KALAMU NYEUSI: THE VOICE OF BLACK EXCELLENCE IN SPOKEN WORD AND POETRY

In the third episode of Stories and Struggles for 2025, under the Why They Are Trending segment, we hosted Kalamu Nyeusi, a talented spoken word and poetry artist from Athi River. Kalamu’s name is deeply meaningful, representing his identity and passion. The name "Nyeusi" comes from friends who called him that in school due to his dark complexion, which he proudly represents. "Kalamu," meaning pen, was a nickname given by his primary school teacher for his exceptional compositions, starting with a story titled My Friend.
Over time, these early writing skills evolved into a love for poetry and spoken word, paving the way for him to become Kalamu Nyeusi-a name synonymous with storytelling and self-expression. His dream is to become one of the greatest spoken word artists, inspiring people to understand and appreciate the art form.
Currently, Kalamu is making waves at Red Musik Studios, where he has been given another opportunity to record a new spoken word piece. This follows the success of his previous project, a powerful poetry track that resonated with many. Kalamu Nyeusi’s journey reminds us of the power of perseverance and the beauty of embracing one’s unique voice.
