George Lutch It does have a mild purring sound as it tracks. You have to be right up next to it to hear it. I’ve heard one or two people on forums say their MyT was loud at a star party, but honestly compared to my old CGX I think it’s nearly silent. To my ears, it is really quiet. It’s going to be in the dome while I’m on the sofa at home so it certainly won’t bother me anyway . ;)
theskyisthelimit Good question. According to TolgaAstro I was stretching things. This added up to about 120. I have since installed it in the dome and just put the main OTA and camera. That plus rings and all counterweight I am at 103 lbs. OTA + rings Focal reducer Moonlite focuser SBIG STF-8300m+ filter wheel ADM counterweights 5 lbs at front of OTA to balance weight of camera in declination 60 lbs counterweight 103 total and the spec is 100 so that hit my limit :)
Ha ha! No! It’s on a four legged stand like for a belt sander in you garage. It’s bolted to it. Very stable. That was just for mock up. In the dome now it’s on a steel pier. I’m dumb sometimes but not that crazy. I also don’t change lightbulbs standing on a rolly chair ;)
Norman McCall I got these from Parallax. He was also nice enough to space the screw holes to fit directly to the versa plate. The ones from Software Bisque look a shade nicer and maybe more sturdy but also are more pricey. Not sure if there is a weight difference. But I had to save money where I could :) Performance with these from Parallax is great. So far on my Pointing models I’m starting at 50 to 60 arcseconds spread on the rms error, and tpoint is correcting it to 10 arcseconds. I am able to find any target I ask. Together with platesolve / imagelink im hitting every target in the center and tracking good enough for unguided exposures of 240 sec. blows my old mount away!
@@davecompton8456 Thanks for the info and tip. I too made the mistake in going with the CGX-L (to hold my C11 EdgeHD) and am having the "typical" stiction problems such that it is impossible to use for any length of exposure. Your results with Paramount MyT are inspirational. I'm now saving up to purchase a MyT soon. Did some say "the mount is everything in astrophotography"?
EXPERTSinFPGA if you are using a C11 size as well I should say this. I put out another video with my rig paired down a little. Tolga from TolgaAstro and I talked on the phone a little. He warned me that with the piggyback scope I will be over the safe limit for weight because of the combination with the 60lbs counterweight. To be honest the rig here is around 120 and the spec total capacity is 100. I decided to not use the piggyback and I’ve now used both the SBIG mono and a ZWO OSC camera as alternatives on just the C11. Both camera rigs have an off axis guider with an sbig STi camera because it has a mechanical shutter for autodarks which makes finding stars for guiding easier. The mount is smooth enough I can guide with 11 second exposures if needed and still be under 1.0 arcseconds rms. My tracking is smooth and I’m not worried about long term wear and tear by being over weight. If you want much more than a C11 and camera, and you can save or wait for it, you might want the MX+. In the end I decided simplifying was best and it is giving good results.
All, I’ve been warned that I’m over the total payload capacity. I think my total is 120 and spec is 100. I don’t want to hurt the mount so I may start without the piggyback. Also, ZWO camera and focuser is back ordered anyway so I’ll walk before I run.
What a beauty!! And it does sound very quiet. Thanks for these videos, this mount looks awesome for the long term.
Very helpful and impressive demonstration! Thanks.
Congratulations Dave!
Ray's Astrophotography It’s not quite as big as your 14” but I’m pretty excited!
@@davecompton8456 LOL. We all like our Toys! Seems like a pretty good setup.
Super! Looks like your good to go 👍:)
Looks like you've about got it dialed in. Do you notice any sound coming from the mount while it is tracking?

Nice setup there, do you have a breakdown of what is on your rig listed somewhere, curious how it adds up (in weight)?

OTA + rings
Focal reducer
Moonlite focuser
SBIG STF-8300m+ filter wheel
ADM counterweights 5 lbs at front of OTA to balance weight of camera in declination
60 lbs counterweight
103 total and the spec is 100 so that hit my limit :)
Holy crap, is that a C11 on that mount balancing on a narrow chair?!

Dave, the MyT setup looks great. Where did you get the C11 Mounting Rings? Which brand?

@@davecompton8456 Thanks for the update on your setup. The MX+ is great but in CND $ it is outside of the budget.
