Sorry I don't understand what was the root cause? I have an HP notebook which won't power on and I've tried most of these except CMOS (it doesn't have), keyboard removal.
The initial root problem was a motherboard that was shorted out this obviously must have also damaged the WiFi and Sound switch that caused the complete failure to power on. After replacing the motherboard (I tried 2 to be sure) I found once I had disconnected the CMOS battery and the Main battery the laptop would power on after about 20 seconds but neither the keyboard or the screen worked. I found that if I plugged in a USB Keyboard and a VGA screen via the VGA graphics outlet they did work so I could see that the laptop motherboard was working fine. After that by a process of elimination I found that if I disconnected the ribbon cable to the WiFi and Sound switch and left it disconnected the laptop worked just fine. Crazy fault I know, I just decided to not bother with the WiFi and Sound switch since everything else worked just fine.

I think my charger is broken
Relatively easy test for that using a Multimeter
