Insane footwork
Hi Meike, I like so much your videos, you are so good.
Can you make a video about specific paterns of play, I mean service patterns, etc.
You're one of the best few coaches!!
Wow, thanks!
I love this channel and look forward to your lessons.
That is great to hear! Thank you for supporting me!
I am surprised that you couldn't win a Grand slam, because you are so good and still you are physically so fit.
Keep up a good job.
You are the only girl coach on UTUBE.
Thx
Ptince
Thanks for the compliments but I have to admit that I was nowhere near to good enough to winning a GS. I do think though that I could have been better than #27 if I hadn't gotten injured.
Congratulations on reaching the 1.000 + subscriptions 🎾💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
As a high school tennis coach I frequently relate to other sports my athletes have played. Basketball has great crossover skills for playing the net in tennis. I B Ball you learned to split step before or to anticipate a change in the direction your moving. I B Ball you want to drive to the basket like you go to the net. Making a layup requires touch like placement on a volley. When I teach Kids Ten and Under Tennis I get the Lids up near the net and teach them to them to “ take it in the air like they just don’t care”. So many players are afraid of mistakes so they are afraid to go in their the net. You got to hit lots of volleys to get comfortable. I always start Tennis Team practice with Mini Tennis in the service box to develop control and placement. Players need to develop a feel for their strings and the tennis ball. You got to do the drills to build the skills. Practice the way you want to play.
Yes, I agree!
Great Video. Love how Meike focuses on the footwork of Volleys as well. Most coaches teach you the upper body motion but ignore the legs. Really helps!
Just uploaded another short that works on the footwork as well :-)
Every shot in tennis requires proper and effective footwork. It you are off balance your inefficient and likely to miss. The volley requires precision and placement so it all starts with your footwork.
volleys=footwork
Let's say bodywork. We want to do as least as possible with the arms. Great video as always Meike. Totally agree as always and you have such a clean, fun and thorough way of explaining the matter. Keep going! 🙌🏻
World class volleys. 👍
Thank you!
great vid
Thank you!
Great video, on the amateur level I’ m at we are too many trying to « arm » our volleys 👍
Yes, but it happens to great players, too. When they get tired for examples.
Coach i usually play doubles most of the time and im just wondering how far would i stand in front of the net when im attacking or defending, is there a sweet spot in front of the net or it varies depending the level of your opponent
i think i have a decent (backhand) volley, but sometimes on very fast and low incoming balls to the backhand i must do something very wrong because i do not even hit the ball. still haven´t found out what it is. i think it´s important to follow the ball with the head and look till the contact point. do you have a video on this? all the best from germany
I'm actually working on another volley video right now so stay tuned.
Hi just subscribed. Lots of good videos.
I tend to use an eastern back hand grip (bevel 1) for my volley. Is this ok?
Thanks for subscribing! Ideally, you'd have a continental grip for both forehand and backhand. If you have an eastern on your backhand volley you might pop balls up on the FH volley since your rackethead could be open. If that is not the case, do you switch to a continental for your FH volley (which might be a problem if you have no time)?
@@MeikeBabelTennis thanks for the reply. Yes I do switch to a continental for a FH volley. It feels like the racquet is too open on a BH volley with a continental grip. PS your 10 mistakes doubles makes video was great stuff you don’t see on RUclips that often.
The other day my friend was feeding balls from the baseline to volley. It seemed I had easier time volleying and had more control, if I kept racquet head upright at contact and hit outside edge of tennis ball on both forehand volley and backhand volley. Just curious if this is something I should focus on, when hitting the volley? Notice if I am not set up right, or hit late, and hit the back of ball, I am unable to control it as well. Any advice.
If by upright you mean neutral then yes you can probably really punch through the ball. A lot of players open the racketface too much and then lose control. However, if you get low volleys you will have to open the racketface a but more because you need to lift the ball a bit to get it over the net.
I think I’m the worse at chopping my volleys ☹️ any tips for breaking that horrific habit?
It seems like your “short” video position #1 is right for heavily hit, low balls in men’s doubles. There is virtually no take back. High balls are easier. Sure, your technique might allow position #2, but you are pro. The angle you have for racket face would fly 3 court-lengths.
2hander volley? Never see it before.
