    Likewise, judo literally 'saved my neck' numerous times when falling while hands were full or incapacitated. Latest happened when I was 75 years age. Training pays off.

    Just beautiful. Some of these throws are works of art. The slightest vulnerability is immediately exploited, usually with grace. Then there is Ono, who seems to have come back even physically stronger after his break, if that is possible. Maybe it's because he often trains above his weight class. In any event, he is simply over-powering.

      Reminds me of one of the first in-house bjj tourneys I was in. Me and my opponent went into overtime, next point would win, he charged for a savage double-leg takedown, lifted, slammed me down, leapt to his feet and cheered to the heavens. He got points off for the slam and unsportsmanlike conduct. Humble, I got up, dusted myself off, shook his hand and won in more ways than one.

      @@Mr.Smiley_J But the sad thing is that BJJ does not teach you to be a better person as does Judo and other arts. I've been practicing for nearly 4 years, got a purple belt and the amount of bad conduct during fights I have been the target of or witnessed is astonishing. This behavior goes all the way to brown and black belts.
      If you already have the correct mindset about being a decent person while a fighter, I fear practicing BJJ in the long run will demotivate you somehow. Have you considered moving to Judo?

      japan is a small, overpopulated island nation. If everyone is overly expressive, it would create an unwanted emotional chaos. So everyone is expected to refrain from bragging, showing off, being arrogant, etc. It's their culture.

      @Jp Bm it is a refreshing sight, a judoka with such an opinion. As a bjj practitioner with a lot of respect for judo, everytime i hear judo players lament that this "bjj craze" is just marketing and stolen techniques from judo, I can't help but shake my head and think: "is it really stealing when you (well, your governing body) throw it away?". Everytime someone in BJJ comes up with a new(ish) technique there's someone somewhere whining somebody in judo did it first. Which may or may no be true, and is largely irrelevant. The way I see it, if you're not using it (possibly because rules), and you're not teaching it (because most judo clubs only care about olympic rules), well then too bad, people will rightfully go learn it from somebody who does use it and does teach it. Techniques can't be owned anyway.

    • @Robobotic

      BJJ is an american rip off and also highly impractical. Im sorry but if you pull guard on someone on the street he will break your spine and stomp your head.

    • @chrisg1772
      @chrisg1772 5 лет назад +14

      @@Robobotic American, you do know what the 'B' stands for in BJJ right? Also stating it highly impractical is absurd. Sure there are techniques you wouldn't use in a street setting like pulling guard but there are plenty of other techniques you can use.

    Seoi Nage and Drop Seoi Nage are a lot like the flying mare. I really wish I could find more accounts of British wrestlers encountering judokas for the first time. I feel like game would recognize game instantly.

      @Lee Potier...Hey !! Cuz U know the name of that move !! Why do most martial artists say "A BLACK BELT" ?? It seems like they mean a 1st degree...Even in the UFC, which I consider not that great of fighters, by what my friend told me....Their rank is 97% a 1st degree...My friend is 5th Judoka and he watched he start of a UFC match and said to me, that's NOT how U fight and I could easily beat these guys...That's not even bringing fighting guys, w/ a 3rd degree black belt in shorin ryu karate, a 1st degree black belt in Full Contact TKD, his proficiency in boxing and his Pro kick boxing skills, where he went 4 and 1 and his loss was by decision...He WOULD NEVER NEED 4, or ALL forms of fighting to BEAT UFC/Bellator MMA fighters...He was BRUTE force strong, by working out w/ 400 pound bench...Not his max...The thing is, this video DOES NOT say a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or more...But back to Judo, would he beat all of these guys w/ ONLY 1st degree black belt....I think he would beat them, cuz he has a LEGIT 5th degree black belt in Judo.....Also, I get it, a person w/ less than a 1st degree black belt, can beat a person w/ a 1st degree....I mention his strength, cuz he told me strength does not matter to be a great fighter...But, another instructor said, strength is a legit technique...One more PROOF of my friends LEGIT belt earning...He went up against 4 guys w/ one rank ahead of him ( going for his next belt )and came after him at the same time and DID NOT hold back, and he beat all 4...Also, he taught me, UFC guys only train for 1 to 3 years in any form of martial arts, which gives them a 1st degree black belt...Some train for 5 years TOPS, which gives them a 2nd degree TOPS...And VERY FEW UFC/BellatorMMA guys, top out at a 3rd degree...Again, Y do people say "A BLACK BELT" ?? Y do people OFTEN NEVER go past a 1st degree and think they R BAD ASSES ?? My friend could never beat Bruce Lee, or Jet Li, or Sammo Hung, or donnie yen, but he would have given Norris a run for his money in his prime...Since U named the name of the Judo throw, I'm asking for YOUR INSIGHT...Thank You Lee :):)

    I remember seeing my friend back in highschool compete, he was a judo champ at that time. He trained his entire life and still probably does from time-to-time. I vividly saw him threw a guy and broke his arm, painful to watch, felt bad for the opponent. But the guy who got his arm broken went on to play basketball instead, ironically he was a pretty good shooter lol.
