i want to thank you for posting this great DIY, saved me a lot of money on the install. took me about 20 min to remove it and 10 min to install the new bumper (didnt break any tabs and was my first time doing this)..... great great DIY for those willing and not scared to do it. the tabs are a little difficult but once you remove the first one you will do the others just fine.
I took off my e90 bumper yesterday I must say this v9min video can be shortcut in 1min or so. Also, to loosen the side pads you don't need to wiggle with a knife or something like that, you only need to pull on the bumper backwards quite hard and then wiggle it a bit and it loosens by itself. The clips are made so they loosen up when you pull the bumper backwards. Offcourse remove all the screws as shown in the video before you start pulling the bumper. Took me half hour for first time.
Thanks for adding this video...tonight I left a gravel parking lot and the lip was steep entering the road and I messed up a few connection points on the skin of my 2001 Honda Accord rear bumper...the one at the top front left side and the one below the left tail light nearest the trunk door...I may have some stripped parts...and trying to figure out the cheapest way to make it right...the bumper is perfect so it's just those tabs and or screw parts I need to fix...
That's an excellent insight to the secret of unclipping those tabs. Well Done and take some serious brownie points for making this video and posting it up.
Good vid mate, saved those shitty tab slots for me. I bent the end of my kitchen knife about 3mm from the end on a 45 degree angle. Now have an ideal 'tab unclipper'.
Hey quick question man, someone hit my rear bumper and there is a little crack, i have a 2007 335i coupe, and ordered in a m tech bumper, is it just as easy to put the bumper pack on? and will the m3 bumper fit just fine? thanks
I worked on my bumper for a few hours with no luck. I went back to searching the web and found a great way to remove the bumper without breaking anything. The clips are sloped so just pull the bumper to the rear of the car and all the clips release. The skin fell in my lap.
@portermorrison No i do not. But the black hooks have an angle in the forward end of them, so they are getting pushed down in the right way if you just drag the bumper backwards to remove it :) Works great, thats the way BMW themselves does it.
Do not follow this poster instructions. Not trying to diss him, but you'll likely do more damage than good. I tried to follow his lead for 3 hours then found the damn thing will slide off (with some grunt). Remove screws as directed. Remove rear lights. Unhook tabs under the tail lights with a plastic body tool. I then sprayed some WD40 along the fascia seam and into the black clam-like devices holding the fascia under the lights. Grab the fascia behind the front wheel and anywhere else you can apply rear-ward pressure and massage it until it slides off. The hooks that grab the tabs are beveled to allow the fascia to slide backward, but the some WD40 helps the sliding process.
"behind rear wheel" not front wheel. Also, there are a couple of tabs between the bottom and top edges of the fascia. They will release as you jiggle the fascia rearward.
+John Ranalletta I was removing my rear bumper on E92 yesterday. I do confirm, your solution works excellent! All you need to do is release tabs under rear lights first, then grab the bumper behind rear wheel and put backward pressure. And that's it - bumper is deattached. Do the same for the other side. No broken tabs!
@sussertheoriginal Thanks and you are welcome. Might take the front bumper next week or so to repaint the bottom grill. So, stick around if you're interested on that DIY.

Don't follow this instruction! May work but too much work. Just get out all screws, grab the bumper behind the back wheel and pull backwards. I never did anything on any car. And today i tried it by myself. No broken taps. 30 minutes of work. There's a video with an asian guy doing it. Thats the way it works :))
About to do this also. To all you guys saying just pull backwards on the bumper, does that mean I don't have to take the tail lights out? Or do they still need to come out?
Today i have taken the bumper of to change på a M-tech one. I must inform everybody here that this is THE WRONG WAY to take the bumper of. You do not ned to push down the black plastic hooks to get it of. You just push the whole bumper backover. Backward! When you do that, the hooks gets forced down and you can easy take it of the car. After you have remowed the bumper you will se why this happens. The hooks are made with an angle on the side.
this is not the right procedure to unclip the side tabs. Once released all screws, the rear lights and unclipped the bumper under the rear lights just let it slide backwards. All side tabs will unclip without any risk to brake them
@g31n3z3w5k1 I have to install a rear bumper cover on my 525i 1995... Im pretty sure its easier for the older models. or else mine wouldnt of came off in the first place
NOT the way to do it. See the video by 'VanOnDemand' - you take all the bolts out and then pull back on the bumper and it slides off the clips easily without breaking anything
Thanks for posting this. Now I have an idea of what, exactly, whomever I choose to do my bumper repair will have to do!

Damn it! i found this vid after breaking 2 of the tabs on my bumper cover... I will probably need a new one now.
I worked on my bumper for a few hours with no luck.

What was the reason for removing the bumper? Are you install an aftermarket diffuser kit?

Is there anyway to adjust the tabs along the side so that it's more flush with the rear quarter panels?
do you have to remove the taillight to remove the bumper
Thanks for this buddy!
good job
how much does a new rear bumper go for?
THanks.... My insurance company sent my car to this shit place..they have no chance to get this done.
this is not the right procedure to unclip the side tabs. Once released all screws, the rear lights and unclipped the bumper under the rear lights just let it slide backwards. All side tabs will unclip without any risk to brake them
Aaah...so that's why u can't make it to the Gulfport meet.
@Nisse977 do you have a video?

It doesn't take more than 25-30 min.
