    Good one, this is me! I have been doing the T-Rex. One additional point that I have seen is that the off-hand is often released backward, very much like the one-handed backhand stroke. Unzip the zipper with both hands. But can’t wait to try raising that elbow, thanks!

    I did that at a local tennis club in Japan, and the instructor told me to put that elbow down. Pearl Tennis Club near Izumi-Fuchu station (Osaka). *shrug* The Bryan Bros. use the same high-elbow technique. I'll keep doing it the PYC way. :D

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  Год назад +1

      Both are technically correct but we definitely feel like the higher elbow assists with the high to low swing path and leading with the edge whereas the low elbow sometime does not. Thanks for trusting us and the feedback! 🙏😊

    Interesting! I want to try it, but...why does it work? Is it just too difficult to get the racquet in the proper position otherwise? The reason I ask is at the point of impact, you're still using only one hand...I might be overthinking, but if anyone has an answer I'd appreciate it.

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  4 года назад +2

      Hi Gretchen, definitely give it a try and I think you will see a big improvement fairly quickly. The non dominant hand although not on the racquet at contact helps create leverage over the ball while supporting the hitting hand. In addition it sets the parameters of the stroke, almost like a engineer building a slide. Give it a go and let us know what you think. Thanks for wathcing!

    Eastern backhand grip feels fine and supported but I want to use the Continental and it feels VERY unsupported. Any way to make the pure Continental (no variation) supported on the backhand volley?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  3 года назад

      Try to focus on loading the wrist. When done correctly the wrist will draw back ever so slighlty as if you had just initated drawing a hamer back in order to strike a nail. The wrist should be firm so that it supports the weight of the racket. The non-dominant hand is a big player in the success of the backhand volley as well. Putting focus on those two aspects should help. Thanks for watching, keep grinding out there!

    I'm a fairly solid 5.0 but my backhand volley just is not effective. I think my form is very similar to what was displayed here yet I just lack the touch and force. Any other drills you suggest?

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  4 года назад +1

      Hey Simon, as you probably know the backhand volley will always be somewhat weaker than the forehand volley so it really comes down to the expectation of the stroke. I find it's easier to dial in targeting with the backhand volley and that tends to be enough to keep it effective. Perhaps play with the grip a bit as that can sometimes help. The continental grip can feel unsupported and make producing pop difficult. Try shifting it ever so slightly to a eastern grip and see if that gives it more support. Thanks for watching and the feedback. Keep us posted on the progress of that backhand volley!

      @@Playyourcourt Thank you. I did some drills today with a fellow coach and felt a lot more comfortable. I stick to a continental grip on both sides. I will follow your advice and play around with grips. Appreciate the help.

    if you bring you left hand behind the ball then the elbow will adjust and it doesnt matter if the elbow is high or low ( close to the body )even with low elbow you can have strong volley if you go down and backward

  • @jesoby
    @jesoby Год назад

    No need to exaggerate weakness of a one handed technique; the volley can still be strong but there’s little control.
