The University of Chicago still play football as of 2020 but in the Division 3 level, but at the turn of the 20th century they were one of College Football's big "Western" powers. They won a national championship or two, plus they were rivals of Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the rest of the original Big 10. In addition, this team had one of the most famous college football innovators and coaches and the first Heisman Winner.
But now the program plays in Division 3, so find out who and how this program dropped in divisions and are a unknown in present day college football.

Yeah, the Stagg-Yost rivalry was a pretty good one. Yost was also a very long time coach at Michigan. The 1923 Maroons team was pretty good, one of their opponents was Michigan Agricultural College who'd later become known as Michigan State (who'd join the Big Ten in 1950). Stagg had a lot of players who would later become coaches. Great video.

Great show about a great university. In the end of film Walter Hass was mentioned bringing back football in 1963. He should be given a great deal of credit for navigating this. One of the games, the last played, at the old stadium had a sit in before the game. Signs held by students were Ban the Ball, Today North Central, the opponent, Tomorrow the Rose Bowl. But he succeeded in getting the program going again. It is a Good program and a credit to a great university. Go Maroons.

I thought this was about the Pottsville Maroons the Arizona Cardinals stole our championship and are said to be cursed until they give it back

Well, my friend, these are the University of Chicago Maroons - maybe we can get Wronged Sports to do a video about the Pottsville Maroons, because I truly believe that the NFL Cardinals are cursed; the Pottsville Maroons were wronged, and so were their fans and the City of Pottsville.

The Stagg Yost wars of the early 2000s were epic. The footage of Jay Berwanger was amazing. A superstar on a third division team.

Thanks for watching. Yost made a name for himself nationwide by beating Stagg once he got to Michigan 4 times in a row. That's why that 1905 match up is considered one of the first "game of the century" games in College football history. And I wish there was more footage in Berwanger, also I did a video on the top 10 best college football players pre-1920s and I cover Eckersall who was considered Staggs best player.

@@WrongedSports I read a book a couple of months ago “ Stagg vs Yost: The Birth of Cutthroat College Football “ and it included extensive mention of Eckerstall. His accomplishments were extraordinary and they said he may be the college football player of all time that nobody knows about.

Great video, but you mispronounced Fritz Cry-slers name (same guy that Michigan’s basketball arena is named for)
