just built one today with pocket holes and made shelf and top from 7/16 OSB. Very easy and saves my 66 year old back from moving the planer to and from shelf. Thanks!
I am 65 year old grandma who started woodworking about 10 years ago. I just built myself a large workbench on casters with my table saw build in the end and a shelf on the bottom. I am almost done building a miter saw cart with wings and casters. I have a tiny shop, so I am thinking this will help with space. I am so glad you are doing this because you are a well respected woodworker and I was getting ribbed about my mobile cart ideas, now I can shove your video under their noses lol all in fun of course
I am a 65 year old grandpa who just took up woodworking about 2 yrs ago. I’m in a small shop as well, and carts are a GREAT idea, they let you move things where and when you need them. Every large power tool I have is on a cart. Best wishes in your quest!!!
Marc, Thanks. Built the cart over the past few days, made a couple of mods based on the wood I had on hand, but no major changes. Finished it just now. Lifted my planer off of its normal home. I'd always looked at using it with a bit of dread concerning the lifting off and back on to it's shelf. The cart takes care of that. Excellent build...Thanks juvat
Marc, I've been following you for a couple years now. This build actually came right down to MY level, and I thank you for that! The rest, are things I shall continue to strive for. You and yours have a happy Thanksgiving!
Oh look another Jackery sponsored video. Jk. I really am enjoying your moving to a new house and shop videos. I realize you guys need and want sponsors. Thank you Mark. Please keep the good content coming our way.
Very opportunistic ...am currently trying to find somewhere to put that exact same tool in my workshop....looks like i CAN fit it in after all. Thanks 😃
I was just telling my Bride that need to build a cart for my planer. Thanks for sharing a quick, simple but sturdy stand. I downloaded the plans, so thanks for that to. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thanks for this project. It came at just the right time. I modified the dimensions for my particular needs and and put it together in two afternoons over the weekend. Thanks.
Marc, those little generators are life savers! I've had one (but not a Jackery) for the last 3 years, and it has saved my posterior through multiple power outages caused by ice storms, etc. It has recharged my cell phone and run some lights and other things during multi-day power outages. But be sure to have it fully charged up in advance when you know that a bad storm is headed your way! For me, living out in the country is nice, but you are low man on the list when it comes to restoring power after a storm. Thanks for this video, I now have some new uses for my generator!
Made one today in a couple of hours to hold my benchtop oscillating sander. Still need to add the casters (arriving tomorrow) and I might add a small wood trim around the top to cover the raw edge of the white melamine top. I didn't have drill bits long enough to drill through the long edge of the 2x4's (squared up on the table saw to 3" wide) so I used pocket screws instead. Looks great and will serve me well for a long time while freeing up work bench space. Love watching your videos... helped greatly when it came time to tune up the rebuilt 1939 6" jointer that was given to me.
I'm a master cabinetmaker myself. I have 2 complete sets of tools. A complete set (the box of many things) that I use at work. I also have a rolling tool chest and my old shop made tool chest (use it as a top chest for my home rolling tool chest). What I don't have since leaving Michigan are a lot of shop tools. I have a small 9" delta band saw and a 10" bench top drill press. My goal for the coming year is to purchase a contractor's saw and a planer so I can start doing "real work" at home.
Obviously your fine furniture making is your bread and butter, but these down and dirty, practical projects are nice to see. I need a lot of help with organization, so these are perfect for me.
Great video Marc. This planer stand is much more portable and easier for me to fit in my shop than that Felder “planer stand” you have been using lately ;)
Great timing as I am planning on building several mobile tool stands. I also just got a domino joiner and maybe this is the project to practice that technique.
Reminds me of my beginning. I was the 2x4 man. I’ve have replaced so many Douglas for projects in my house. I made them years ago and I look at them now and want to burn them.
Question (something I’ve often wondered): When making a cart for an extra heavy tool, does it matter if the vertical pieces go top-to-bottom as in your build? Or, have the horizontal pieces lay across the vertical ones so as to spread the load? Or, it just doesn’t matter?
It matters a lot. You want the weight to be transmitted to the ground via the wood, not via screws that can break. A way to think about it is that your cart should basically stay standing with no screws or glue, just the wood alone should be sufficient. For a good example, look up DIY aquarium stands as aquariums are very heavy. There is a fairly standard 2x4 design that people build for their aquariums.
So today I'm building my 2nd mobile tool stand for my belt/disc sander. Used pocket hole screws in the last one, doing so this time too. Anyways, I see you're using the Metabo 10" miter saw. I have one as well, how do you like it? It's supposed to have a motor brake but I think mine failed, and only had it a few months. Also, are those Harbor Freight clamps or who's? Thanks!
Great build. I have a SawStop Job site saw for my small garage shop. The gravity rise cart is too large once setup and the handles get extended. I built a shorter, wider version of that cart using mostly scrap. To save time though, I purchased a pre-glued up pine slab from a big box store for the top and cut it down to just fit the saw dimensions with some overhang for stability. The price at the time was comparable to 2 x 4's for a top which this saw would have required.
Was all the lumber previously jointed and thicknessed? Most 2x4's I've ever used had a twist in them, even if ever so slight. Enough that when I would join four together like those end pieces, it would be warped and not flat.
Excellent and quick build! I need to get out and do the same thing. I'd like to know how top-heavy your setup is now and how you might address it not tipping (weight on the bottom shelf?). Ask me how I know! I hope that you and your family have a safe and wonderful holiday!
Is this where we have to ask about the Kapex? I believe it's traditional. Thanks for this Marc. I need to make a new stand for my bench grinder and don't really have the time to get fancy.

Such an amazing hand-made tool stand, love it!!😍😍 Happy Thanksgiving for your accompany with us along the way and the genius ideas you brought to us!😄
If your garage floor , like mine isnt flat consider only using three casters as it wont cause that rocking..
Happy Turkey Day!
It's humbling to see that even Marc can slum it like the rest of us.
LOL! I think it was more of a choice. He could have drive to the shop to do it but garage it is 🤣
It’s hideous! 😂 Love it.
Definition of “humbling”…lower of dignity or importance. I’m curious…how is this humbling? Just curious.
This is beer out of a can before you even walk through the front door, slumming.
I appreciate every single Christmas vacation clip used, just fantastic work!
just built one today with pocket holes and made shelf and top from 7/16 OSB. Very easy and saves my 66 year old back from moving the planer to and from shelf. Thanks!
I like how a planer is considered a basic tool for small house projects 😂

This is my third watch of this video. I might make the stand someday, but it’s the Christmas Vacation edit that keeps me coming back.
Gotta love these missouri cold fronts. High of 20s.... then boom back to the 60s the next week.
You sir, are a reference genius! Oh, and it’s refreshing to see you using tools that the normal home diy guy would have.
Thank you for supporting the best holiday movie ever made!
My favourite woodworker and my favourite movie.
I used your plans to build a stand for my drill press. It came out great. Thanks!
It's not really Christmas until Marc pulls out the the "Christmas Vacation" clips.
Simple, from the known to the unknown-EXCELLENT teaching
The Griswold inserts are on point, this is the comedy I need in my wood working!
The Christmas Vacation force is strong with this one 👍
I don’t think I have ever had so much fun watching one of your videos! Thanks it made my day.
I really enjoyed this video. Jackerty aside. Hope to see more like this. Wish I could hit the like button a few times.
Marc,

Now I want to watch Christmas vacation.
The rare WW build that I can make!!
Marc, I've been following you for a couple years now. This build actually came right down to MY level, and I thank you for that! The rest, are things I shall continue to strive for. You and yours have a happy Thanksgiving!
XMAS Vacation overload! Love it
Best little planer on the market. And with that the Shitter is Full.
I've got three carts very similar to this in my garage shop. Super handy for larger tools in smaller spaces. No need to get fancy. Thanks for sharing!
Christmas Vacation is easily the best Christmas movie of all time.... SQUIRREL!!!!
Hey! "Pine is fine".. Thanks Marc!
This is a project on my to do list I don't have a stand for my planner I always have to move it around when I need it, thanks for making it simple.
Oh look another Jackery sponsored video. Jk. I really am enjoying your moving to a new house and shop videos. I realize you guys need and want sponsors. Thank you Mark. Please keep the good content coming our way.

Nice stand, love the edit on this one
LOVE the little interspersed 'commentary'.........
Christmas Vavation...one of the best movies. Thanks for the laughs Marc. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and family.
Great video thank you for sharing your awesome project with us today. Stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Always good to reference Christmas Vacation!
I was just telling my Bride that need to build a cart for my planer. Thanks for sharing a quick, simple but sturdy stand. I downloaded the plans, so thanks for that to. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
You make it look so simple. Thanks.
Thanks for this project. It came at just the right time. I modified the dimensions for my particular needs and and put it together in two afternoons over the weekend. Thanks.
Nice build! For that, you get a one-year membership to the Jelly of the Month Club. 😉
That's the gift that keeps on giving, the whole year!!!

That was a fast easy build, good job
Absolutely great editing. Fun project and I was laughing while watching.
Jackery is hittin the market hard with ads lately haha. Seeing them a lot
Love the editing! Great video.
I always appreciate your videos and learn something new from each one. Thank you again for a great one!

Metabo? Craftsman? Pine!?!? What world is this? Love the video, and the stand. Happy Thanksgiving from CO. 😊
This is probably one of your best videos. It could be all the Christmas vacation? 😂
Good work!
This video made my day!
Eezy peezy. Cool stuff.
Looks like the next home video will be a Miter Saw work station ! 😂
haha yeah that things a bit wobbly.
I know of a guy who built one of...oh wait...that was Marc.
thanks
Suggestion for people making small carts for heavy tools. It will be top heavy and want to tip over. Add a few bricks to the bottom as counter weight.
Top Lampoonery sir. Great little project as well 😃
Wonderful
Love the Griswalds highlights. Can we work European Vacation into the next one.
My version of this has two casters and two wooden feet... you can pick up the end with the feet and move it easily, but it stays in place when in use.
I'm a master cabinetmaker myself. I have 2 complete sets of tools. A complete set (the box of many things) that I use at work. Pretty neat work, Marc! Nicely done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Obviously your fine furniture making is your bread and butter, but these down and dirty, practical projects are nice to see. I need a lot of help with organization, so these are perfect for me.
And now i'm watching a 33 year old christmas movie end of November... Thx Marc 😛
Nice build. I definitely need to make this!
Love it! The build was cool too😊
Great video as usual for this channel. Keep up the good work! Btw I love your book as well. Kudos sir.
Thank you very much!
Great video Marc. This planer stand is much more portable and easier for me to fit in my shop than that Felder “planer stand” you have been using lately ;)
And this stand doesn't even require 3-phase!!
Great video!!
I didn't realize this would be a commercial.
One suggestion: 4” casters. Our garage has slab seams that catch 3” casters.
Great timing as I am planning on building several mobile tool stands. I also just got a domino joiner and maybe this is the project to practice that technique.
Huh. I was literally looking at my really unstable planer cart trying to think of a better (not as thrown together) design. great timing?
Fun fact: After you tighten your drill chuck, go back one click. The chuck is locked, and the bit won't fall out until you loosen the chuck.
Do you have a review on the Oliver planer?
Where do you have your plans for this build? Thank you.
It's a beaut, Clark. I mean Marc.
All the 2x4 lumber at my local big box is cupped and warpped, I am surprised you got such good results!
From experience I would also suggest bolting down the planer, it will save a lot of heartache.
Reminds me of my beginning. I was the 2x4 man. I’ve have replaced so many Douglas for projects in my house. I made them years ago and I look at them now and want to burn them.
Playing Catch up on social mediaS... did u move again?? & happy holiday to you & yours!
Guess I missed the news announcement, when did Milwaukee come out with a power hammer for straightening the base…😂
Question (something I’ve often wondered): When making a cart for an extra heavy tool, does it matter if the vertical pieces go top-to-bottom as in your build? Or, have the horizontal pieces lay across the vertical ones so as to spread the load? Or, it just doesn’t matter?

That oliver planer
To high price!

Show de bola meu amigo parabéns pelo seu trabalho ganhou mais um inscrito e deixo aquele like valeu 👍🏻👍🏻💯💯🤝
Top!
Where are there no knots in the wood? I would’ve loved to see Clark Griswold pick up a massive ball of Christmas lights and say “little knot here”.
Excellent and quick build! I need to get out and do the same thing. I'd like to know how top-heavy your setup is now and how you might address it not tipping (weight on the bottom shelf?). Ask me how I know! I hope that you and your family have a safe and wonderful holiday!
Butt joints ahoy. Love it!
I could make that too if I had all those tools. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
For a second I thought you were going to build a flipstand for the Felder. That would've been interesting.
Pretty sure the planet rotates around the Felder.
Is this where we have to ask about the Kapex? I believe it's traditional.
Thanks for this Marc. I need to make a new stand for my bench grinder and don't really have the time to get fancy.
Haha. A simple man’s mobile tool stand for a $1200+ planner powered by a $2500 battery backup. Love the contrast!
I love it. Are those magnetic hose flange connector thingamabobbers?
Next up: insulating Marc's garage so he does not freeze in the Missouri winter.
I wonder, did you have to make a run to the fire station or big box store in the middle of this build? (that would be MY experience for sure) LOL

Sorry dude but I find it funny, you complain about the cold while wearing a toque while you have your hoodie wide open. Great build.
I have to wear a microphone and it does better without a bulky jacket on. ;)
to all my usa friends celebrating today, 24/11/2022, you're welcome.
I didn't realize MilA-Wak-E made a hammer drill that small.
