I worked in a refinery for 40 years making gasoline. Ethanol changes everything, if your going to let your car sit for more than a month, then add a stabilizer/ethanol treatment. Worth the effort.
Love this I’ll make sure to top off my tank before I store my mustang love your content can’t wait to see who wins that awesome truck thanks for the awesome content!!!
Even though you never had a problem with your gas I would still use some star tron it is helpful with your fuel pump seals and gasket even though your using 93 octane you still have Ethanol in there. Found out the hard way used to do what u do
I love this channel. Even I as someone who loves Ev’s still can enjoy his content. Another plus is that they have a Tesla. Keep up the great work Mike!
I was using a battery tender until my fire cheif told me we had three fires in our village in one year due to them. So i disconnect my batteries and charge them up twice through Canadian winter. Then a year later I received a recall on my Costco battery tender. Doah! Many people use them, i just got nervous is all.
My car was put up October 19th it was 8 degrees last Tuesday and snowing I hope to have it out by Easter weekend last year we had more winter in April than we had in March so I didn't get out until the first weekend of May
I own a 2017 ZO6 and have always filled it up prior to storing. However I have recently been told that it's best to store with a quarter tank or less. At least in modern, post 2015 cars! Do you agree?
I just bought a 2020 chevy equinox for 26000$. just wanted opinions on if that was a good deal from you guys. down payment got it to 22,646.09$. Had 12 miles on it.
No need to store it. I put Michelin Pilot Alpin P4 winter tires on mine and plan to drive it through the winter months. Maybe not when it snows, even though I could do that.
1). Plastic? Optional. 2). Wash the car? Of course! 3). GM's head Corvette tech recommends a ¼ tank or so for storage. Period. A TSB was issued a few years back stating that fuel sender sensors submerged for long (several months) periods of time become contaminated and no longer work. I've stored mine with a full tank and never had any issues, but I'm now going with the GM expert. (And re: Sta-Bil? It never hurts. 2 months or 6 months. It's not like you're going to break the bank for a bottle of that.) 4). Oil change in fall or spring is the age-old question and you'll get solid arguments on both sides. I'm a spring guy. 5). Over-inflate your tires 4 to 5 lbs. and you'll be fine. 6). There was no #6. 7). Flat stoppers are pretty much snake oil. IF your tires were to develop flat spots (mine never have through several vehicles and several Northern Ohio winters), they will disappear as if by magic after a few minutes during your inaugural spring drive. 8). Battery Tenders are an absolute must. If your thinking of storing your vehicle for the winter without one, you should have your keys taken away. 9). (You said "number 8" twice). Never used dryer sheets or tinfoil...not much of a critter problem here. 10). Rather that baking soda, I've used these with great success: www.amazon.com/Zarpax-LV-A300-2PK-Reusable-Auto-Dehumidifier/dp/B01N5QFPUH/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Zarpax+Reusable+Auto+Dehumidifier&qid=1604187593&sr=8-2 11). Agree 1000% about NEVER starting the car until you're ready to take her out of hibernation.
Not trying to be a smart you know what here, but the fuel tank should only be filled to one quarter. When you store your C7 or C8 Corvette with a full tank of fuel the sending unit sensor card contact points on the float would actually be submerged in fuel. That’s not an issue with normal driving because the sending unit float moving up and down helps keep the contacts clean. However, should it remain submerged over long storage periods, sulfur contaminants in the fuel can change the resistance of the sending card, causing issues with the fuel system and no reading to your gas gauge. The reason why most people were taught to fill up their tanks before a long-term storage would be to keep moisture out of the fuel tank. The C7 and C8 Corvette fuel system is a closed system designed to keep moisture out and that’s why you can store your Corvette with just a quarter tank of fuel. It costs several thousands of dollars to have the sending unit repaired because of the labor involved.
Yes Joe this is correct as this was true for older cars. The more modern corvettes starting with the c5 does not require you to fill up the tank before storage...it's a closed system.
Can you please PM me and explain this “storage” thing to me? Us Floridians are very confused! 🤣 Keep it up man! 500k subs is around the corner for you!
Mike, what about the oil draining to the bottom of the pan (on wet sump systems)? If you don't start the car every now and then, won't the valve train end up dry by the time you start it for the first time (dry starting the engine)?
I just received my C8 last week, will be storing it next week (I live in Montreal) with less than 300 miles on the odometer. Do you still recommend an oil change with so few miles?
I live in New York where it gets really cold during the winter, so I follow all of these steps and add STA-BIL before storing my car for about six months or so. But I’m concerned when it comes to restarting my car in the spring. Is there any necessary steps I need to do to minimize any potential damage to my car before restarting it?
Yes. Starting your car after 6 months of storage is hard on the engine because all the oil has drained off the cylinder walls and other parts that require lubrication. After you are ready to start your car; 1) Depress the clutch 2) Push the throttle pedal all the way to the floor and hold it to the floor. 4) Press the start button and the engine starter will crank the engine. The starter should disengage after 7 seconds, if it does not press the stop (starter button). Because the accelerator is fully depressed, the engine will not fire up. 5) Wait a few seconds, press start.

You can use an extension cord in a tender. I don’t have any public Z06 info I can share. The ones I listed will hold the 345’s. They have a smaller one I didn’t post because most of us have wide tires.
off topic question, how can I find a dealer that will let me order car instead of off the lot? is there a specific designation by Chevy? went to a dealer today and was told I can't through this chevy dealer
I cut that from the video. I said to put dryer sheets in there and maybe a cardboard cut out. But thought maybe someone would do something stupid (why I said what I said at end of video) and next thing you know. “Chevy dude is responsible”. Lol 😂
Love my Florida life, year round driving of anything we want and we never have to worry about snow, salt, rust!! I watched nonetheless, never hurts to have a little extra knowledge!!
I store my car in FL for 6 hot and humid summer months out of the year. Here is my procedure: - Wash and wax the car and clean the windows and interior - Use Startron fuel stabilizer and fill up the tank - Fill-up the tires to the correct pressure - Do a oil and fuel filter change (and check all other fluids) - Park the car - Jack up the car and place it on jack stands - under the control arms and axle to keep the suspension compressed - Disconnect the battery - Wrap the exhaust tips with plastic wrap - Lift the windshield wipers up and put plastic wrap on the windshield (keeps the wiper blades from sticking to the windshield) - Put a few bags of Botanical Rodent Repellent under the hood around the engine bay - Put three, four pound, tubs of DampRid in the interior for moisture control - Put a few dryer sheets in the interior (makes the interior smell nice when you take the car out of storage) - Put on the car cover - Plug in the security webcam so I can see the car since I am not there

Why do you need this thing for the battery, my solution would be to remove the battery from the car and put it inside the house.
I store my car in FL for 6 hot and humid summer months out of the year.
Here is my procedure:
- Wash and wax the car and clean the windows and interior
- Use Startron fuel stabilizer and fill up the tank
- Fill-up the tires to the correct pressure
- Do a oil and fuel filter change (and check all other fluids)
- Park the car
- Jack up the car and place it on jack stands - under the control arms and axle to keep the suspension compressed
- Disconnect the battery
- Wrap the exhaust tips with plastic wrap
- Lift the windshield wipers up and put plastic wrap on the windshield (keeps the wiper blades from sticking to the windshield)
- Put a few bags of Botanical Rodent Repellent under the hood around the engine bay
- Put three, four pound, tubs of DampRid in the interior for moisture control
- Put a few dryer sheets in the interior (makes the interior smell nice when you take the car out of storage)
- Put on the car cover
- Plug in the security webcam so I can see the car since I am not there
