When I first met my wife, she loved Crisis Core, but hated handheld gaming. Her face lit up when I showed her I had the AV cables to connect my PSP 2000 to the TV and she could finally play it "properly". The Reunion remake is her Christmas present this year. :)
Basically my thoughts on it is that its great game but at the time was MINDBLOWING Having the FF7 world in 3d was amazing and that real time combat was cool aswell and all in portable system! I think this game will always be enjoyable but playing it back then on release especially as a young kid was just on another level.
I was addicted on this game back in the day. About them being able to fit all of this onto a psp, the game was supposed to be bigger, and flesh out more of Zack and Cloud's friendship. Well, they had to shorten that, and Tabata being the director, he was the guy that got any game finished, even if he had to cut half the story to release it on time.
The whole Zack wanting a wing for himself things are just him having an early-life existential crisis because his seniors are having one while managed to be edgy as well. That'll explain Cloud's entire personality, it's a generational hand-me-down stuff
My favorite line was probably either, "It's to late, he's unlocked his theme music." Or "Jesus Christ, Zack, how much wax did you put in your hair?!" Which, to be fair, is probably a lot, considering how spiky his hair is.
I didn't have the games or know anyone who had them, so I settled for watching let's plays and cutscenes movies instead. I can't speak towards the gameplay or mechanics, though the slot thing looked pretty annoying, but the plot and music are both great in my opinion. I loved the dynamics between the Generals before and after they started degrading, I loved Zack's relationship with Cloud, and it was absolutely fantastic to see the world in 3D and better graphical quality than the original FF7. It might be cheesy and overly philosophical at times, but to me it falls more on the side of charming than annoying (if barely). It definitely adds more to the series than it harms, so I think it's a pretty good addition to the series.
The slot machine(DMW) wasn’t as annoying as people are making it out to be. As the game went on it was as if it tried to make sure you would get either a summon or a Limit Break to activate frequently. Furthermore you missed out on one of the greatest gaming experiences by watching the Let’s Play.
3:16 I mean a portly scientist outran a blue hedgehog who can _allegedly_ run at the speed of sound even though the only time he ever made a sonic boom in the games was in the dubiously-canon Sonic CD opening while running up a chain that would have absolutely ripped apart from the impact of said sonic boom unless Eggman already knew he could go that fast and specifically reinforced it with some unknown form of plotdevicium.
I loved this game when it came out. Played it again recently and I forgot how much I actually hated gambling. Was hoping the remake would take it out but seems it won’t be the case. Great video as always. Keep up the great work.
ff7 is my favorite game of all time. I LOVED crisis core. The music, art, chars, story - all were done great. Zack was such a pivotal character in ff7 but he was only in a couple cut scenes, it was nice to have his story expanded! And it was all done so beautifully. Truly the gift of the goddess!
I still have my original copy, only game I have left on the PSP, and I'm getting the remaster, I liked that you made this video, I started watching your videos when I started getting interested in that Hogwarts Legacy game, and I started thinking about the old Harry Potter movie games, I like your vids and commentary, thank you!
I loved everything about this game so much! Except for one thing: being in an area with calm, or near silent music and every time getting jumpscared by ACTIVATING COMBAT MODE!!!!
Glad you weren't brutal about it, although I was expecting you to be after mocking so much of the story haha It was my first introduction to Final Fantasy and I adored it. Its still up there as one of my all time favourite games simply because I loved its story beats and it has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. And I loved the feel of its environments. So much atmosphere. Great vid Flandrew, hilarious stuff!
As a kid crisis core was my first introduction to final fantasy 7 outside if kh2. I absolutely loved it and I always wanted a remake. I cannot wait to play it now that it's out and see the cutscene if angeal, Genesis, and sephiroth in 4k
Ahh my second fav game of all time. Absolutely love it. Even got to level 99 with max stats. I'm shitting my pants till reunion is out in a couple days
this is your funniest video yet, man, i laughed all the way to the end. I played this game when I was 19 and really loved it. It's impossible to even like Genesis, but Angeal was great tho, he was the mentor that had to die for the MC to mature. BTW, did you know you could go SUPER BROKEN in this game? if you do the sidequests, you'll find chests containing the following items: - Divine Slayer, equip that breaks the 9999 dmg barrier - Costly Punch, it's like falcon punch, does A LOT of damga - Some materia that boosts dmg from Costly Punch I ended up killing genesis in 1 hit and sephiroth in 2 on my first playthrough of the game (i really loved it, i did all the missions). Best hair? zack and cissnei, idk lol
Crisis Core is still one of my favourite PSP games and I can’t believe I got to talk to Quinton Flynn (Reno) today in his stream while he was doing a live autograph signing. Can’t wait for the remaster it would be perfect if you could switch to the original voice actors.
2:13 I thought he was a musician who just happens to _look_ like a model, which he sometimes takes advantage of by going shirtless in public appearances? Or is he one of those triple threat types? I know he played the Kamen Rider Decade version of Riderman so I know he's an actor, though oddly he was not in the stage adaptation of LOVELESS in spite of his addiction to it.
i missed out on this game, only games off the main FF series i played was dirge of cerebus and crystal chronicles, but i didnt miss out on dead head fred, loved that psp game
This was the one and only Final Fantsay game I've ever played and it is still to this day one of the best games I've ever played. Can't wait to play this remake, remaster... upgrade.
It's definitely one of the best PSP titles and loved by the FF community (myself included). To be realistic, however, the dialogue is rough and cringe. I mean SE had a thing for that back in those days and yes the side characters weren't good enough to be considered as the best characters in the franchise but, as you said, it is nice to see known characters get fleshed out in our current gen tech. The game came out on my cringe teenage days so I loved every second of it and I'm glad it's finally releasing on other formats. My inner child is definitely excited to play it again but my inner film student will be very cringed out by some of the content here.
I loved this game, even though 15 year old me was VERY confused by the game slot mechanic. XD absolutely played the shit out of this, though I never could get the hang of the sneaking around that base thing
I played through crisis core a few months ago for the first time. I do wish you had a few more party members and the missions got really repetitive but still I loved everything else about the game great music, atmospheric, ending etc and Zach himself is pretty cool. Looking forward to the remake but I also can't wait to come back to this one in a few years
What's the song that it's played in the background of the videos? I really need to know, it sounds soo familiar to me but I can't remember where I've heard that song I'm going bonkers
To be fair, I think this game is overrated as hell and its story is a major disservice to the original game, like all of the Compilation projects. Angeal and Genesis were cringey needless additions and retcons that take away from Sephiroth's backstory and origin, and the ending was way too OTT for the sake of being epic and heroic, whereas Zack's demise in the original FF7 hit harder as he was just gunned down on the spot without warning. The gameplay is alright though, outside of those tedious side missions, and it was nice exploring Midgar in a fully 3D environment. Can't say I'll be rushing to play the remaster, but I do think more PSP games deserve ports.
I used to hate the dmw till recently. Affter looking up methods to grind for the remake i found there is a hidden exp system. Id keep checking the first suply pod in the briefing room to get the cursed ring and stockpile exp. The dmw will try forcing levels on you once you take the cursed ring off
Loved this Game back in my Teenage and Very Early 20s but today with almost 32 Years Old i see it very differently , this Game gives no Positive Favor to the Great Final Fantasy 7 Storywise but the Gameplay was OK.
I think this game is good, but have many flaws. Nobody complains that this game has the hallway map. The levels are a bunch of rooms exactly the same as the one before, it can confuse you and run in circles and then die because of the high enemy encounter.
Just played Reunion and I'm with you. Awful story but at least it tipped over into camp often enough. Fun gameplay. Best hair definitely goes to Director Lazard
Overall I enjoyed the game back in the day. I think the combat system would still hold up overall (though I would prefer a revision to the intrusive slot machine that keeps it whirling away in the corner providing different buffs, and not being a means of triggering limit breaks). The story has its highlights, though the bright points are mostly the scenes from FF7 which are less nauseating than about 95% of the new story. Even back then I could barely stomach Genesis and that awful poem he was obsessed with. These days I've developed a serious intolerance to the sort of emo, pseudo-philosophical melodramatic dialog that's so typical of JRPGs, and I worry that if I revisit Crisis Core now, I'll end up regretting every cent and second I ever spent on this game.
I think its prety good game but story and combat are kinda disappointing. In the remaster its prety fun but repetitive still but this game is very impressively done and looks much more modern now that it’s definitely worth playing
Haven't played this game, but I guess it was pretty cool to see some parts of the FFVII world in 3D. BTW, if you think the Aerith/Aeris probelm is over, she's still referred as Aeris in the Spanish translations, and weirdly enough Sephiroth is called Sefirot in that translation and in Smash Bros. Ultimate if you play the game in Spanish
Sephriot/Sefirot is _technically_ the correct translation considering the origin of his name and "Safer" should be "Seraph" or "Sepher" instead. Sepher Sefirot is the Hebrew name of the Book of Numbers and he has eight wings in that form. Seraphim are literally just clumps of eight wings crying "Holy! Holy! Holy!" (be not afraid indeed pft).
@@mattwo7 I wonder if the name of the land in which the anime Magic Knight Rayearth takes place, Cephiro, it's another reference to Sefirot. Because it's sounds kinda similar
CC is one I game I like that I also hate. So far the Remake fixed the tedious combat, which was my biggest gripe, I can tolerate the cringe nonsensical story just fine but only if the gameplay is good or great, which the Remaster does. But I think people saying the OG CC was a great or a masterpiece game really need to I don't know play more games.
Never played final fantasy is it a good game because I’ve nearly finished dark souls / souls spin off games franchise so looking for a new fantasy series to play
I'll never understand how people liked this game. All the random elements made it feel like a drag, and the new characters just dilute FFVII. Genesis is an annoying take on Sephiroth, and we even get another Hojo wannabe. Why have characters that are clones of other characters? And all the Buster Sword Backstory was completely idiotic considering you get rid of the sword as soon as you get a better sword in FFVII. And this comes from someone who loves FFVII, it's my favorite game in fact. The only thing I'll grant Crisis Core is that the ending was AMAZING, and it ALMOST made the random elements be worth it since it plays with it during the final standoff.
Ive played almost final fantsy. It doesnt feel that good. Even FF7, the only last real game after ff7 was ff10, kingdom hearts and kh12. Since then, almost every ff game has been a dissapointment and really hasnt met that nostalgia everyone been waiting for years. Trust to talk about it but is the truth.
The PS5 remake was alright (this one), but the mechanics and everything how was compared to the part one remake was horrible and I didn’t like it and I really hope the part three coming out in 2024 reverts to the part one remake because it was a lot more fun and more interesting even though this one in the video is a remake of a handheld version.

It's amazing and fun. The ending just hit the nail on it's head. Perfect send off Zack fair.
