really love your interpretation of this piece of music.
Just stunning. Would love to here you guys record Sicut Cervus Palestrina. Also the concert you did for Rollins College was absolutely amazing!
It's a pity that the group have chosen here to rename St Annes and St Agnes Church in Gresham St in the City as the Voces 8 Centre, even if they do have a residency there these days.
This is a wonderful and moving piece of music, though the online version of it by the Kings Singers, recorded during the coronavirus lockdown, is much better. This was made without the need for a residency anywhere, with each singer contributing his voice at his own home.
Lovely!
Wonderful!
Bravo!
This is so well done. Bravo.
Wonderful for late February!
Lindo!
Having performed this piece, what I missed in this performance was the articulation of the lyric text. Sans articulation, the chorale enjoyed the rich and oft haunting chordal changes of the music. If greater attention was given to the lyric, the fugal joy of this piece would have been more exceptionally expressed... IMO, of course.
Yes, that's it-exactly! This group has everything but passion! Compare this with Tenebrae's version for instance.
I had a quick look at Cranmer's instructions for church music and composers were supposed to make the articulation of the text a priority over the music, so that if the music was absent it would be clear what was being said. I am guessing that you already knew that...
I think the lyrics are perfectly articulated. Tallis would be more than happy with this performance as it conveys the celestial and profound spirituality which underpins the piece.
Over articulation would in my opinion kill the music resulting in the loss of an avenue to God. Then one might as well read the words absent the music as the over pious Catholic Church wanted in the Renaissance.
@@johnbogle59 The Renaissance put emphasis on the text because they simply had the wherewithal to show the Proddy heretics that they had neither heart nor understanding of what is absolute in this style namely the symbiotic relationship between harmony and lyric to ponder the mystery of God and his love for his creation.
Have you a link of the piece as you described, please?
This is beauticul
Briljant !
gorgeous music best choir voces8 rules⭐️
Absolutely beautiful expressive singing!!! Bravo VOCES8 Scholars. Have sung this many times in my church choir in Canada... one of my favorite choral pieces. I am partial to the tenor line; glorious. Thk you everyone!
Lovely! Thanks so much
Great balance.
Heavenly beautiful!
The performance is superb, but forget not the adoration in the poetry.
👏👏👏
Proverbs 23:20-21
20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Whoever directed this video needs to have a word with him or herself.
Perfectly calm, quiet, pitched and also with a warm atmosphere. Recorded not too close. Camera a bit in favour of the women.
Agree, the women certainly got centre stage. More of the men too please. Beautiful piece.
cuz they are pretty and charming. so, good. I would do the same on the edit.
Yes, I was thinking the same, a little distracting don't you think?
👏👏👏👏🌺💐♥️💕
Waar blijven jullie dat talent vinden? Nog een beetje schaven en we hebben een tweede Sixteen.
Where are the regular VOCES8 singers?
What are the names of this beatiful singing people ?
Very close to the orginal. 😉
WHAT ALBUM IS THIS ON
The members of Voices 8 have changed completely, haven't they? But, in any case, the sound keeps on being amazing and perfecto ❤️
This is the junior squad
@@XM525754 Technically, "scholars". If they're "juniors", then I'm a kindergartener!
They don’t write ‘em like this anymore
Loved it. Was it filmed at double speed and then slowed down for the effect? 😉
Eh?
It doesn't seem like they'd do it and I might be wrong, but the movement doesn't look real time. It looks like it was filmed 50fps, with them singing it double speed to their own sped up track, then slowed down to 25 on the original track to give a smooth dreamy real time slomo kind of effect.
Who are the new singers and what are their roles in the choir??
These singers are our new Scholars - find out more at voces8.com/scholars

And they're doing very well! Beautifully sung music and beautifully taught ensemble.
Is this an offshoot group from Voces8.
yes ... voces8 scholars ... appointed for a year i think
I appreciate that the sound is wonderful and that the sound is the important part of this performance. However it is also a video and therefore people are watching as well as listening, so it is noticeable that the females have obviously made an effort and look really smart, whereas only one of the male singers appears to have even thought about his appearance!
Beautifully sung, really I adore it. But why these sensual looks of the sopranos? It does not sell better you know.
Prefer the Tallis Scholars on this one.
😊😅😮😢🎉😂❤
I'm sorry but what is up with the sopranos hamming it up for the camera? This is a sacred piece not a show piece.
I could do with a bit less smirking and side-eye. I’m here for the musical performance.
Try listening to them instead of watching them then, genius.
@@sirknight4981 Why so hostile? They sounded great. I was transported. In fact, the music is so much the focus of my attention that I don’t want the distraction of cute social interaction during the performance. That’s what we get from Voces8. That’s what I want from the scholars.
That wasn't smirking. It was genuine smiling.
@@mwnyc3976
It was cheap attention seeking of the shallowest kind.
@@MeanApollo i.e., what RUclips comment boxes were created for.
Прикольно было бы переписать эту музыку для православной херувимской)
Beautiful sound- one of our favourite pieces to sing. Wasn't so keen to watch the expressions and the looks passing between the 2 sopranos- much prefer the other group who just concentrated on the music instead of hamming it up for the camera. Just my opinion of course- just found it distracting- lovely to listen to though!
The looks are about communication between the choristers.
What a foolish comment. Imagine being upset when elite musicians look at each other to stay in sync, or accusing musicians of "hamming it up" when they smile because they're enjoying a beautiful piece of music. You seem to be one of those miserable pleasure-sapping people who rip great music to shreds at any excuse and forget that it is meant to be enjoyed by everyone.
The ladies are supporting each other which is beautiful and a loving thing to do! God bless. Please watch the warning or illumination of conscience by Christine Watkins. @@ockertmouton9139 I guess that’s so, especially since no one is “conducting”- they’re relying on these interactions instead.
I thought their communion was very beautiful, very touching ... I don't think they were 'hamming it up', I thought they were very sincere.
It's such a beautiful piece and you sing it beautifully but it's not a piece that should be sung with all that come-hither stuff.
Soprano in lavender = HAWT
Absolutely beautiful
But those two girls on the far left with their intentional looks break the mood with their attention seeking.
Tell'em to get in line.
Out the door you unfrosted pop-tart.
A bit too muted and soft. More diction needed.
They should have put the original video with the audio. This dubbed over, overly dramatic video gives me the creeps. It makes one wonder about potential lip synching.
Beautiful singing, but what's the deal with the distracting looks at each other? Totally out of place here.
Please. Shut up.
@@clarinetchamber7158 why so angry?
i like the looks. why be boring? they are singing with each other and to each other. If you conduct, I definitely would never want to sing under your utterly boring direction.
SO DISTRACTING when the ladies look at each other longingly.......just sing please, you do it so well.
it’s simply a form of expression that makes watching the performance so much more impactful than listening. besides, performers who are able to convey emotions in their voice and face are typically the best kind. if you can’t handle the level of expression maybe you should just listen to the audio :)
@@areanamann4903 I know what you mean but this goes well beyond conveying the emotion of it. The singing is absolutely beautiful. But they’re hamming it up in the soprano section and it detracts from the visual presentation.
@@areanamann4903
Wrong, its cheap attention seeking and everyone can see it.
Just by looking at their faces i know they havent understood this music.
The self-conscious starry-eyed emoting of lavender girl stood out like a sore thumb in the otherwise serious and respectful ensemble. That’s not what an audience let alone any collection of musicians wants from duets to orchestras. Someone should tell her a concert is about the music and not how she looks singing it. Just for me even if she were the soloist she wishes she were it would be hard to watch that level of vanity and overacting.
@@leslie16450 It is worth pointing out that the music composed by Thomas Tallis should really be all male with counter tenors. This performance is of course very good but it is not authentic.
Why do the two sopranos keep glancing at each other? Weird... distracting. Otherwise, lovely!
nothing wrong
I loved the singing, but the girly glances between the two trebles was nauseating, more suitable for a Oil of Ulay skin care advert than the sublime ecclesiastical music of Tallis.
Very strange the way the girl in purple looks around. Weird! Lol!
