Honestly love Scott's stash. Like it's obvious these are just topics he wants to talk about but can't really get a full produced video put of. I also really like how it kinda shows that his comedy in his main videos isn't just to appeal to people, it's what he legitimately finds funny.
About the packaging: The curve on the DS with the indent is supposed to be the back of the OG DS. The DSi one is a straight line because that's the shape of the DSi.
I had a DS lite when I was really little, and I had a bunch of DS games plus 3 GBA games (Super Mario World, LarryBoy and the Bad Apple, and Little Einsteins). I ended up getting it traded for a DSi because my parents must've thought that the new features were worth it. Although I missed being able to play the GBA games (except little einsteins), I do have fond memories with the camera feature and Flipnote, and the previous owner had installed Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, which I played for many hours.
while not a DSi exclusive, the Sonic Classics Collection for DS runs way smoother on the DSi over the regular DS thanks to the extra horsepower. I'm sure this was the case for some other games too, but that's the most important one for me!
Man, the DSi really hits that sweet spot of pure nostalgia for me. 2009...I wasn't even 10 just yet when my mom decided to take me to GameStop on a whim and buy me a new DS. Originally I had wanted a new Lite, since my older brother broke my first one by tripping over the charging cable and literally ripping the system in half, but the DSi was the real new thing, so my mom got me it instead. And I think it must've been a bit more expensive than a Lite at the time, cause we had to hide it from my dad or else he'd get mad that I had gotten yet another new system. Still, from under the covers and whenever he was at work, it was a blast. I took so many pictures just to put the Mario hat and 'stache on, listened to the slides how music all the time, messed around with my voice in the Sound app...I think I even first played Yoshi's Island DS on there. We didn't collectively know how to connect any of our systems to the internet yet, so I missed out on most DSiWare, barring Flipnote. And damn, _Flipnote._ It's a crying shame the 3DS iteration didn't bring back the Flipnote Hatena service. I spent hours watching stuff through there. I say all this and yet I only really used the system for a year, give or take. That's when my sister, like a dope, put it on a shelf as she was helping clean our living room, and it fell off landing top screen-first. Tons of dead pixels. Poor system...but it was in part thanks to that slip up that I was in prime position to get the 3DS in 2011. And sure enough, that holiday season, Flame Red 3DS. 12 year old me cried tears of joy after not having any sort of DS for over a year at that point. And the rest is history, pretty much. Thanks for joining me on this nostalgia slide. Sorry for going on for a while there!
Had a similar situation with my dad regarding my PSP (Nintendo has no official presence in my country). Ended up clocking him right on the head with it a couple years later. The UMD drive hasn't worked since but I haven't needed it since either lol, all else is fine.
In the 3DS manual, it had keyart for DS and DSi cartages while talking about backwards compatibility. I was always perplexed by a "DSi Game Card" because I had never seen one before. The art used black for DS and white for DSi, like the boxes. Odd they felt like they had to mention it. Also the constant reminders that it "Only Works on DSi" are quite amusing. I had an aunt buy Minecraft New 3DS for her son and his "3DS XL" and was confused on why it didnt work. Really shows that it never works... Makes you wonder if that ever happened with a DSi only game to someone.
I think it is very funny that when Scott mentioned DS games with DSi exclusive features I first thought of Pokemon B/W which I think could do like, rudimentary video calls with the DSi camera but instead Scott brings up iCarly because of course he does. Never change Scott
Looking back, the DSi was a pretty great upgrade for me as a DS owner. No joke I gamed SO HARD that I had TWO DS Lite systems break on me. It wasn't misuse, I simply used it so much that two times the hinges wore down and eventually broke off. It was amazing waking up on Christmas and getting the DSi, because at that point I was on my second Lite and the hinge was quite literally dangling and was almost unusable. The DSi came in clutch, and only thing that wore down was the L button, which got abused due to heavy Flipnote Studio use. The Lite was a beautiful system, but fell short in durability because of that.
Funnily enough my DS did get abused by me accidentally dropping it down the stairs (no carpet) constantly. But somehow to this day it looks and plays perfectly. Can barely even notice the scratches. My GBA SP is a sadder story though, that thing is scratched to shit although it still plays fine
I love the fact that those DSi cases have a GBA game cartridge holder. Ah yes, let me carry around my GBA games inside a game case for a system with no GBA slot!
In Europe, there isn't any official DS (nor DSi box) with a GBA slot, although GBA games were still released until very late (the last being SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis, in 2008).
@@ventilo334 That... Isn't true at all? The big translucent European region boxes allll have GBA/DS Option Pak slots. I literally just took a game out from one.
I've played through Foto Showdown. Its story mode is very short, maybe 10-15 hours long. The story is pure fluff; it makes the stories of Pokemon games look deep. There's a positioning element to combat. It resembles a turn-based strategy game. The monsters don't level up like in Pokemon. Instead, you keep taking pictures until you randomly get stronger monsters to put on your team. There's no world or dungeons to explore, only a series of monster battles and forgettable, low-budget story scenes. At the time, I thought Foto Showdown was barely worth the $15 I paid for it. Now it auctions for $50 or more, go figure. I guess DSi collectors have money to burn.
Judging by the Foto Showdown trailer it showed that an agressive dog, and a bully both had monsters inside of them because they we're evil or something, but that means that Scott and his plant are also both evil.
1:08 Fun fact: the original DS and DS Lite actually had a microphone. It was an addon accessory that used a proprietary port next to the headphone jack. If I recall only a handful of games actually used it, two of them being Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The DSi also features this port, though not necessary with the in-built mic
I recall getting that same exact Dsi for Christmas back in 2010 with a copy of the toy story 3 game, now if that’s not a great gift than I don’t know what is .
There are actually a few more DSi exclusive cartridges: they made two demo videos (volume 1 and 2) which bypass the DSi Operating System and boot into a video which plays on loop, meant to advertise a available games in store. I might make a video on them because they're really cool, but maybe you should check them out!
Same here, but it was annoying that the DSi only read MP4 files, I remember spending entire afternoons converting MP3 files for the sake of listening my music on the go
I got a cobalt blue Nintendo DS Lite on my birthday back in '08, and it came with New Super Mario Bros., that was the best gift I ever got as a kid. I did have a few GBA games that I could play with it, though I lost them, not to mention that my DS broke from the hinge later on. I actually got a black Nintendo DSi on New Year's Eve of 2012 which was definitely the second best gift from my Godmother. I only had better memories with Flipnote Studio and Hatena, as well as the free Zelda game that coincided with its 25th anniversary. While it didn't break as it did with the DS Lite, I lost it after my visit to the hospital. I only knew about the DSi Shop and its DSiWare games, but was unaware that there were games made for the DSi until later when I got my 3DS XL and read the manual that the system could accept DSi games. Those carts really look exactly like the 3DS carts, if they didn't have the tab on the side. I know I'm gonna have people disagreeing with me when I say this but I think it was for the best that the DSi didn't have a GBA cart slot. I think the DSi was meant to move on from the GBA era after they discontinued the GBA Micro, so it makes sense that the DSi doesn't have the slot right from the get-go. Either way people already have methods of playing GBA games, either on the actual handheld, the Gamecube's GBA Player, or the DS/DS Lite itself, so there's no point in bitching about it when you already have the existing methods right off the bat.
My first Nintendo console was the DSi XL 25th Mario anniversary. I had hours of fun on that thing whether on flipnote, picture studio or games !!! A trip back memory lane
i grew up with the light blue dsi damn i have so many fond memories with this thing. i loved to mess around with flipnote, the camera and this sound recorder tool thing (and of course play games but that should be obvious)
System Flaw is really interesting, because neither the cartridge nor the DSi have a gyroscope. My guess is it uses the camera feed to calculate the relative position of the system based on where it was when it started up
I adore how the DSi exclusive cases still have the GBA slot despite the fact that the DSi has almost 0 backwards compatibility with the GBA I mean I know why they kept that in; it was cheaper and simpler to just use the same mold and run a different colored plastic in it than to make a whole new tooling. But it's still pretty funny to see especially after they ended up making a brand new tooling without the GBA slot in later DS games
@@Nazareth69420 There's a DS/DSi homebrew app called GBArunner2 which pretty much acts as a hypervisor for GBA games (similar to a virtual machine, or how microsoft does backwards compatibility with their xbox consoles) While that is kinda like saying that you can play doom on the wii, that does mean that there are a non-0 amount of DSi's out there capable of playing GBA games (not via cart, tho, that is super totally 0 backwards compatibility)

I remember playing Sonic Colors on my new DSi on christmas. I beat it that very day. Still had fun, and it was the first time I remember beating a game.
I swear at one point I heard it being talked about that Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks was also considered for being a DSi exclusive at one point for better graphics and performance, but then that was moved away from so it would reach a wider audience though I think it's still supposed to be built around the better processing power of the DSi for a more enhanced experience but I don't know of anyone who ever really looked into it. (Sort of like how Majora's Mask 3D was built around the New 3DS but still perfectly playable on a regular 3DS.)
one of my favorite games of all time :solatorobo red the hunter; had dsi exclusive features as an optional part of the game. I don't want to spoil it cause it turns into a really cool part of the game's story, but it's kind of how earthbound asks for your name and uses it in surprise ways during the game.
I went through 3 DSi's: The first one had its power button get stuck, the second one had its microphone stop working, and the third one I donated to GoodWill because I personally didn't use it anymore (I had a 3DS at the time)
I had a dream the other night that I had an original ds, rather than a ds lite that I grew up with. I think in the dream I ate it since it was like chocolate with that kinda hard edible shell like m’m’s that made it look like a ds
That room tour video still messed with my head. I can't get over the fact that Scott has carpet on a Table and isn't really laying on his tummy with a camera talkin about video game stuff.... 🥲😮💨
I remember going to my friends crib where he showed me his ds games. I saw flaw and took a closer look. My reaction to a dsi exclusive game was “maybe I’m not fucking useless”.
Hidden Photo was actually a DSiWare release, at least in the US. Still have it downloaded on my 3DS, actually, even though it's really not that worth keeping around
God, I loved using my Nintendo DSi to take pictures with that crummy camera. So many memories on that little white system that took a beating. Too bad the camera stopped working in 2010...
The ds game with dsi content I always jump to is uhh... Zhu Zhu Pets 2 featuring the Wild Bunch. There was always an exclusive race level that would have your picture as the ground behind the road. I grew up with it, love it to pieces, and for some reason, I own 2 copies.
I got my DSi a year later after it's release . My first games was New super Mario bros and Sonic all stars racing. Several years later I got Mario kart .
I've seen a couple DS retail games that would advertise extra features on the DSi but would still work on other DS consoles. I wonder how many of _those_ exist: I feel that could make an interesting video topic.
The DS original and DS lite had a web browser it just was on a game cartridge and it came with something that went in GBA GPA slot to increase the memory so that it could support a web browser
Honestly love Scott's stash. Like it's obvious these are just topics he wants to talk about but can't really get a full produced video put of. I also really like how it kinda shows that his comedy in his main videos isn't just to appeal to people, it's what he legitimately finds funny.

Assassin's Creed 2 Discovery had exclusive DSi features haha
DSi games existence is like mine. Not necessary by ANY means but cursed to exist.
Love that a dsi exclusive case still has a gba slot despite the console ditching support..
I remember as a kid seeing System Flaw in a Sears clearance bin right next to Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?
6:38 TWiLightMenu and nds-bootstrap let you play a select bunch of DSiWare ROMs on a DS via a flashcart now
one of my favorite games of all time :solatorobo red the hunter; had dsi exclusive features as an optional part of the game. I don't want to spoil it cause it turns into a really cool part of the game's story, but it's kind of how earthbound asks for your name and uses it in surprise ways during the game.
I went through 3 DSi's: The first one had its power button get stuck, the second one had its microphone stop working, and the third one I donated to GoodWill because I personally didn't use it anymore (I had a 3DS at the time)
Face raiders that was included on every 3ds system is basically a better version of the third game here lmao
I had a dream the other night that I had an original ds, rather than a ds lite that I grew up with.
I think in the dream I ate it since it was like chocolate with that kinda hard edible shell like m’m’s that made it look like a ds
that's epic
Did you bite it closed? Or like open? Double choccy or choccy sandwich?
@@waverazor Yes, fascinating. Also we must know if the DS was dark chocolate or milk chocolate, if it contained nuts, etc..
That's slicc, thanx Scott
That room tour video still messed with my head. I can't get over the fact that Scott has carpet on a Table and isn't really laying on his tummy with a camera talkin about video game stuff.... 🥲😮💨
I remember going to my friends crib where he showed me his ds games. I saw flaw and took a closer look. My reaction to a dsi exclusive game was “maybe I’m not fucking useless”.
Hidden Photo was actually a DSiWare release, at least in the US. Still have it downloaded on my 3DS, actually, even though it's really not that worth keeping around
Lmao, the hair salon game was published by 505 games, they made Terraria.
They published it on consoles, relogic made the game.
"It's like Face Raiders but worse" I wasn't aware you could even get worse.
Picture Perfect Hair Salon really could have benefited from a Dark Souls dodge roll mechanic
I loved using the DSI exclusive features and I still have mine.
absolutely love hearing you ramble about the stuff you love ❤️
I love the cases used for DSi exclusive games still have the slot for storing a GBA game, even though the DSi removed the gba slot.
Finally Scott the woz fi happy talked about I carry in a video
3:31 so THATS where the year of clubhouse games comes from
God, I loved using my Nintendo DSi to take pictures with that crummy camera. So many memories on that little white system that took a beating. Too bad the camera stopped working in 2010...
The more creative and innovated exclusive was Looksley's Line Up from the Dsiware.
The ds game with dsi content I always jump to is uhh... Zhu Zhu Pets 2 featuring the Wild Bunch. There was always an exclusive race level that would have your picture as the ground behind the road. I grew up with it, love it to pieces, and for some reason, I own 2 copies.
i had a dsi xl. it was lit
I got my DSi a year later after it's release . My first games was New super Mario bros and Sonic all stars racing. Several years later I got Mario kart .
I remember getting my DSi from my uncle, and my cousins gave me my first game: Chicken Little; Ace In Action 😎
I've seen a couple DS retail games that would advertise extra features on the DSi but would still work on other DS consoles. I wonder how many of _those_ exist: I feel that could make an interesting video topic.
I remember seeing a DSi exclusive in some random discount box at a store and I freaked out when I saw a DSi exclusive. I had no idea they existed.
Yeah I saw System Flaw at a Kmart once and I should have picked it up. At the time I had no clue DSi exclusives even existee.
I thought he wouldn't make this video. Thank you Scott
13:31 I’m starting to think Scott is liking PC gaming more and more
Scott's brain and mine were separated at birth - I've been on a DS kick lately too...
I’ve been waiting for this video, always wondered what Scott thinks of the dsi exclusive library
DS and DS Lite have microphones, open your DS Lite and look on the hinge, you see a hole and it says Mic.
The DS original and DS lite had a web browser it just was on a game cartridge and it came with something that went in GBA GPA slot to increase the memory so that it could support a web browser
my fellow flipnote studio users... *salutes*
The original DS did have goofy microphone recording stuff, it was just hidden on Nintendogs and Warioware lol.
Talking about that foto showdown game reminded me of that Scannerz toy and had a very similar concept
i feel like watching dankpods. just hands and a dsi in frame
thank god there's a gba cart holder in the dsi game case so I can play gba games on my dsi
Not a whole lot of DSi exclusivity, so fortunately there isnt an apocalypse related to its closure.
