I have always liked how MB and Lincoln put the seat adjustment controls very visibly on the door instead of on the side of the seat. That’s how it should always be. They’re even gracious enough to illuminate them!
M-B was the first to use this design feature in their cars in the 1980s.
Mister Methuselah I remember that back in the 1980’s when I was just a little kiddo! And now, the 7-Series, the A8, and the S-Class are all now competing to be my next car. Who ever would have thought?!?

You mean you like how Mercedes has been doing that for decades and Lincoln only copied them in the last generation lol. Lincoln copied Mercedes so much they even use the same speaker grill designs.

Informative and pleasant review as always. I agree that air suspension should be cosseting. Last week I drove the iPace which has it but the ride quality wasn’t isolating me from the road. This is one of the few Mercedes I prefer without AMG kit. It looks fantastic and non-confrontational.

Excellent Review Thomas and Holger, many thanks for all the info. Enjoyed the driving part, and great driving. At 33:26, with augmented technology, you got no warning of that sharp right! Agree, soft suspension good for a SUV, this is not a weekend track car! Low Rider E-Active Body Control seems OTT for expense and complication, but the rich will like it!

OMG, you're not only in the USA but south of me here in Texas. BTW, Love the new GLE. Wish they would/could bring back the diesel here in the states but it's like the M-Class was finally just perfected. Really amazing .... welcome to Texas. FYI 80MPH is pretty much the norm on IH35...LOL

The build quality looks impressive!
I saw these being unloaded at The Pearl and I'm still kicking myself for not taking a closer look. I was driving by when they were unloading the white ones and they are gorgeous in person.

Thanks! Well GLC will get a Facelift, but not exactly with this infotainment I think. We ll keep u updated on that, we ll check it out when its available!
Hello Thomas , good SUV by Mercedes.BTW it's good you have this car in Michigan because I've heard the roads in Michigan are absolutely terrible .I like the inside bes,t looks more modern. Top detailed review as always Thomas , well done !!

I believe that you mention in your review that the U.S. Headquarters is located in Michigan but, the new U.S. Headquarters is actually located in Atlanta,Georgia.

Another excellent review Thomas! I am wary of all these electronics which have been proven to be unreliable. When they go bad, they stay bad and become very expensive maintenance issues. I read somewhere that there is reason car exhausts are now being ported downwards. Supposedly, there is a new US auto regulation that requires this, because it points noxious gases and particulates downward rather than to pedestrian faces. Not sure how true this is or not. I haven't been able to find anything on it.
In another review I saw the 2 bar basic grille with the lower 'vent' parts with two small chrome bars from an AMG pack. A combination I prefer, bus can't seem to be able to build..
I can't wait to see what the 63 version will be like, it will be a monster with the 4.0l engine.

Why do you not use the little slider on your folding ruler that makes up the difference when your measurement is between folding sections? Either that or use a measuring tape (like carpenter's and builders use)? Thanks!

I agree with Thomas. SUVs and large and mid sized sedans should be comfy on the road unless it's clearly supposed to be a Sunday track car. How does the ride and noise level compare to the S Class?

Very impressive vehicle. Not a fan of the old fashioned square vents in the centre console or the tail lights but otherwise would consider buying.
Come to Australia and test some cars on our roads. I want to see you driving on the other side of the road.

The "fake exhausts" are certainly not a deal breaker and the sales figures will prove this. This is the best effort I have seen so far in this segment and real luxury vehicle buyers recognize that.
Hi Thomas, great review. I appreciate that you plugged your iPhone into the MBUX system but did you happen to test (off camera) if the MBUX system supports Wireless CarPlay? There were many reports earlier this year that MBUX would support it. Thanks.

The sound insulation and acoustics in the cabin lets in so much outside noise [I don't know if you had an open window by the way].
Thomas in Texas! How fun is that?! ....as he avoids the giant pickup trucks, and cow transporters..lol. Does the navigation alert you to which scary parts of Houston visitors should avoid?
But seriously, this new GLE seems to be an excellent premium SUV, and a nice improvement over the prior generation. Exterior styling is pleasant, if a bit too safe/ambiguous, and will play well with traditional Benz SUV clients (soccer moms), but will it win market share? I can’t help but see a scaled-up Suzuki SX4. 😳
The interior appears top quality, as usual (lately) for Mercedes, with the fantastic metallic and crisp actioned switch gear. I like the improved blending of the huge display screen into the center dash (better than E-Class), but two of those center vents must go. What’s up with the German designs with their overcompensated if not panoramic dashboard ventilation? Goofy. The voice activation seems “next generation” and best in class, as does the navigation animation (my new Volvo’s are jealous).
I wonder what the real world fuel mileage is for that V6 gas motor; 17 MPG?🙁
At first glance, this new GLE should be a big hit, plus it’s made in America (jobs 😀). Now, can Mercedes keep the pricing within the stratosphere ?

Autogefühl ..oh ja, sorry was hypnotized by the array of 4 little central dash vents, and missed that 23 MPG. Let’s test that Mercedes MPG calibration... I’ll stand by my real world soccer mom traffic and parking lot barnstorming (city) at 17, and 20 MPG for mixed 60-40 city/hwy. This is a heavy beast, which only gets heavier and less economical with a load of kids and gear. The turbo V6 gas motor can be more economical as long as the turbo is not spooled-up, but that is reserved for casual highway in cruise control (and downhill). 😉

Why does the A-class and GLE get the nice integrated long LCD, but the GLC only gets a tablet style. :(
I look forward to a time when infotainment systems evolve to be more similar and intuitive. Right now, the learning curve is daunting. Thumbs up for great outward visibility. Thumbs down for fake design elements.
I have heard that there is a lot of outside excessive noise that makes it's way into the cabin on the GLE

Thomas, did your GLE test car have the Acoustic Comfort Package on it? In your review you said it was quiet, but on the video I heard a lot of road noise. I'd also like to hear which car was quieter on the road the E-class sedan, E-Class coupe or the new GLE?
Yes it had it. Was very silent. On camera it always depends on the road surface too.
