I’ll do the ram upgrades for you. I have experience with replacing underfilled chips on mobile phones. Normally charge like $150 for such a job but for preserving such a relic I’ll do for cost of ram chips :)
Just let me know what tools you use... I've tried an Xacto knife with no luck, as well as some special underfill tools I bought from China. Just let me know what tools and technique you use, and I'll probably be able to pull it off. Of course, I'll practice with some dead iPhone logic boards before attempting this.
Is there anything you HAVEN'T done??? Currently making a video on upgrading one of these, and of course this comes up on my feed. You impress me more every day dude!
This is amazing, seems to run macOS very well indeed. I was just thinking about this thing the other day, I had some ideas to use it for portable emulation, for stuff like C64, Amiga, etc, because it would be ideal for those as it has a built in keyboard... Hmm I think I might do that!
That's just beautiful. I'm doing another one of your Mojave ordeals (On an infuriating iMac 11,x) & found myself on your YT channel. I had a SONY UMPC for quite a while. I sold it for like $380 back in maybe 2012. They certainly hold (held) value. Not so much when you figure someone at one time paid like $2500 or w/e it was MSRP. Awesome job, dosdude!
I own actually similar Vaio (polish Era GSM release) and I'm running Arch Linux on it. It's not a good "PC" but I keep it as a little memory of my early pocket PC adventures. Nowadays I use my Trekstor Tablet PC which comes with Windows 10 and has user removable SSD and I use it mostly for office or graphic design
It sucks that Sony removed so much old drivers from their website... you pretty much can't find anything anymore! You can still find drivers for everything... except Sony's proprietary stuff!
Excellent job on a neat machine. Never seen these before. I hate when they make these things so you can't upgrade them. Laptops, and others should have it so that the CPU/RAM can be upgraded. I paid quite a bit for a really nice laptop that I can't hardly use now because they are so hard to upgrade.
Unless I miss it somewhere, I wonder whether you would mind sharing the sad and the zip to msata that you use and the wifi upgrade and other upgrades that you did with this amazing device. I bought this brand new way back when and I forgot about it until I saw your channel. Thanks for your help.
I have a VGN-UX27GN. It has no GSM stuff, instead it has a Memory Stick and a CF slot, but I could not make it boot from any of them. I wonder if it is even possible.
👍👍👍👍 and then to read all these “ Mac Pundits” telling us that 4 GB is minimum memory for a Hackintosh, but there recommendation is 16 GB! Your next challenge is to make this machine work with Win 10. It would be nice for you to provide a big picture summary on your website detailing which kexts and other modifications were necessary to make this work. Again 👍
With the limitations of not being able to upgrade the ram, I'm curious at how far you could take the machine (in Mac OS versions) with the Core 2 Duo you got. Haven't looked up the specs but I'd think at least El Capitan right? (BTW, excellent video as always!)
Oh my goodness. Do you have some Sony Vaio stuff too? I am a fan of Vaio. I have UX70, TX77, C1, U1 and R505... interesting to find the RUclipsr who have Sony and Apple 👐
What an interesting little device. Is that proprietary "Sony" port on the bottom the same as the one that the original PS Vita used? It looks VERY similar...
Wow! I have a Lenovo IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet with wacom stylus, i have problems of installing hackintosh (10.5.8) if this laptop not have dvd and old hackintosh (10.5.X) not supporting installing from usb
You had no problems to put it back together? I have a 280P and I wanted to change the thermal paste, but when I put it back together the ignition switch stopped working, if it checks, it charges the battery and if I uncap it and try to turn it on, yes It works but the green light that appears near the switch does not turn on and the mouse does not work. Before opening it it worked perfectly, any idea of it happening?
These are so cool i really want one, also 120 dollars is crazy theyre around like 730 usd in the UK. Do you know much about the batteries im wondering if cell swapping will work id imagine if i got one the battery is trash at this point lol
I bet i could give you a Nokia 3310 and you would find a way to Hackintosh it. Btw this is being written in a 2008 white macbook running Mojave thanks to you :-) Cheers.
Re the ram. Could you potentially sand or grind or otherwise remove layer by layer of the ram chip? Of course it would destroy the chip but that could be possible I believe? May wish to colab with Louis rossman
Unrelated to post however safe to assume you know your stuff. I'm wondering if I can upgrade a mid 2009 MBP cpu from duel core to i7? I have an old mid 2009 I'm willing to sacrifice if its possible. If so any links to mid 2009 to mid 2012 chipset/logic board specs? Cheers
Hi DosDude1, I have a CPU swap question for you. A Wii has a 2006-2007 90nm PowerPC Broadway 729mhz CPU, and a Pre-2007 Xbox 360 has a 90nm PowerPC Xenon 3.2Ghz CPU. Can the Xenon be put in the Wii and will it produce better results? Also, the WiiU has a 45nm 1.24GHz PowerPC Expresso, while the xBox 360 S introduced in 2010 has a 45nm PowerPC Xenon 3.2GHz CPU. Can this Xenon be put in the Wii U and will it produce better results?
I remember seeing this as a kid and being absolutely blown away, cool to see one running OS X
Same
Very impressive but why...
actually why not thats pretty amazing
@Mario never knew that the modbook existed lol. Learn something new every day
82F GDT because, science?
82F GDT why not 🤷🏾♂️lol
cause he can
Why not?
I always wanted to see one of these running Mac OS. Great work.

dosdude1 the j hook and plenty of heat. Don’t flip the chip try to slide under gradually with minimal force.
@@dosdude1 Why not send it to Louis Rossmann and ask Paul to do it?
@@ronzawora Because why should he send anything to fucking Louis of all people.
@@71bw someone dont like da louis
I wish there was a PC like this today with modern hardware. Would be pretty awesome and it could even have some power with Zen 2 and Navi graphics.
There is. Its called GPD Win
Dosdude, I LOVE YOU. Your content is so good and your contributions to this community are AMAZING. Thank you man.
Is there anything you HAVEN'T done??? Currently making a video on upgrading one of these, and of course this comes up on my feed. You impress me more every day dude!
That is the most awesome hackintosh I have seen in a very long time! Great work!

This is awesome. When tech was actually innovative and not the same, bland carbon copy over and over again with a different shell. Great work, man!
Huh I didn’t know you had a RUclips channel thanks for making the patcher tools and I look forward to more video.
This will always be my childhood PC
I swear to god every time I watch one of your videos I get more and more impressed each time...
I always liked this form factor and now there's the GPD Win 3 which is heavily inspired on this design!
i didn’t even know it was dosdude, but now that i’ve learned i’m watching this guy, i’m gonna enjoy the video so much more. you’re awesome man

What are they good for? Any smartphone is way more useful.
@@user-blabla-47854 The Vaio UMPC was a decade before a proper smartphone. Both are absolutely useless but the smartphone is peasant technology.
@@makaveli087 say that to Apple shareholders 😂
and it still run better than my ''modern hackintosh'' with a bunch of RAM. Good work man.
I don't like mac OS but your ability to make it run on other stuff than apple hardware is impressive

Very cool idea to turn this into a Hackintosh! and the future Core 2 Duo upgrade :)
Wow you are awesome. That is one one of my favorite units from a long time. Thanks for sharing. Later VPC Z1 I just upgraded mine.
I really wanted one of these things back in the day, thought it was so cool.....
love it thats really cool to see that running on something that small and portable!
Gongrats on 40k!!
Ugh, dude this is so cool. I would have killed for one of those back in the day.

What about difference of TDP u1400 and u7600, 6W vs 10W? Do you think standart cooling system is enough for that?
Always wanted to experiment with one, maybe running Android x86?
Anyhow, hello from my MacBook 2,1 running Mavericks!
this little umpc has outlived macbooks and hps manufactured in the last 10 years
Before the iPhone was released, this was the hype. before Apple completely colplased he portable pc market. This is cool seeing this portable pc.
Oh thats so cool! I would love to have an UMPC.
TO UPGRADE THE RAM CHIPS WITH UNDERFILL YOU NEED THE flexible tool to squeeze under the bga chip
cute little machine!
Sony UX Viliv S5 and Samsung Q1 should all get some of the Mac love, I am not as brave as you taking them apart
I’m so amazed at how you can reball and place large bga chip like cpus haha I cant do anything larger than an iPhone pmic without struggling
OS X looks pretty good on there, gotta say!
Awesome work!
I have a VGN-UX27GN. It has no GSM stuff, instead it has a Memory Stick and a CF slot, but I could not make it boot from any of them. I wonder if it is even possible.
I Need To Buy This Bad Boy With the Full Pack but it's Also Neat + the osx reminded me of My MacBook Pro 2011
Do you have a video on how you did the hackingtosh and double boot ?
Could you please give details of the hd upgrade and what you needed for hackintosh as I have a UX380N, thanks
Please. Sell it for me ;D
that is honestly so cool
I really wanna see it run a linux distro!
But MacOS is good too :)
I'm thinking about doing it

I'm amazed.. I'm thinking did it ever exist in Australia, I hadn't heard of such a thing
Yes. We sold them from our Press Digital store in Sydney
I remember seeing this in Best Buy in April of 2007 when I bought a velocity micro PC. I think at the time, it was like $1,600.
It's such a shame Sony put pretty modest hardware for that price. Heck, my student PC bought 2 years before had the same amount of RAM 🤦🏻♂️
🔥🔥🔥
If you don't need old ram chips then how about to try to grind them down to soldering pads right on the board?

Really cool stuff, I wonder if you could solder/upgrade the ram as well to 2GB..
It's soldered on using bga, the risks of destroying the board are too high. Plus he would have to make a solder paste stencil
The underfill dissolves if you use ether, it's possible.
My friend. I just wanna know how you installed Multi operating system for this pc. Thanks
That’s really cool

This guy managed to Hackintosh a whatever you consider this thing to be, while I can't Hackintosh a normal cheap computer I built.
@dosdude1
Don't let that underfill pull you back; if you've come this far you should do everything you need to upgrade that RAM!
Watching this on my Vaio Phone.
and it probably still more powerful than most macBooks
This is amazing.
Can you plz make a tutorial on how to get OS Catalina when it comes out for unsupported macs🤘🏻😢

Fantastic.. tha cam works?
Sony was always way ahead of their time. But anyways, you could've used a VGA to hdmi
Why downgrade it with Mac?
How did you do it? Id love to hackintosh my OQO Model 02 so I can have an even smaller snow leopard experience
Could be installed on vaio p?
Cool! What are you going to do with it?
I have no idea LOL.
Are those Xserves I hear in the background?
Did you try Clover in legacy boot? It will likely detect the CPU and RAM properly. Nice work btw!

can u maybe show how to make this into hackintosh
