I like the veiled criticisms: "Says designed by Apple California...but made somewhere else..." "Like every Apple product it has a different connector, so you can't use your iPhone connector or whatever else you might have..."
I tested one at an Apple Store and can confirm, it is mind blowing. But I think it will be a niche product at least for now, because of cost and lack of practical applications.
I don't think it's gonna take very long for the porn/hentai industry to unlock the full capacity of this thing. 😏 Then the others will just copy that code.
I wanted to enter, but I don’t have $50 to spend on a coffee cup just to get one entry. 😏

AR and VR are serious contenders for training applications.
Impressive. Loads of potential for developers with this. Admittedly a steep price, but for simulation and 3d design, the immersion factor is likely well worth paying for. Imagine what an architect could do with this paired with something like Unreal Engine 5 when prospecting clients. Or engineering meetings for mechanical engineers. It definitely has a niche.
I don't worry about going to my car with the goggles,I live in Florida😁😉.

Hello Ward, I thought you might be interested that the USS New Jersey, BB62 is in drydock right now for the first time in over 20 years. As you know, battleships like the New Jersey have played a critical role in naval aviation. From ship borne observation to cruise missiles to RPV's (know as drones now). Pretty spectacular event for historical US Navy preservation this past week in Philadelphia.
One technical problem: I have an uncontrolled eye movement that probability won't work with this. Or any eye focus camera that I have tried. My eyes move too fast and don't stop where I'd like

Ward, I love these tech videos of yours, for they often give a nice segway into a larger point. Here, you brought up a point you only spoke of briefly in the video, but I want to widen the breach into, and that is the training possibilities of augmented reality, as in the SAM situation you spoke of, where augmentation of HMD in SEAD training could display a target site to attack, and SAMs to evade. You have seen the possibilities in ACM training with DCS. I want to start with a historic analogue, and then I will make my point...
During the 1944 Pacific war, then-Commander Richard O' Kane of the USS TANG, would drill his target tracking and fire control party with the charts of a prior engagement, a pre-briefed sailor standing by the sonar shack with an electric razor, and the mic to the 1MC to simulate the target's propellers when the sonarman would wheel around to the target bearing....the tracking party would have to track and engage the target using the TDC and the sound generated bearings. These results could be compared with the chart of the actual engagement...The point is Admiral O'Kane made the scenario as real as he possibly could, and did rather well under 1944 wartime conditions, in a dank and wet diesel-electric submarine. My point is that nothing has changed. We owe it to the people we entrust with our national security to provide the most accurate and realistic training we could possibly provide. That has always been the job, and what you are holding is merely one more iteration of the spirit that impelled O'Kane to come up with an electric razor as a TRAINING AID!

This seems like it would be a great headset for DCS. You use your hands as a mouse? That eliminates the need for throttles and joystick.

I am reminded of a scifi short-story I read twenty-plus years ago. Don't remember what it was about, but the line about future traffic laws having a rule about "...not crossing the street in a state of virtual reality" stayed with me, and springs to mind now that the tech is here and Ward said "walking while checking my email". Lol.
This reminds me of Kane in Alien.
I wonder if this technology could be used to help a person with deteriorating vision such as in the case of macular degeneration.

Thanks for the review Mooch. I have been getting the notices from Apple since I'm a Mac guy, but the price is crazy; I know, early in the marketing and they need to recoup their R&D costs.
Would be nice to know how they work with your DCS rig.

Entrepreneurs are always trying to find a way to monetize Apple. I think Apple’s tight control over their brand and no sponsorships really tick off influencers. Kudos to you for using the one Apple product giveaway to entice multiple people to purchase one of your products.
To be honest the only thing that blows my mind regarding these goggles/toy, is the fact that people are dropping $3500 bucks to get a set!
Does the "screen" require some kind of fitting to a particular person's head size and vision?
I can only imagine how good DCS and other simulators will be once we get to 4th or 5th generations of this Apple VR system and others like it !!
Hello Ward, Very interesting piece of gear. I’m not much into VR, however I couldn’t help but notice the stringed instruments behind you. I’m wondering do you own any Martin guitars? I retired from the company after close to 33 years. I enjoy your podcasts keep up the good work. (PS my late father was a 26 year USN veteran).
I’ve used Oculus Rift S and Quest 2. The Rift S requires connecting to a computer. However, it doesn’t have a battery in it, so it’s lighter and cooler. Also, it uses a halo headband so it doesn’t press the goggles to your face, but rests them on your head, somewhat like a helmet. Goggles are only comfortable for about 20 mins. Only problem is its lower display resolution. I still use it, though.
I wish the Quest 2 or 3 would come without a battery…even if it needed a separate power cable. That would make it lighter. Like a higher resolution Rift S. But then have an optional mount to mount it on an ABS plastic “pilot” helmet or most any open-face motorcycle helmet (which aren’t very expensive, but have nice comfortable padding inside and could have ear phones and a microphone mounted in it.)
How long will it take till pressure cooker review?
Is it a good one? (I love to cook.)
I am just waiting for the day it's hopefully able to be hooked in to DCS or MSFS, some 3rd party dev will probably have to do it.
Hey Mooch! It seems to me that this tech (or something close to it) would making driving GPS much safer. Sort of like HMDS nav queuing for your Uber driver. Another Great video my dude. Thanks for your service🫡 🤘

It's definitely possible to use this with SteamVR already, I've watched people play Half-Life: Alyx with it recently. IIRC it's being done though ALVR wireless streaming (the USB port is just 480MBit/s USB2 rated BTW, as always with Apple unless it's one of their MacBooks) and AFAIK Guy Godin is working on bringing his Virtual Desktop (the best wireless streaming tool for standalone headsets) to the Vision Pro as well.
The real question is: How much GPU Oomph does the insane resolution require? XD
BTW the FOV is worse than on VR headsets that are made for gaming. Someone I watched using it took off the face gasket completely to get to Quest 2 levels of FOV. Not exactly comfortable, though.

Kudos to you for having an open mind to what’s clearly ahead of us all. New ideas or implementations aren’t for everyone. Nice review from a man who knows high value technology. Maybe they should take away advanced HUD visors from all of our fighter pilots. Too bad F-35, F-22, F-15, F-x… drivers. Back to binoculars.

Come… people spend all sorts of money on worthless crap, all the time… the money argument is specious. If one can afford one and wants one, buy it. If neither, don’t. Simple. This is so much more than a VR headset. Within a year it will work on everything if their developers allow it.
