  • On today's episode we go on an essential WADZ UP Adventure and do some challenging riding up at Bear Creek, I wipe out at least 8 times, almost break my hand and get an opportunity to test the KTM 350 vs the FE 501. On today's video you'll hear my honest opinion after 4 years of riding the FE 501.

    I have a fe 501s and I agree in the wide open it is a monster and fun, but on tight single track it is a lot of bike. Personally (and don't flame me), my favorite tight trail bike is my tw200 geared so low you can out walk it in 1st gear. But I agree a 350 is a great bike on the twisty and steep.

    I hear you on all of it and I hope that your hand is all better...
    This coming from an Old Gal that races Moto against the Men. (little background, I raced from 1972-1986 and hung it up until 2013) I had a 2012 Yamaha WR450 that I got to trail ride "and maybe a race or two a year..." and it was a Beast of a Tank. I quickly got back on a 2013 Yamaha YZ 250 smoker and was alive again! Fast forward to 2018 when I bit the 4 stroke bullet and got My Husky FC 350, I chose the 350 over the 450 because at almost 60 in 2018 I didn't want SOO Much torque. I love it because it is so easy to ride. And I can still Holeshot the 450's.
    OK back to the subject,
    Dual Sports. I sold my 2012 Yamaha WR450 and Got a 2014 KTM 500 EXC and Walla, I'm street legal in CA!!! and can go from Home to the trail etc. It just feels a bit top heavy. My Wife has a 2019 Husky FE 450 and Loves it, it IS a lot less to handle than my 2014 KTM 500 EXC.
    Now comes the decision. I'm trading my 2014 KTM 500 EXC plus some cash for a 2020 Husky FE 350. I'll be Queen of the 350's. Ride On! 👍👍✌

    awesome video Wadz! its a good thing that you were wearing all of the safety riding gear, after 8 wipeouts all you hurt was your hand but it appears that a bucket of ice and a few beers will get you back out on the trails the next day no problem lol I cant wait to see your next video with a new 350 to review, btw I watched this on my "65 TV it looked fantastic buddy, cheers!

    I have a 2020 500 EXC so I feel you. I ride mainly California desert which is a little more open so it’s the perfect bike but when I do get into tight technical terrain it can be a handful. My bike is set up with a lot of power using a vortex ignition and an FMF 4.1. I’ve geared it way down as well so it works much better in the tight stuff. I’ve learned to really pay attention to how I roll the throttle on and off because as you said the back end can get away from you. I definitely have the bike about as good as it can get with a suspension upgrade so it is a rocket but it’s definitely usable in the tight stuff. I came off of 300 so you can imagine how long it took me to kind of learn how to ride a bigger heavier bike. Because of my size the 350 seemed like it wasn’t a great option for me so I went with the 500. I’m totally happy with the bike and have come to terms with its limitations in the very tight technical terrain. Good riding to you.

      Great intel, I’m with you. If I rode in Cali I think it would be a different story and more at home. BC trails in general are unforgiving often and you need all the light and nimble and power is lesser priority . Thanks for watching WADZ

    Not sure if your bike is the 501s or not, but mine was geared so tall that it made it hard to go slow in tight single track...I changed my sprockets from 15-45 to 14-52...made a huge difference and still run 75mph without stressing motor...

    501 is A LOT of bike for tight ST. An Athena GET with mellow map and traction control allows the 501 to tractor over some things that would otherwise be a handful. Glad you're OK and thank you for sharing.

    • @WADZUP
      @WADZUP  2 года назад +1

      Yes I hear ya my 501 had a lot of performance upgrades and was fully deleted so it was a pure beast untamed and was a handful in single track especially for me. I Don’t know if you saw some of my recent videos where I got the 2022 FX 350 , this bike has exceeded my expectations it’s an unbelievable woods weapon I just returned from revelstoke BC which has some of the most amazing technical single track with lots of rock features step ups and lots of double diamonds very demanding and the FX 350 made it look easy here’s a recent review.

    You guys should try a cr500 in the woods if you want to see a back end get away from you. The 501 is a kids bike compared to that! I used to keep my upper body built up to man handle the 500 and that’s the way to stay on top of a big bike. Ride the he$! Out of it and be the boss!!😁😁

      @WADZUP  Год назад

      Lol it may appeared so and I hear ya, looking back it was a case of hitting the wall, exhaustion and ride nutrition I.e low blood sugar and hydration. It didn’t help that I was over exerting myself with a heavier l, more torque and power than required to top it off. Having gone through it all and riding the 2022 FX350 it’s made more difficult terrain much easier without the exhaustion and overall more enjoyable long days of riding. For example that day we logged about 60 miles and 7 hours. Live and learn and each his own but this was only my experience.

  • @64maxpower

    How is your wrist? That sucker is really swollen
    Couldn't you calm the 501 down with a map or even a larger flywheel?
    I rode a 350 a few years ago. It was so good it was like cheating
    And is your bike set up well for you? There were times you were eating it and it didn't look,like it was because of too much power

    • @WADZUP
      @WADZUP  3 года назад +1

      I’ve tried a throttle tamer and gearing but the power just isn’t linear enough in the tight steeps and the steering is very heavy feeling comparatively. I find if your not in 3 or 4th and destroying the terrain the Nike feels heavy with the torque and powerful rotating mass or Inertia.
      I get what your saying and your absolutely right the footage that I had doesn’t tell the whole story. If I was fair it really only shows a tired rider making mistakes but when I switched to the KTM 350 we also increased our difficulty of terrain and it was easy going compared to the 501. I wish I had more footage but the difference I noticed was drastic. I’ve ridden 300s in 2 strokes and while the power is crisp and they are nimble I still find they have a power hit that comes on at times that you don’t want or need and to my surprise I didn’t experience that with the 4 stroke power delivery in the KTM EXC 350. Ps the hand was swollen bad eh, I wasn’t sure if you’d be able to see what I could. The hand is feeling much better especially with the arrival of the summer heat which my sore hands love lol 😆 thanks for watching hope you enjoyed!

    I find my 21 FE350 quite boring power wise. Even with a Vortex ECU & FMF Slip On. But l needed a bike that l could ride on the road as well.
    They need a FX motor in them. I've raced MX since I was a kid until my early 20's and my old KTM125SX is way quicker than my new 350.

      I actually didn't blame the bike, I said "I hurt my wrist and that was a Gong Show because well the hand hurt and I couldn't hold onto to the torque of the FE501" Meaning I was injured and exhausted. The video was purely some Pro's & Cons vs 350 and an honest review of my past years of riding the FE501 and was suited me better for my riding style. Sorry you didn't think it was cool and the free video wasn't a good return of your time!
