- Gwent can be a little bit overwhelming for a beginner. So I'm creating my beginners guide deck series. Today we take a look at the Monsters Starter Deck. For just 300 scraps, you can make a few key improvements to give this deck a little more power. I also go through the key synergies, how to play the deck, and recommend some key Monsters gold cards to craft.
Expanding on their popular Witcher franchise with Gwent, CD Project Red are following the trend of creating their own collectible card game. Players must compete across 3 rounds to outscore their opponent and come out on top.

I've been such a big advocate to bring this game to mobile - even spamming the devs - and when it finally came to android, my phone wasn't comparable - that was the biggest L I've ever taken in my life - now I just go to read the reviews of all the people having fun.... lol.
@@neilcognito I've been holding off getting it for the PS4 just because it didnt seem to be a game i was going to sit in front of a tv for hours and play but being able to pull it out for a game or two on the train to work is perfect! My only gripe is (dunno if it's the same on ps4) it could do with explaining some more of the mechanics but I suppose that's the same with most of these type of games.
@@equinox9 Same - I play on GOG, but the most I can do is about 3 matches on any given day - having it on mobile is a lifesaver; I just need a phone that runs it. And about the explanation, yes, so true; I've been playing this game since 2017, and to say I barely have an understanding of the game would be a total understatement - It worries me because I want to force everyone I know to play the game, and if they don't understand it, they'll get frustrated, and I will lose people to recommend awesome games to.
@@neilcognito haha yeah, unfortunately as soon as I mention card game to most of my friends it's a no so I've given up on that. What I do give CDPR massive credit for is for the casual player it doesnt seem to be pay to win so far. I'm level 10 and beat a level 41 yesterday with a starter deck. Whereas on hearthstone quite early on people were pulling out crazy cards. I'll probably look in to upgrading a monster deck this weekend.
@@equinox9 Yeah - if there is anything I praise went for, is it's balancing - I think that's the trade-off for the complexity of the game, no one is guaranteed to win, it's all about strategy and think ahead. That's why I fell in love with this game, never even fancy card games before playing gwent in the Witcher 3. CDPR is a damn fair and respectable company if not anything else I say.
Finally I found a comprehensive guide for this deck. Thanks a lot. Other channels videos are too complicated, ill paced or too pretentious
"other channel's videos are too complicated". dear god. having just watched to the 1/2 way point of this one, that's just plain scary. i feel like if i were to play this i would be playing for a solid year before i even have a clue of what's going on.
Favorite sentence: "Yum yum yum, eggs are really good source of protein."
As a returning player I noticed a LOT of differences, like there being only 2 rows and much more... this guide is really helpful for me to get used to it and start playing again, thanks a lot :D
Does old gwent has 3 rows? Or r u mistakenly referencing gwent in witcher 3?

So much so that I have just got my first ever 3 win streak (I have only played about 10 games ranked games) - I am still fine tuning it - but your video really helped immensely - I look forward to watching your other ones now.

I played Gwent a lot in the Witcher 3 and so, thought I'd know what I was doing going into the game... I was very wrong.

Hi; thank u for this great vid; I just started the game on Sunday and did not know what the F but after watching ur vid I played the way u suggested and it all made sense and started to win games and I now know how to play the game and in no time reached rank 28. So thank u SO much . Just one thing ; PLEASE PLEASE always show the card u are talking about as a new player I'm not familiar with most of the cards and if u just call the card by name I won't have a clue but if u show the card i immediately know which one u talking about. Cheers for ur help. Can't wait to learn from ur vids and get better and climb the ranks with ur great step by step help. Once again thank u for ur vid it helped me so much in that I've played with few other new to the game monster players and as I see their mistakes I just want to stop the game and tell them to watch u. Thanks for this guide, it was a great introduction to the game. :) I only started playing yesterday and the first 10 or so games were really fun, but after that I've just been matched against high tier meta decks exclusively without the slightest chance of winning, so I'll probably just gonna stop playing again. xD

You said you won because you understood the kindve cards they had. Being a beginner i/we wouldnt know these cards/deck.
I can only combo cards, bait them to use geralt early and to have either more points or more cards at the end of the first round. Oh yeah, and also hope for the best!
Ive played about 15 games and lost 2 so far so id say im not doing to bad with my strategy

Hey I'd like to let you know that dominance does count even if the only card that you have is the one with the dominance effect.
Confirmed it yesterday. Board was empty, enemy plays wild hunt rider and summons a copy of it.
They changed it after this video was made
Just a reminder that wild Hunt riders effect is a deploy now too so that's why it worked
I been trying to learn this game as much as I can been playing for a few days now and still haven't won a single match
Finally, I'm struggling to build my Monster deck... I'm trying to focus on Vanpires and Necrophages
Literally never played again once the update became this new version. I used to have a max monster deck with all Movie cards I’d run wild hunt whispering hillock or Daegon...those were the days played all day everyday. Crushed me once all hard work was gone mastering the monster deck and unlocking all cards in there graphic version... big hurt I am 🙃

I just started playing, not sure how I ended up maining a monster deck but, I feel like you could’ve won your first match easier and wouldn’t predatory dive have been a better choice at 32:30 ? Never tried it myself but would it eat two 5 value cards from your opponent ? 🤔

@@omaraldaud5897 you can craft cards in the deck builder using scraps from recycling cards you don't want. If you watch my Gwent resources guide it shows you how that works. :)

I can only use Carapace and the similar 3 charge Northern Realm power all at once (I activate the power, then have to use all 3 charges) not one charge at a time in various rounds. Am I missing something?

What is with wild hunter rider sometimes when I set it will spawn his copy and some time will not that my first card to set it or second(first time is necker or larva)...?
You need to have Dominance for it to trigger. This means that you need to have the unit with the most points on your side of the board. If your opponent has a bigger unit it won't trigger. If you both have the same biggest it will.

Are you suppose to get starter decks for each faction after the tutorial? I got my buddy to play and he has no starter decks once so ever, he ended up having to skip the tutorial due to a keyboard issue but after I finished I have a starter deck already built for each faction...
I've had that bug before and they appeared when I restarted

I prefer the much cleaner look of Gwent's presentation within The Witcher 3. I wish they used the same look for the standalone , this can be too busy and distracting imo.

Can anyone tell me how to remove tactical advantage from my deck? I' trying to build the one you recommended but i cant seem to get rid of the tactical advantage card.
You don't take it out. Just click the stategem you want to replace it with and it will swap them.
@@Jaggerous Thanks for the quick reply! I have my deck exactly like yours but underneath the fruits of ysgith i have the tactical advantage. I have no stratagems as i only just started the game. I have 14 provisions instead of 13 like yours and cant for the life of me understand how to remove this. Sorry for noob questions.
@@nogamenolife705 You have to have a stratagem in your deck. It's something you get for free if you're going first. It's not like a card you would remove. I think I made this video before you could change your stratagem which is why my deck doesn't have it and yours does. In the past the only available stratagem was tactical advantage which is why it doesn't show in the deck builder.
