Im from Ada, Oklahoma I grew up there and as tiny girl had to go to PaPaws cellar, he had shelves of canned jars, water etc , a bed ,some lanterns, flashlights,a sofa, blankets, toy and books for us grandkids, It was in the yard with a concrete pad with a door you went down steps to safety. That was back in the 50's 60's. 😊
We have a storm shelter in our garage under the concrete floor. Maybe think about how quick you want to get to the shelter during the night. During the day you are paying attention to the storms and can make it to a shelter rather quickly. During the night you will be sleeping and may not have as much time to seek shelter. Once you have a family you will need to gather the kids too. If one of you are home alone with the kids it will be one parent gathering up sleeping children and running them to shelter. Our daughter is a single mom and has to grab one sleeping child and put them in the shelter in her garage and then grab the other. Small sleeping children don’t wake up as easily as adults and may slow things down. We chose inside our garage because it’s close and we can get to it quicker during the night. We have grandchildren and we don’t want to have to run outside in a storm to the shelter. You don’t know what debris may be flying when seeking shelter. Since you are still in the planning stages…this is a good time to think about a shelter! It’s really good that you are thinking about it now.
We have our storm shelter inside our barndo. We keep blankets pillows coats boots a few folding chairs and freezer. Along with a file cabinet with important stuff. We try to think of what we would need after we would have to run for it !! We built (started) 3 years ago. It's been done for a year and half now. We did everything that we thought we could handle. It is ALOT of work but we're so proud !! Have fun and WORK HARD ! If you don't.... it wont get done ! We promised ourselves we would not stop until the last piece of trim was done !
"Storm Shelter?" ABSOLUTELY 💯 9:55 %. Seeing you in that oversized aluminum can, under the table, with your motorcycle helmet on, scared $hitless...I thought for sure that would be your next must have on the homestead. I was surprised it wasn't. We left earthquake land 5 yrs ago. The 1st thing we bought [besides the house] was a saferoom and installed it in the garage. Yes, better to have something than not have anything. Keep your helmets close by. Our old ones are in the saferoom. Dont forget a 5 gal bucket with a toilet seat & TP!!!!
Storm shelter can be away from house but a lot of times I have always seen them close to the house. I guess for carrying food, a sick child or animal, last minute run from house to shelter. I think its smart to be close in case you go into it i the dark and no power.
Very good idea a storm shelter. I live on the isle of Wight off the south coast of England and we got our first tornado warning. The week before I saw out to sea a water spout tornado. The weather is really changing. Best of luck with your build and all your other plans.
Love to hear rain hitting tin roofs. Animals look well and behaving nicely while you fed them Danielle . I know it’s not necessary to say this, but all that dirt now will turn to mud, as winter comes in. Guess you should get some old hay bales to spread on top. Will be several months before grass can be sown… unless you do winter rye for cover, but that should have been done a bit earlier. Storm shelter is a smart idea there.
I think that a storm shelter is a great idea. I also think that if you strap the grain bin to the concrete pad and put shutters on the windows that your home will automatically become a shelter. If you're looking at a separate shelter, find a location that's easily accessible in
As long as you can reach it quickly from the house. What an awesome storage for your canning and supplies. You could plant a garden and fruit trees around it. So much fun to watch. Make sure the goats and dogs can get in lol.
Glad your getting a storm shelter. I think you should either do a stand up 1 in the house or at least really close by because if it gets bad at night & you don't have a lot of time it will be easier to get too.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re doing a tornado shelter. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one worried about you when Chrissy was calling you about the tornado warnings. ❤❤❤
Storm shelters dont necessarily need to be in the ground. Ya'll could build a safe room, or shelter in the back yard and make it look like an outbuilding. Ppl build safe rooms in their houses here in Florida all the time. Vertical rebar every 8", concrete floor and walls, no problem. I'd build one and make it look like a corn crib or something. Love ya'll ❤️
Jason, the cellar needs to be on high ground to help keep the water out but not too far from the house. You want it pretty close, so you don't get blown away running through mud & standing water in low areas either. A thicker foundation will help with walls cracking. X's &
Love 💕 the idea of a storm shelter Jason you shaved 🪒 Danielle you look so beautiful love 💕 from Ohio Irene and god bless I love 💕 all the animals there so cute
From what you said i think your shelter idea sounds pretty good to me. Higher ground, close but off to the side a bit, makes sense. One thing about the rain you had, it was great to compact that soil for the pad down good. Yeah, it slows things down, but you have to take the small blessings right? A respite from cooking in the heat felt pretty good too i bet. Small blessings, small blessings. 😃
Definitely when you live in Tornado Alley you would be smart to have a storm shelter. My son’s house in Missouri has survived two direct hits! Thankfully the house has about 14 inch reinforced concrete walls and a wonderful full basement. I saw a neat storm shelter a guy dug that doubles as a root cellar/food storage pantry. It stays cool in the summer and above freezing in the winter.
I have one I put mine in the bank so my husband could go in with his wheelchair and close to my daycare. If I could do it again since I’m by myself now I’d still want in the bank since I’m 75 I’d do it closer to my house. I have to go out to the daycare and play yard to get to the shelter. If a storm comes up at night unless one of my kids come over I’m not getting out and take a change to falling. I have neighbors across the road but they couldn’t see if I fall down. I’d say closer is better. If I could afford it I’d put one under my porch since I have one the length of my trailer.
Do it like CBR and put it under your slab. You could put it in a closet or something. Good idea figured you would have started one already after that one night in the camper when Danielle was gone.
Put the storm shelter where there are the least amount of trees, so a tornado doesn't blow one over the roof of the storm shelter, and trap you inside.
Storm shelter should be closest to your house as possible because if you get awoken from your sleep because of a freek tornado, you're not having to track all the way across the block to a storm shelter. Thinking ahead and your going to be getting your children out of the house to a storm shelter. Shorter trip the better. That's just my thoughts and you did ask for our opinions. PS. Happy birthday, Danielle 🎉🎂🍰
Looks like you got a bit of a flat on your mower. Glad to hear about the storm shelter. I’d try and keep the pigs closer to the barn instead of in your mutual area leaving that for your shelter, possible pool and maybe a green area for recreation like you tried to do at the other ranch. Horseshoes, volleyball, croquet or possible play yard if you have a child.
Danielle and Jason, The Crocker Life has become one of my favorite channel of all of your channels to watch. I love to watch Daniell feeding all the animals and interacting with them, she is so good to them all . Getting to see all the animals always make me smile.🦃🐔🐥🐷🐐🐖🐖🐓👍😊❤️
It will be interesting how much time people will say is the average warning time they have had to get into their shelters before one has hit? You almost need to ask the ones that have been through a tornado? Then where you plan to build it would you be close enough to it?
you don't want a storm shelter where a tree or structure can fall on it if you have really strong winds or a tornado any of these things can block your only way out. Just something to think about. j
I'll say this ,having storm shelter closer to you and your family better off you all will be,that comes with experience,. Not just blowing my mouth. And having dogs close by is smart, they can sense things most of us can't they know stuff before it happens, my dog remains very close by me most of the time. I didn't make it to my age ,without my family& dog. As some will say, but to me my dog is my alarm to anything that can come as harm,he is family to me. People talk some crazy stuff.if they live long enough they'll hopefully learn before it's too late... just saying.yeah I talk bold& bluntly, but I have learned. I was in a tornado @ young age of family of 10,not some one just blowing smoke. Good luck to you all
In a middle location from all zones of your property is perfect (which is where the dog area is). Make sure it is large enough for you two and all of your pups!! But what ever you decide this cheerleader (ahem cough cough, cheerleader in my mind) is there for you both! ~PEACE
living in tornado alley you definatly need storm shelter. I think anywhere close on your property will suffice but you must have one based on where you live. Glad you are being proactive about it!
Jason, please build Danielle her house before it snows. Or don’t sell the house in the town before it snows. It just sounds like your thought process is to build as many outbuildings, shop, chicken coup and storm shelter before you build Danielle her house. She deserves the house you promised her three years ago. Here’s an idea; leave the green bin where it is and put a brand new house on that upcoming concrete slab. That green bin actually looks cool on that deck you built, and Danielle deserves a proper home after waiting and being patient with you. Focus on the new house even if you have to hire a contractor to build it for you. That would be content we would want to see.
It will all work out and will be fantastic. You have good ideas and everything will be better than you expected. For you guys and the area your in YES a storm shelter great idea.👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
I can't give advice on a Strom shelter, but someone will say what they have experienced. I like how you want your living area if the property. Thank you for sharing till next time God Bless.
I’m so thankful you’re finally getting a storm shelter!!!! I wished you had gotten one immediately when you moved on to the property!! I’m such a worrywart I would have slept in the storm shelter every night through tornado season 🤣🤣 And YES I think putting it over where the dog houses are is a great idea, it seems like a pretty central location!!
Hi Jason how you doing hi Danielle you guys okay today what's going on you guys arguing I hope not you guys need to get together and work out the projects guys got to work it out love you guys
A 20 foot shipping container that is heavily-bolted down to a concrete pad aint' goin' anywhere. No need to get fancy and bury something. Even better, a 40 footer can be divided so you can put the animals in one end. As long as it is seriously tied to the concrete pad all should be good. 'Should be'.
So many changes to design. Now dogs moving then pigs then you guys. I'm still watching though. Maybe by next 🎄 Christmas everything will line up. If Danielle gets pregnant maybe it will light a fire 🔥 under ya and get seriously moving on permanently settling.

So glad your doing a storm shelter and putting that grain bin on cement

FINALLY !!! a storm shelter ❤❤❤❤
Yes make yourselves a storm shelter for you too that’s a great idea
We just ordered our storm cellar, should be here this week.
Love to hear rain hitting tin roofs. Animals look well and behaving nicely while you fed them Danielle . Central to where most activities happen, sounds pretty good... hallelujah!

Sounds good to me. Do that storm shelter. Have a wonderful day. ❤❤❤
Looking good guys. Take your time get the water in where u need to and the electricity then the cement and your home free.
Totally Agree on spot for storm shelter!! Nice Video!!!! 🤗❤️👍🙋🏻♀️
Wise to get a storm shelter, I wish I had one but we live in a mobile home in a park.😊❤
As long as you can reach it quickly from the house. What an awesome storage for your canning and supplies. You could plant a garden and fruit trees around it. So much fun to watch. Make sure the goats and dogs can get in lol.

I am so glad you are doing a storm shelter!! Sounds like putting it where those dog houses are would be a good central spot! Take care! ❤😊✌️
Storm shelters great idea. 💡
Storm shelters are pretty necessary in some areas. Oklahoma definitely is such an area. Lived there many years.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re doing a tornado shelter. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one worried about you when Chrissy was calling you about the tornado warnings. ❤❤❤

I think you are so right Jason and it will better and safer for you all
Hello you both ❤❤and all the wonderful animals
I like that location for the shelter.
Watch keeping it Dutch episode of having a storm shelter installed> He is also from Oklahoma. I think he said it was 5 thousand dollars.

Jason you need to put up slidding rails on your barn so you can put your stuff inside for the winter, you can build them door

Storm shelter It is Oklahoma. Sounds like a necessity. Stay safe.
Storm shelter great idea !
Let’s go!
Watch Cold Beers video. He put the storm shelter right under one of his bedrooms.
That is what you have mirrors for, to see behind you, they work very well❤️😆
Do it like CBR and put it under your slab. You could put it in a closet or something. Good idea figured you would have started one already after that one night in the camper when Danielle was gone.
I live in Ohio, so we don’t have storm shelters here, but I would think close to the house would be better. I’m confident you guys have this👍
I'm in Ohio also. Some people do have storm shelters but most people have basements.
Hello 🤗👋❤❤❤❤❤❤
You’ll figure it out jason❤😊❤
Will I agree, better safe then sorry
Put the storm shelter where there are the least amount of trees, so a tornado doesn't blow one over the roof of the storm shelter, and trap you inside.

Why don't you buy a mini escavator
You going to pay for it? Haha

Another great idea for you all! Great spot as well!😊

Your pad needs the rain. I would put a sprinkler on it. A pad should at least sit for a year. I know with your videos you not going to do that. 😅
It’s ok it’ll all work out!😊
